This is your reminder that disabilities often include fluctuating support needs! Sometimes you might need help and other times you don’t, and that doesn’t mean you’re “not actually disabled”

Today I learned from my therapist (who also is autistic and has hyper-mobility) that THE REASON I ALWAYS TWIST MY ANKLE IS FROM HYPER-MOBILITY

I have the same issue, I have learnt to be a lot more mindful of how I walk/run and have greatly decreased how often I twist my ankle

2:03 I’ve had a similar experience. I am physically and mentally disabled in multiple ways, although not always visible. I was verbally assaulted for sitting on the train because people didn’t believe I was “actually disabled”, and therefore should have given up my seat. Leave disabled people alone, even if you can’t see their disabilities.

My friend has told me utter horror stories about their wheelchair use, people are really presumptuous about other people needing help, it's ridiculous

Please get yourself one. It is the least you can do for yourself, and if nothing else other disabled people will recognize it and know that you are one of us. If you have the money to do so, it is something you should do.

What is NES? /gen. I also have a lot of disabling stuff lol 💀 (Autism, ADHD, Anxiety, EDS, hEDS, OSDD) and oh my god if people could understand, hey I can’t always stand do to my POTS, or I can’t always walk do to by EDS, even if I am not wearing a knee brace that day?!? That’d be great 😭

I'm only diagnosed with autism (though I probably have more) and I still wear my sunflower lanyard. It doesn't matter how disabled you are, if you have an invisible disability you are allowed to wear a sunflower lanyard. Sunflower lanyards are great for bringing small things that help you out like communication cards if you struggle to speak, fidget/stim toys, noise-cancelling earbuds, and anything else you might wanna have on it :]

Definitely get yourself one! At first I was worried to wear mine but I found that decorating it with cute disability pins and some of my favourite things helps a lot, I also added a few small fidgets like a bat pop it, mini slug, and something that feels nice to hold when stressed. Adding communication cards or earplugs to it can also be a really great help but I don’t have these so I haven’t

You can buy one here: hdsunflower.com/uk/shop/lanyard-packs.html (UK) hdsunflower.com/us/shop/lanyard-packs.html (US) If you are living in another country, you can change the country in the top right corner. Though you may be able to get one for free! In the UK, lots of businesses will give them out for free such as supermarkets (I know Tesco does) and airports. I don't know the situation in other countries, but I'm sure there will be some places offering them for free.

wondering if anyone with EDS has joint weakness but in this specific way that i don't feel like retyping because i'm typing this part before the second half of the comment, because for me my hips feel very weak sometimes and though i feel unstable i actually can walk just fine? this usually happens after walking a lot or if i really feel like torturing myself, running a lot.

That one with the guy who has LITERAL CANCER getting that note on his car was just sad. Should really make anybody think thrice before doing that shit. Like congrats dude you bullied a cancer patient do you feel accomplished? Jesus. Saw some people with end-stage cancer while I worked in a nursing home. Fuck. Cancer. Also that last one was actually useful because I've always sort of been trained by places I've worked to "get on their level" when working with someone who's in a wheelchair. Like this is something that people who are supposed to know what they're talking about do teach you. Good to know that some people actively dislike that. Sort of like how a lot of people dislike person-first language yet that's also literally what they (by they I mean colleges, workplaces, etc) teach you as the only polite/respectful way to refer to a disabled person. I wish they would at least MENTION that plenty of disabled people actually dislike that lol.

I really want (or actually need) a sunflower lanyard because I'm autistic, but my mom is insisting I don't. Her argument for it is, "that's ridiculous/useless/too much" or simply "no". I also want noise cancelling headphones, but my parents don't want me to because "then you'll wear them all the time". YEAH! That's the point, I need them to be able to function, but for whatever reason my parents aren't understanding this or they're simply refusing to believe I'm either not lying or looking for attention

So I have childhood Apraxia of speech, and want to find something to identify that I have it to make it easier for someone to know. Side note, hope everyone is doing well or the best you can (eat, drink, take meds etc.) take care of yourselves ❤️🫶
