I bought a zzr1100 with a engine like this one good old number 3 said hello to big wide world, after replacing crank pistons cases and barrel’s and cleaning out all other components that I was reusing, one small slither of swarf remained somewhere, this slither then found it’s way to the oil feed pipe for the box and caused the oil spray to then miss the shift fork and gears, then causing the box to shat itself 2000 miles after rebuilding the engine. Since this I will never bother to repair an engine that has had a main component failure resulting in any swarf contamination. Just replace the whole thing it works out cheaper in the long run. 👍

I once learnt the hard way that you should compression test engines that you are unsure of the there condition before you disassemble them . I learnt that valves can be bent so slightly that you cannot notice them but enough to cause problems obviously there is also proper ways to measure stuff but when you're young and don't have access to all the right tools it can be hard .

Prior to hands on experience the guy needs to understand the engineering side of things. How something is designed, Manufacturing process, stress relieving techniques. After that he can start with physical work like how you described towards the end. He also needs to understand how to use a workshop manual. I saw the comments on his original video the number of positive comments he has received over this "turning crap into more crap" is just unbelievable. People seems to believe he has done something truly unique when in reality all he has done is just weld broken pieces together without understand what that casing was designed, made to withstand and the life of it. It's just ridiculous.

54:58 All of the impurities have come to the surface so it's fine? Nah. He needs to dig those welds out with a carbide burr and go over them again. The first pass is really more of a preparation pass, creating the transition from the cast material to the billet flat bar. All of that shit on the surface is telling you that the weld pool wasn't very stable and all of your crystals maybe weren't the best. Looks almost decent but he stopped before he was finished. I'm also worried about his root, he had room to cut further back in the casing and the gap doesn't look enough for good penetration.

Some of these youngsters talk like they know what they are doing but don't have much clue in reality. Unfortunately it does influence others to do the same and think it's the correct way. My lad is an apprentice mechanic and totally into modding his cars. He is pretty handy but needs to be kept an eye on.....his mates who are into modding their cars absolutely terrify me. They do engine swaps and bodge together engine mounts with blocks of wood because they can't fabricate or machine stuff. The have ECUs hanging out the dash or sitting in the footwell with twisted and taped wires. They have got most of their inspiration from KZbin and bookface nut rounders .

Him not having tables has nothing to do with him being American and us being, "Dirt f**king cheap". It's most likely because that garage is small and he lives with his parents. Aside from that his biggest mistake was buying that POS in the first place. You can already see from the big hole in the cylinder head that it's gone. I don't know what he thought he could salvage except maybe a few bolts. The conditions that caused that hole would have already damaged everything from the cylinders to the gears anyway. Even if a part like a gear looks fine it will likely be brittle from overheating and isn't worth reusing.
