Dirt Daily episodes really show me how chaotic Fred's mind must be at times. I love it, this was also a great video showcasing what is and is not needed on a trip, especially one like UA.

This is exactly how I started a business called, JeepSkool. All us old timers dumped our tool bags out on the table and explained why we carry what we carry whilst off-roading. Got us on the '09 UA tour! Thanks for all you do, Mr Fred. Much appreciated! 🤟😎🤘

You spent all that time wrapping your self-fusing Rescue Tape back up, but didn't talk about it! That stuff is amazing! Hell, I've repaired a PS hose with it and it held so long as you didn't hit the stops with it. Also: I always try to perform routine trail fix type things (swapping an axle shaft, accessory belt, etc) with the tools in the Jeep to find out what I'm missing. My 1/2" impact (Makita eyesore teal for me) always has my front axle shaft socket on it. Easy storage that way.

I find these video so helpful and calm inducing. I am a bit of an overpacker/overanalyzer but also a bit disorganized. Its in my blood from what I do. I love seeing people who pack like I do.

you should add the weight of your gear. I'd love to compare.
@Enter-a-name55 Жыл бұрын
@MrJoshItIs That is one thing that made me rethink my tool kit. Weight. It wasn't a real concern when I was driving full size trucks with V8s. Lots of power, lots of space. Then I got into Suzuki years back. Everything is a minimum, except for the fun. Get rid of all the unnecessary stuff. Save the weight and the space.

I use to be an over packer. Now its the exact opposite. I do have my electrical kit, much like Freds'. And that can go into any vehicle I'm driving. My tool kits will vary for each vehicle. Gone are the days of taking half my toolbox. For my Suzuki, you can pretty much build the entire truck with 4 different wrenches/ sockets. I will sit down with each truck I buy or build and make a tool kit for it. Ive been a professional mechanic for more than 30 years. Its not too difficult to figure out what is a necessity and what isn't. And you are never alone on the trails anyway. And if you do need that one thing you forgot to pack, there is a very good chance someone has what you need.

Not for wheeling, but I bring a lot of this for traveling with camper. I use a storage container designed for wrapping paper for a toolbox. It fits under rear seat of truck.

I'm in the process of building my first full size wheeling rig. I found an old military footlocker and filled it with everything you might need from sockets to wrenches, screwdrivers to anything electrical to pry bars and a small propane torch, all bought from Harbour freight for about 1000 dollars only downside is its all there in 1 box and it weighs a ton

I drive a roadtrain here in Australia. My toolbox is massive. & bloody heavy! I wish I could get a tool set made up of hard plastic cases just like the one for your impact sockets. One for screw drivers, one for ring spanners, one forsockets, etc etc. I dont like rummaging around in bags to find that one tool

I would say an old school hand pump would be nice to carry, it may take some time but you could still get air in a tire.
@PROXIMO22 Жыл бұрын
i don't carry all the sizes of combination wrenches in twos. many of the metrics cross over as you all know. good weight savings cause it all adds up. 5/16 = 8mm, 1/2=13mm, 9/16=14mm, 3/4=19mm. our core group splits the burden of weigh too, we don't need five hi-lifts, hahaha! or five complete socket sets.i carry minimal tools but have the premier power welder and york air. we worked a system out years ago so we don't load up on redundancy between us. we all have extra 10mm stashed here and there :) thank you for all the great videos over the years!!!

I have a small mechanics tool set in my truck. I think its like 200 piece kit, that covers all the basics. Then I have a bag of truck specific tools (torx bits, specialty tools, etc) then I have a small bag of spares of things that I know have broken from previous trail runs.

Reminds me of my S10 Blazer 4x4 2 door, it has tools piled in there, nuts and bolts a metal coffee can with old bolts, nuts, washers... I have 3 different jacks, all kinds of stuff. Yeah, all kinds of stuff and I don't even off road these days. But I live in Wyoming so off road is relative, plus close by. I have a couple of sets of plug kits. I also have a logging chain, it will break your vehicle, but I have owned it for decades...

Also I wush Motor trend would get rid of some of the dumb ass shows they are showing and bring back Dirt Everyday. Just saying.
