@eelplant I can't agree with this enough! My 16 yr old nephew is also on the low end of the spectrum. He is very texture sensitive, with clothes and food. It's genetic in my family. My mom and aunt have them really bad and so do all 3 of my sisters and me! I was just looking at my baby photos the other day and I had puffy bags as a child! No matter if I cried or not. Don't even go there how bad I look after I cry! You would think I got punched in the eyes! Allergies also make them worse. I use a face roller and Guasha, eye patches, cold washcloth, etc. Nothing really helps in a noticeable sense. It's VERY frustrating and constantly affects my self-esteem in a negative way.

I had that on my elbows and pits, and tried acids, even an expensive cream from a cosmetic doc without success. Turns out it was related to my blood sugar rising. I went on the Daniel fast to help kick my sugar habit. The unexpected side effect is that after a few months, my elbows and pits surprisingly went to normal. Wasn’t using any acids, creams then. So it was definitely a blood sugar warning sign for me.

A lot of people don't like hearing this but the proper "treatment" for most AN is changing your diet to zero/low-carb or a keto/carnivore diet, potentially along with fasting or intermittent fasting to actually address the metabolic disease that is the chief cause for most of these lesions in the first place. Additionally, lifestyle changes that involve being more active and exercising if possible. Using topicals is only a cosmetic solution, and if one is at a point where they are developing these lesions, they have a lot more to worry about than just their skin looking pigmented. If no changes are made the likely course is that the lesions will continue to emerge and you will be dependent on products to control the cosmetic aspect of the condition for life. If you don't make the lifestyle/diet changes, it is just putting a bandage over lifelong problems that are a strong indicator for eventual diabetes, cvd, dementia etc.

The dermatologists I have visted have approached this subject by just dismissing my concerns with "wash your neck properly" or "learn to take a bath" and this has caused so much internal shame for me. Thank you so much for this Dr. Idriss, the clarity with which you have approached this subject, its such a pleasant surprise to see derms with the right attitude towards skincare. 🥂

@aadi7898aadi2 ай бұрын
no, hydroquinone is a treatment for hyperpigmentation and melasma where your melanocytes produce more melanin (brown pigment) but here in this case the problem is not melanin but over production of skin cells or dead skin which is generally cured by increasing the cell turnover of skin ie. exfoliating. *best options* :- Lactic/Glycolic Acid // Retinoids // Urea. hope that helps 🩷

I do have a hair question. I am a menopausal woman who has experienced some hair thinning at the front hairline. I am on 1.25 mg oral minoxidil and 5 mg finistride since June. Have also gone for PRP treatments. I think it's helping but I am getting facial hair growth too. So it's a never ending spiral now with dermaplaning and laser hair removal. Do you think I should ask my dermatologist to adjust the prescription? Also do you think the Nutrafol will help with the hairline growth. It's the only area where there is a problem. Thank you! 🥰
@anniesimone2 ай бұрын
I am no expert, but also in menopause and with thinning at the front hairline. I am on no medication for it though, and have the increased facial hair growth too, so I think it's more of a change in hormones rather than yr meds. If you use topical tretinoin, it can also make the hair grow. I take an eyebrow (or similar) razor and take it off that way. Works fine if cleaning thoroughly before and after and then moisturizer on. Don't get harsh or stubbly, just super smooth.

I lost almost all of my waist length curly hair because of covid. I always had great hair (thank You, God). Being almost bald was awful. The only product that I applied constantly to my scalp, that worked, was a non-alcohol based hemp oil. I still use it daily and my hair is almost fully back to normal. For the reasons you mentioned I didn't want to use a product that would make hair grow on my face. The topical hemp oil solved it all. I'm 64 years young, if that helps. Even menopause did not cause my hair to change, but covid did. The family owned company I get my hemp oil from is The Farmacy in Poplarville, Mississippi. I was fortunate to see them set up at a local farmer's market one day, which is how I found out about it making hair grow. I keep my scalp and hair coated with the hemp whenever I am at home. I hope that helps. ❤
@anniesimone2 ай бұрын
@@peshahgalen2768 Not to dismiss the oil you use, but your hair would have grown back anyway. When you lose hair from a heavy infection, especially with fever, it's temporary and completely different from when losing it due to hormones. When the latter, the hair sacs regress (from not getting fed by hormones, like they used to )

I can't comment for the rest but retinols during pregnancy are not recommended. Anything with vitamin A in while pregnant is a big no because it can cause complications with the foetus (or worse if a high enough dose). Post pregnancy should be fine as long as it can't be accidently transferred to baby (e.g. I don't put myself cheek to cheeky with my babies after I've used a retinol before bed and always wash my hands).

HI there Dr. Idriss Just wondering if you've done any videos on lip care. I've been picking my lips since my teenage years due to stress and anxiety and it has got to the stage where the skin just peels off when wet whilst brushing my teeth and rinsing my mouth. Can you suggest any treatments or interventions please? Years ago I Saw a dermatologist and he prescribed steroidal creams which I didn't get anywhere with because of the aforementioned peeling of the skin whilst wet. I suppose layers and layers of skin have peeled off over the years so I'm wondering whether I should visit a specialist skin clinic with this issue. Do you reckon the plasma treatment for hair and scalps could work for the lips dunno just curious. Anyway your advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated . Many thanks and best regards PS. I know that this has nothing to do with this particular video but as it was the most recent one I thought I might leave it here. Thanks for your videos, I'm a newbie and really appreciate the content. Peace
