The music/electronics store that this scene started in belonged to my wife's brothers wife and family, they had the store shut down and were using an actor of their own to play a salesman but after several takes where the "professional actor" was making making mistake after mistake they turned to the head salesperson for the store ("Ebers Electronics") and asked if he thought he could show the actor what they were asking for but after he did it the director said to use him instead, that he was doing exactly what they were wanting and did the scene in a single take.

Another time he had a rope around the car. Turns out his drivers door actually fell off in a parking lot. It’s one thing to be assigned to drive that car at work. It’s another matter to actually buy one with your own money. Now maybe yours had its doors attached better. But the door falling off? There’s no QC excuse for that

I believe RCCA magazine did an article about the car and the movie in 1988. They modified a few RC10s and used a 1963 Parma body. The technical advisor and 'stunt driver' was a member of Team Associated. The legendary, Jammin' Jay Harris.

I remember when the trailer for this film came out . The rc community was jumping for joy . This scene alone was like their Star Wars. Definitely recognize the Corvette Stingray body . The RC10 is a Epic Old school TEAM ASSOCIATE buggy! I think they did a RE-RE but im not 100% on that as Im a TAMIYA fan Boy from the 80ś. It was actually and electric car and they added the nitro car audio. When the radios get crossed up the fact the car goes back and forth is a dead giveaway that it’s electric.

Good stunt work before the days of computers and all this phony cartoon violence in movies now. I had a 1986 Olds Regency like the one Clint is driving they were one tough car. 3.8 V6 had tons of power and got great gas mileage. GM had great suspensions in these as well you can see very little body lean when going fast around those corners. It also had a very smooth ride and the body was well built and solid.
