You know what's better than a 10 min delbollox vid is an hour long educational reaming from Matt. Just watching this clowns approach with everything reminds me of one of your first videos in the new house, it's a perfect analogy drawing a normal straight line on a white board and comparing it to the humble masters way of drawing a straight line complete with head movements.

The fact that the first thing he does is put the choke assembly back on the bike. Confining himself to that tiny space puts him in a category all his own. Then using the words “The Build” to describe what he does to motorcycles is just hilarious! Thanks again Matt

I'm guessing that the weight of the brass knob , coupled with the Harley vibrations , will break the threaded bit off the end of the cable .
@potaiter80262 жыл бұрын
Aye - the inertia of the brass knob will indeed cause fatigue stress on the shaft (that Delboy completely mullered... ffs) and it will snap off, that's why the original part is lightweight (plastic). If this hunk of garbage ever gets on the road, that ounce or so of brass turns into a lethal projectile when it comes off.

FYI, I did some nickel plate last night, turned out really good for a first time doing this. Made nickel acetate (and probably chloride) with cleaning vinegar (6%) and non-iodine salt. Surface finish before plating is very much key to a shiny result. Current density is also important, when I cranked up the current I got a much more dull finish. It cleaned up with a post plate polish, but more work than a lower current (longer time) similar part. You probably know this already, but thought I would mention it anyway. Source of nickel was strips made for welding battery packs. This is slightly toxic, but less than electroless nickel. Apparently zinc is a very similar process for those that want a clear "white" zinc plate, the gold requires an additive.

If you blow you're swarf/chips, they end up jammed between your tool's machine faces - better to brush or vacuum. Not that Del's lathe is going to last much longer when he discovers the feed lever

"If you blow you're swarf/chips, they end up jammed between your tool's machine faces" - between what faces?
@potaiter80262 жыл бұрын
@@dirtygarageguy Wherever you have a hardened, precision ground face that slides against another of the same - for example, the saddle runs on the bed. Using compressed air forces small bits of material and dirt between those two faces. Then when you operate the machine, that contamination that you forced in there galls the faces. This causes wear. Sooner or later, your machine loses accuracy. Other areas are tool slide and top slide. My old man has been a machinist his whole life. he had an old Logan lathe in the garage and taught me how to use it. Sure, machinists use compressed air to clean clean up their machines. maybe their employer doesn't want them to waste time doing it properly or they dont know better. If it's your own machine, and you want it to last, use a soft brush or a vacuum :)

This is why Derek Derek, you and me do what we do it for. It's how we all pay the bills, and as the saying goes, if you don't like it, don't watch. One day this guy is going to discover the carriage feed lever and run that tool post into the chuck.
