Poverty is big business. Ask anyone familiar with the inner workings of the NGOs and non profit organizations. Even junk is big business. I work for a thrift store picking up donations, and they would get furnitures for free, roll them into the store's showroom and stick a $300-600 price tag on them. They wouldn't accept anything with a dent or anything that needed cleaning. From truck to showroom. Add their tax break and they were making millions.

If people do NOT have drug or mental problems they are the "low hanging fruit" where it would not take a huge amount of money to get them in simple digs. They could be pretty independent. Perhaps some rides for shopping, medical appts, etc. I can NOT believe we can put a man on the moon but not make a dent in this problem. Honestly, this is why i bust my behind. My husband has HS and was fired because of it. Whenever i see someone homeless it makes me think about him because if he didnt have family and me to support his healthcare he wouldn't be able to afford to care for himself. Because the medication he needs to treat it is thousands of dollars. And being in constant pain makes maintaining a healthy weight harder when you already struggle with it. And when you dont have access to home cooked food, theres no way to control your intake. Its so easy for people to just say oh diet and exercise. Oh get a job. Its all so much more complicated than that for someone who has no support

@pollyannalight6313 HS is basically a condition where your immune system overreacts to the natural bacteria found on your skin. And sweating or having any kind of cut can lead to collections of inflammation and infection under the skin call cysts. Also, the area around swells. Then, eventually, your body pushes it to the surface, causing alot of bleeding and pain. The medicine used to treat it is an injection that you have to take every week to try to get your immune system to calm down

Honestly, most Christian charities hand out help no matter of the person's cooperating with them on saving souls as the idea is to show them the example of Christ's love. Catholic Community Services helps people without anything in return. Even coming to get the items isn't required if they have a volunteer who will drive the help like food etc to the person. SSI is a thing also, and food stamps or EBT cards which also give you cash are a thing. Help is out there but the expense of homing someone on an everyday basis is incredibly high and WILL cause the marginalized to become homeless too. It's unfair to take taxes from an old widow to pay for an addicts irresponsibility.

I’m facing homelessness right now & have a physical disability. I’ve never felt the kind of fear I now live with. I require assistance but have gone without. At least I was in a safe place for a few years. Now, that’s going away. Putting a disabled person on the streets is akin to a death sentence. I don’t know that I’ll be here much longer. I have a sun allergy, mobility issues, strict dietary needs & have seizures. Shelters are terrifying, especially if you’re a woman. Rape is part of the risk. I always told myself if I reached this point, I’d “remove myself from the equation” so that I could at least go with dignity. Social services, Social Security & Medicaid sound good on the surface but without a healthy person advocating for you, neglect is inevitable. Even social workers are limited in ways they’re allowed to help. Mine wasn’t legally allowed to help me find housing.

Like maybe the government _perceives_ migrants as a source of cheap labor that take hard-to-fill jobs, and maybe the government _perceives_ homeless people as too mentally ill or addicted to work. Basically “If we (& the big corporations who bought our loyalty) can’t make money off you right now, you’re on your own.” (of course, nobody in power can be bothered to examine the root cause of _why_ some homeless people have problems that keep them from working.) There are a million reasons why they are in that situation and each one is different. We all could be homeless tomorrow. Sad that this guy has had to go through this what he has, he sure didn't choose this life!! He's a very interesting and intelligent man. I hope he finds a way out of this life and does well for himself again. As footnote: I'm not trying to be rude, from what I've read, unless you make over $25K you don't pay taxes on disability. But he has for sure paid taxes when he was working.

Back in the 1960s and 70s, there were very few homeless .What happened is that in the late 1970s, the government started bringing in refugees, and every year, more and more so too many people, not enough housing, then in the 1990s the big jobs boom in silicone Valley hundreds of new electric companies over knight so hundreds of thousands of more people come in and of course they have families but its in the last 3 years that millions of people have come across the open borders ( and they still coming) the difference is that those people coming are going to hotels and they're getting everything free ,and the American people are suffering unless the government changes America will continue going down

Isn’t a faith based shelter better than sleeping in a tent or being on the street homeless? I’d sit in an hour Bible service in exchange for a safe bed for a night.

Making people work for a place to stay ? Now, how is that bad ? Seems like a lot of these people just have excuses. This dude seems very intelligent. How much is disability every month ?

This isn't fair. I'm disabled also. I need a spinal fusion, which is planned for October. I also have fibromyalgia, sleep apnea, hashimotos on top of depression and severe anxiety. I'm facing being homeless. I only get 700$ a month.

Do, or do NOT. When "WE" fail to "DO", WE cry out that WE CANNOT😊 ALL "WE" NEED TO "DO" is to NOT LET OTHERS "FALL SHORT"❤ The ONLY "REASON" that stops US from supporting THEM, is that "WE" feel DIFFERENT from "THEM". I know a disabled 60 year old woman and her 30 year old mentally challenged daughter (capacity of a 7 year old) that were evicted due to rising rent in Fl, and they now live out of their car because their ssdi is not enough to live on. They are told it’s a three year wait for housing even though they are disabled and vulnerable adults. Good old florida…

Every state is like this. No need to hate on Florida. Pick a state, any state, and their situation would be the same, if not worse.

@@minigirl6839Right. Here in California it's a 10 year wait if the list isn't closed which it usually is.

Poverty is what is expanding the homelessness, or living 3 families in one 2 bedroom, because rent is completely unaffordable, food is very expensive. If you can't work, then you can't " live".

It starts with high taxes, it affects rent and morgages

I don’t get why they constantly have to move. It’s crazy. They just go somewhere else. It’s horrible to move all the time. Why doesn’t the government give them a designated place for tenting so they can stay put? Also crazy to fine homeless people who have very little money to start with.

homelessness is a VERY lucrative business. The design of disability benefits are there with intent to control, create jobs not for but for the rich. Follow the money and your eyes will be set free

but the person receiving needs to give something back. this is not happening with this situation of the homeless. On the other hand, YOU, go out for a few days with no money or supplies and see how it goes. Be forced to move along, no loitering. Where do you go? Whose property do you invade? How to resolve......

You cannot feed the homeless here in ocala Florida you go to jail for it. 30 days . They' give the homeless a jail cell as a shelter who wants a jail cell as shelter the price are not very nice to the homeless here.

Over a year bouncing around things stolen often unable to get credentials mail housing etc. In Florida had to go on bike to another area more affordable. I could and would live a tent life many of our ancestors did. I cannot get ahead paying rent light's etc . As it is ill never own my own land housing etc; unless I do something extream like live a minimalist lifestyle for a season. I've also seen similar faith based programs in Florida. I as a Christian was appalled by what I heard. I worked for one years back we had food distribution program. We asked if people wanted to have prayer or had questions. Two members of the leadership to an individual or couple l. They could decline and we didn't pressure the individual or families. Regular food pantry and produce. The only time we required church service attendence was the fellowship dinner's.

Warren Buffett just made a statement (well recently) that he just paid five billion in taxes for Berkshire Hathaway, and if every other corporation paid their taxes as intended, not a single other citizen would have to. In this community where this intelligent and handsome man is surviving made a decision to dedicate one of their multiple parks to the homeless where they can at least get the ball rolling on some of their issues. How many don’t have an address so they can’t apply for benefits, a job, drivers license etc. It would take far fewer tax dollars to handle the homeless crisis if they tried to help these citizens vs harassing them.
