@aidangillett53964 жыл бұрын
Even ignoring the aesthetics, KTM's and Bergs are just much, much better bikes to tune, work on and maintain. It's blatantly obvious that KTM's were designed with some sensible engineering decisions vs the Japanese bikes that focus more on finding the exact right fastener for every single bolt hole = 423489107465981623498173 different bolts and a hell of a lot more time to do anything with them Pulling anything out of a KTM is very easy to do, and its such a pleasure to work on. PDS shocks come out in 2 bolts, thats it. You don't have to strip half the damn bike off the frame to get it out. Parts are vastly interchangeable across the board, for instance the exact same rims/hubs/bearings/spacers are used for the entire full size lineup from 125 to 500 (and even many of the adventure bikes) across years from ~2003 to 2017 I believe (with only small differences before and after that, which you can use adapters), because why the hell change it every couple years and every model like the japs do? Just engineer it PROPERLY once, and then use it over and over again. Makes parts super easy to find and very cheap 2nd hand Almost all fasteners where reasonable are the same size meaning you only need a very small toolkit to work on the entire bike etc

Good breakdown. On a side note for the shorter riders, such as myself, the linkage makes the bike sit quite a bit lower than the PDS so that is huge for me. I put the short seat on it and didn't touch anything else. A few of my previous KTM's I have had lowered due to my height and injuries and the suspension was never right. I currently have a 2017 Husky TX300 with about 210 hours on it, it's basically the same as the 300xc save a few small things. I am loving the air fork, it's also the first fork I haven't had to valve for my lighter weight. I run it at 123-127 psi. 123 for slow speed technical and 127 for desert and more open riding. Almost everyone I ride with has the XCW 6 Days or "regular" XCW and it's too tall for me when we swap bikes. The gearing is noticeably different and less gap which I prefer. I am generally in 3rd when XCW's are in 2. I am 5'9" and under 150 lbs.

PS Those on an XCW with RK head and/or map can also pull 3rd instead of 2nd in the same terrain.

Nice video! I agree about the trans. My preference is also the XC trans, 1st is actually a little low on the "W" even in gnarly stuff, making it easier to get on the pipe and spin when you wanna grunt it. The 300 has so much grunt that it pulls the slightly taller XC 1st gear just fine in the gnar. An owner can always gear the XC down a little if 1st is too tall also. These 300s are great bikes either way - they are favorite I have ever owned. Selling my '13 TE 300 (XC-W) and just bought and '18 XC. The new e-start and counter balancer are awesome! :)

Not knowing a ton about dirtbikes when I was looking for my first one I didn’t know too much about 2 strokes and thought they were more about being on the pipe and riding balls to the wall. I’ve learned a lot about dirt bikes in general and have seen how versatile 2 strokes really are. I'm from the UK I've never seen that linkage on the swingarm ever
@astromann74495 жыл бұрын
Linkage works better for fast guys in racing - its less prone to packing and kicking in faster trail whoops. Linkage makes the shock handle wider variety of conditions without revalving it. This was more obvious in the older KTM's. Fast guys with a PDS (no link) often have to re-valve for their preferred area (which is why it sucks). Give me a XC with softer valving and lighting. Or a XCW with linkage. Not fast ? .......then it wont really matter as much.

Aren't all EXC's street legal? International or not? So that would be the difference in the two and why KTM uses both names when they really are the same exact bike other than that street plate.
@ktmers6 жыл бұрын
In the U.S. EXC's a four stroke street legal bikes. In Europe , Australia and other places EXC's are 2 stroke enduro bikes equal to the U.S. XCW. Over there the EXC (U.S. XCW's) come with blinkers, horn and other street gear. There are no XC's in Europe, Australia etc. etc.
@SkinnySkinch6 жыл бұрын
understood thanks man! I think the only reason we only get 4 stroke EXCs is bc those are the only bikes that pass the emissions standards in the US particularly California where a large portion of bike sales in the US are from what I understand. If the 2 strokes could pass our emissions I think we'd also have the 2 stroke street legal models. I do know of a couple guys getting lucky with their XCW's and getting them plated here in Virginia. There are other states that make it easy too.

@SkinnySkinch6 жыл бұрын
gotcha makes sense. I wish we got the 2 strokes street legal capable. You basically have to TRICK our DMV into thinking the bike is an actual MOTORCYCLE and not an off road use only dirt bike in order to get a street legal plate for it. then you would of course have to add the mirrors and turn signals in some states. Some states here allow hand signals only and turn signals aren't required to have on the bike in order to be street legal, only 1 mirror is required. weird. I would LOVE to ride NZ one day. I lived in Brisbane for about 6 months and met a bunch of kiwis and all they talked about was how great the riding is over in NZ

Id say that the xc is really for specific racing.
