The part isn't painted . . . until the rattle can is empty.

You probably know this, but breaking the edges of your part will give a better result for corrosion resistance, as the surface tension makes the paint avoid the sharp edges. I worked in a shipyard back in the mid -90s and the "finish before paint" spec dictated a radius of 2 mm or more. But then again, no parts of the hull had a plate thickness of less than 8 mm, so a 2 mm radius wasn't limited by plate thickness. I'm not a painter obviously, I just remember those specs.

That tough black is a really good way to build the thickness of a worn part. Like that bracket started out at about 1.5mm thick. After it was painted it's now about 10mm thick. I'm definitely going to use it from now on....

If you're in a hurry, and your part has paint on it as well as rust, you can use a DC welder at 20A or so. The liquid gets a bit toasty, but it literally blows the paint and rust off. That simoniz stuff is fucking awful. Goes on like you're spraying diarrhea through a straw, and is about as tough as the Del's Angels.

User error. What you want to do is apply a light "tack coat" and then let it "flash off" for 15 minutes. Then follow up with a heavy coat so that it "flows out". Place it on some plush fabric and use a small electric bathroom heater to bake it at approximately 20 degrees celsius for 2-3 days. You then have a ripple smooth final finish. Hope this helps you in the future. All the best, Gunter.
