Every time I get back in to my truck and I no longer worry about my starter about my motor destroying itself as whenever it shut off the oil pressure also drops while there may be residual oil on the internal workings of my motor, I no longer have that problem it took me a whopping point five seconds to disconnect and neatly tuck it away where I don’t even have to look at the connector again. Does not work for my 2022 Ford Maverick. I mean it probably functions right but the problem is this: Big Red "Charging System (new line) Service Soon" message appears repeatedly and never goes away. There might be a Forscan method of hiding that error report but the fact is, it seems Ford caught onto this method and decided to annoy the driver/owner. I have an "eco mode" I'd also like to set as default but can't do that either without some janky solution. I don't know how expensive the "bus insertion" method is (I guess I will look) but that would appear to be the only way. What is "bus insertion"? That's what that not-free device is. It interfaces with the engine/car communications network bus. The OBD2 talks on that bus as does everything else. This "thing in the middle" device just adds a pass-thru in-line device that sends the signal that is the same as the start/stop signal from the button for auto-start-stop. I did get the "ASS disabled" (Auto-Start-Stop) symbol though... just the big red warning as well. Not clean... I would expect if you updated your system control firmware, you might get this message as well.

The two wires that you disconnected is to your BMS which is your battery monitor sensor. I am not sure that's a good thing to do, you may overcharge your battery or under charge it. I have to do some reach on this. How is your battery? I would think just pulling the fuse to that component would be safer for your battery. Did you connect a OBD2 scanner to see what happens. I just ordered one to pull codes. did your battery light come on? Thanks for the video it was good. It got me thinking.
@HowToHeaven2 жыл бұрын
I owned the Ranger for 8 months with NO battery problems. It's a ground sensing wire, I am sure it tells the computer that the charges is sufficient to restart the engine, thereby making it ok to shut the engine off. When you disconnect that wire, the computer won't shut the engine off. It is NOT a charging wire. Read through the comments, this is a safe method of disabling the Auto Start/Stop feature and is easily returned to factory specs! Thanks for watching!
@TheRealist-6667 ай бұрын
@@HowToHeaven The reserach I did said that disconnecting that sensor also disables the entire BMS. BMS is used to monitor the altenator charge for the battery. I want to disable auto stop, but an fearful of also disabling BMS.

I found your video just as I was reaching the depths of despair and I'm deeply grateful! As a side note, the auto start/stop feature is the worst example of corporate overreach and virtue signaling that I have ever seen. It's no different than having someone reach into your car and turn off the ignition when you're at a stop light. Shame on ford for letting the marketing guys take them over the cliff. And shame on the cowardly engineers who didn't push back on management when they first proposed this stupid idea. I would not have purchased a ford had I known of the start/stop feature. On a happier note, I'm subscribing to your channel based on this video alone, and I look forward to your other vids.

Yes it has to be for the model of your vehicle. The "thing in the middle" is inserted into your car's communications network. The messages are often unique to the model of the vehicle. So the start/stop device IDs for different cars and trucks will be different. For example, I have a Ford Maverick. I wouldn't expect the F150 thing to work in my Maverick for this reason. It basically works like >> Push button, the button talks to the network "Hi I'm the ASS button (auto-start-stop) on the Ford Maverick [device ID 12345] and I just disengaged my ASS." This is what the device "remembers." It remembers that it sends a "disengage" or "engage" message to the car communication network bus. There may be a way, using forscan, to make the F150 device work! I recall a video where a guy installed an upgraded temp control device and it didn't work until he went into forscan and changed the device ID for the temp control device. Then the device worked fine. I imagine you could do the same thing by telling your system the ASS button ID is that of the F150 and it too will begin to work. Now, what that device ID is, I don't know. There are F150 owners out there who could probably ID what forscan settings are needed to make that change. But the device is essentially "spoofing the ASS button" or probably directing a specific mode setting (not a toggle) somehow. Alternatively, the seller of the F150 device might also be able to help you reprogram the thing for your model so that it spoofs the device you have.

Another thing is it will save your turbo (ecoboost) the turbo can get hot and shutting down a turbo quickly hot will damage it. Also why we should let our engines warm up before driving in the cold. Sudden temperature changes will damage turbos.
@HowToHeaven2 жыл бұрын
An excellent point!! When the engine shuts down, especially after hard acceleration, the turbo may still be spinning and turning off the engine increases the likely hood that the bearing may not get enough oil, which will wear the turbo bearings quicker. Thanks for watching HowToHeaven

I am taking delivery of a new 2021 Ranger this weekend and knew that I would want this gone, but assumed I'd have to buy one of the OBD2 connectors. Thanks to you, I don't have to! That said, a lot of people are complaining about "government overreach." I'm confused by this as some people want this and it does provide some value (depending on how you drive and where you drive). The "problem" is not the feature, just that Ford did not create a setting to disable it for the situations where there is no (or a negative) value for the owner.

