​@@43bobbyg I somewhat disagree. It has primarily been the networks and channels pushing for higher fees, and providers are stuck agreeing. Cable companies were monopolistic but had that as their one weakness and downfall. Today, there are at least a half a dozen paid methods to get cable channels. These blackouts might be slightly more effective in some ways these days but ultimately erode the entire concept of linear live television as a relevant service. If a favoured channel blacks out, customers are much more likely to cancel their month-to-month subscription in favour of one offering a free trial. The world is moving on, and few care about these petty squabbles. Disney+ exists and devalues the old network of cable channels. DirectV should not accept an inflated price for this reason alone, even if this means walking away from Disney.

These days, there is substantial competition, which gives all a weaker hand and a slight advantage. Disney+ exists and devalues the old network of cable channels, whilst any blackout just inspires customers to give up or try another provider with a free trial. Blackouts are dwindling in effectiveness and are no longer a tactic with exclusivity on its side. If DirectV forgoes Disney, that could certainly be as much of a Disney loss as it is a DirectV loss, and if the subscriber base for Disney is just small enough to justify cutting it, DirectV absolutely will.

@@susieinthecountry4434 funny thing was it wasn’t even like letting anyone know. They IMMEDIATELY put up a screen that said ESPN IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON DIRECTV. It’s like when a stream gets taken down on KZbin in the middle. I didn’t see a single message sbout it being removed on Saturday but those messages were all over ESPN today on the top, bottom and in the middle of the screen. They also would all of a sudden put up advertisements warning people. Some warning. Yeah let’s blindside people today. Not gonna help their case with Disney.

I was a direct tv customer for over 10 years, not a long time compared to others, and chose streaming because I wanted to watch other channels than those free and didn't want to pay the ever increasing fees. Probably streaming will go up as well. Then I will think the whole thing again

@@wm7312 I choose DirecTV Stream because I despise the need to switch apps to see something else. All of the content I want to watch has to be in one place. Actually I HATE what streaming has done to cable networks. If you want first run programming on a WBD or A&E channels, you have to get Max or A&E+. Everything that they show on their cable channels are reruns from streaming. You have to wait a year to see some WBD content on the cable channels. BBC America has almost NO BBC content. It is just American movies and reruns. The content providers are now seeing the result of their greed. They are now doing $5 and $10 increases on the streaming services and people are canceling their service. Cable companies are tired of content providers holding them hostage for increased payments and the cable companies are saying you are not worth the money you want. Most of the large content providers need to go bankrupt and learn greed does not pay. And I do not want the free program on Roku or other free providers as the quality reflects the price.

When you pay a sports figure, a 1 year extension of $62.6 million, prices will continue to climb. Something has to be done about the exorbitant wages that these players are getting. Nobody is worth that much, period.

Oh, and let's not forget as a U.S. citizen/tax payer, you're paying for these NFL owner's stadiums, not Patrick Mahomes' salary.. " The NFL was already called out for over charging their customers for their Direct Ticket service. FYI if you attempt to watch Live US Open via the Trio Bundle that Disney ADVERTISES be informed you will NOT get to watch the current games being played...they are showing Courts 17, 11, etc as being Live but there are NO GAMES being played on those courts this late in the tournament...IT'S A HUGE LIE !!

The problem with people on Direct TV Satellite is that there is a contract & it is not easy to switch. Thankfully there is usually not a contract with streaming services. It is easy to switch. Sling TV Orange might be an option.

Generally, with cable/sat providers you only have a contract for the first year or 2 of service, after which you can go month to month, so what you're saying generally only applies to new customers. Of course, as with any service, when you go month to month the price can go up at any time, unlike a contract, unless the contract specifically states they can raise the price at any time, but who would sign a contract like that? The whole point of a contract is price control.

In the last 2 Years I believe both Dish Network and Spectrum have had issues with Disney/ESPN. I'm not sure if both had blackouts or resolved in time so it doesn't matter where the consumer goes, if they have Disney/ESPN Channels they just need to know they might lose them. I really think Saturday will upset a lot of people if still blacked out. Top Rank Teams will be on ESPN and SEC Network this Saturday.

Direct TV is eventually in the dustbin of history!! They can rename their operations as streaming and no more Dish. But, they still will be history. The writing is on the wall. Just like, AT&T Uverse cable. 1) Direct TV is too expensive. 2) Direct TV has lost too many customers. 3) Direct TV is passe. 4) Streaming TV service is the wave of the future. 5) streaming services means portability. That's the biggest reason on why everyone is going to streaming services. I can take my Roku to hotel and watch all my streaming services at a hotel. I no longer need to watch their pre-selected TV shows or channels. I can watch KZbinTV on my phone wherever I'm at on road as a passenger. Almost all cell phone plans are unlimited data. Portability is the wave of the future.

I will bet that is an ABC network station. The ABC station in my market is owned by Cox but they are showing an ESPN on ABC college football game which is probably why it is blacked out.

Sinclair probably owns the local franchise rights for ABC over-the-air broadcasts in your area. If you have an antenna hooked up to your TV try switching to that and see if the local ABC station is still broadcasting.

"Number 1 in entertainment" that is a joke. What Disney wants is to have all their channels as additions to their Disney+ streaming package so they can control that content. "If you want it you pay US directly". That's the way it seems to be going with all these other "streaming" services such as Peacock. The ABC network used to be the best at sports broadcasting, but since Disney bought it, they have refused to carry anything that might interfere with their other outlets such as they have stopped bidding for the Olympics and Nascar since it would interfere with people going to their theme parks during that same time.

I've been a DTV customer since the 90's and NY Jets fan. They're scheduled for MNF on 9/9. I will call DTV today to inform them that I'm dumping them if they are still blacked out for that game. And this comes from an avid Disney hater. I hate everything about them since they've gone ultra-Woke.

Any game in an NFL team’s market that is being broadcast by a pay only TV service is also always simulcast by the NFL over a local (usually Independent) OTA channel in the team’s market. Therefore local fans have access to the game the same way they watch their team every Sunday on either CBS, FOX or NBC regardless if they have satellite, cable or digital access. At least that’s the way it works in the Carolinas when the Panthers are not on an OTA channel. Now if you live in say Seattle and are a Jets fan you are SOL I guess unless you invest in a subscription to ESPN+. Possibly a subscription to NFL+ might get you access to a MNF game also.

Lives sports are the main thing keeping pay TV alive.. Most people like some sport or anther and more and more sports are played on pay TV channels. If people can live with seeing their team a couple of times a year when they play on over the air TV, pay TV is not worth it, especially if you live near a city of any size at all.. Cable doesn't even offer every local channel anymore, meaning you still need an antenna to get all the things available locally.. In my area we get about 70 channels over the air and, other than the main networks, cable offers less than ten of them.. Getting clear reception for local TV channels was the main reason cable was popular in the beginning.