Neat, though you have just disconnected the battery monitor. The vehicles doesn't know the battery state of charge anymore, so it just keeps running the engine to maintain charge. No issue there, but if the battery is losing charge you won't know and the vehicle can't implement battery saver strategy.
@HowToHeaven Жыл бұрын
Yes, but it's a choice you have to make. The charging system will maintain the battery charge as in any car, but the computer can't monitor it, which is why the computer disables the auto stop/start function. I have been told in the comments that it may affect towing although it is simply a matter of reconnecting it whey you tow. The way I looked at it, if you have a battery issue, then it will be apparent and easy to diagnose, whether you reconnect the monitor or not the battery saver strategy isn't going to change that it just prolongs a dead battery condition.

One other question, my neighbor has a '22 Buick Encore GX ... it doesn't have the quick connect, but an extra ground wire with a small bolt on the negative cable ... will that by chance do like your Ranger did?
@elburro7511 ай бұрын
There is another guy on utube that has his son disconnect a wire that is on the driver side in the cab on the left side where there is a block with a bunch of leads and I have a 2019 xlt that I did this a few years ago. Not sure if its the same wire that goes to the switch inside the cab. I wish I had the link to where he tells his son to pull the wire and no more start stop. I heard that if you have one of those fancy Lariats or higher model there might be some issue but thy were either taking that module off completely off the battery or just doing what this guy did. But I dont tow so I dont know if that would effect that option on my xlt. But so far eveything works like it should and its been a few years since I pulled that wire out. The block of wires is on the driver side and I wish that I could remember the color anyway its night ti,e and its cold so im not going outside to look sorry. but see if you can google or search on utube for the guy that had his son pull the wire remember its for Ford F150s...

Mine was a Lariat, I didn't notice anything otherwise, I would have put that information in the video. All I know is that I did it on video and it worked, others who comment say some other effects are possible, however I haven't seen any videos. Sometimes I get trolls, I take them with a grain of salt or less!

I did this in my ‘21 Explorer and it says “charging system service soon”. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ What does it mean?
@HowToHeaven3 жыл бұрын
Just plug it back in, probably won't work for you unless you don't mind that warning light. charging system service soon is Ford's warning for something wrong in your charging system, probably from losing the ground connection (the thing you unplugged). Mod probably won't work for you, thank you Ford!

Yes this works BUT, be advised, this also takes out the REMOTE START feature. IF you don't have it all good, but if you DO and you like your REMOTE START more than you hate start-stop this fix may not be for you. Even though I don't use the remote start very often, this was still a deal breaker. Mine 2017 Fusion SE. Other years, other models, try it, then check to see if remote start still works.

Only the remote start on the APP, not on your Key FOB!

@mixxmastr My remote starter still works after unplugging it.
@mixxmastr11 ай бұрын
but the "start/stop" definitely DID "go away"? all I'm saying is on my 2017 SE the remote start was also gone, no coincidence, because it returned when I plugged back in @@pmaint1

It appears that you have the Lariat trim, so you might have remote start capability. If so, if you remote start your truck on a cold morning and the truck is set to Auto climate, do both your seat heater lights come on with the three bars when you press the brake and hit your Start button? Only my left seat warmer light and bars comes on but not for the right seat even though I can feel that the right seat also warmed up during the remote start. I'm trying to find if this is normal. Even when my wife is sitting in the right seat when I hit the start button while the truck is running due to being started remotely, still on the left seat light and bars turn on. Normal?

Unfortunately, I no longer have that 2020 Ranger Lariat, so I won't be able to help, but I am sure that your local Ford Dealer may be able to help, and if they can't...test drive one and test it yourself! Thanks for watching!

Hi i did this on my 2022 edge and it puts a code in the BCM ,the dealer found it because I complained that the charging message comes on when you start the engine and to cancel it I have to press the ok button on the left steering wheel switch, that would be ok but under warranty they will find codes and could charge you. food for though
@HowToHeaven2 жыл бұрын
Yes, food for thought, however I have no idea how they would prove it didn't just fall off. Thanks for watching

My car is a 2020 explorer. I did disconnect the BMS cable and yes the start/stop function ceased. Reading more about the BMS function I decided it was not wise to leave the cable disconnected. However, after reconnecting the cable I find that the auto start/stop is no longer automatic, I.e., on the screen when I stop, there is an A with a diagonal line through it. And, no engine shut down. What I don’t know is whether the BMS is functioning or not.

I want to do this but I am wondering if disconnecting that wire also sends a low battery signal to the charging system causing the battery to overcharge and fail.

Nope.

There's a feature in the cluster menu to disable that...but it's like the button, it doesn't keep it disabled when you shut off and restart the truck.

I disabled stop/start from menu and it does keep it disabled even after starting and stopping. Just my experience.

That's right it is a battery sensor. I followed your steps and about three days later had several warnings come up on my Ford App. I then had to book it in with a dealer. In short your hack works but it stuffs up the App.
