Poverty is big business. Ask anyone familiar with the inner workings of the NGOs and non profit organizations. Even junk is big business. I work for a thrift store picking up donations, and they would get furnitures for free, roll them into the store's showroom and stick a $300-600 price tag on them. They wouldn't accept anything with a dent or anything that needed cleaning. From truck to showroom. Add their tax break and they were making millions.

Honestly, this is why i bust my behind. My husband has HS and was fired because of it. Whenever i see someone homeless it makes me think about him because if he didnt have family and me to support his healthcare he wouldn't be able to afford to care for himself. Because the medication he needs to treat it is thousands of dollars. And being in constant pain makes maintaining a healthy weight harder when you already struggle with it. And when you dont have access to home cooked food, theres no way to control your intake. Its so easy for people to just say oh diet and exercise. Oh get a job. Its all so much more complicated than that for someone who has no support

@pollyannalight6313 HS is basically a condition where your immune system overreacts to the natural bacteria found on your skin. And sweating or having any kind of cut can lead to collections of inflammation and infection under the skin call cysts. Also, the area around swells. Then, eventually, your body pushes it to the surface, causing alot of bleeding and pain. The medicine used to treat it is an injection that you have to take every week to try to get your immune system to calm down

@@ameenahameed8874not very many do that. Honestly, most Christian charities hand out help no matter of the person's cooperating with them on saving souls as the idea is to show them the example of Christ's love. Catholic Community Services helps people without anything in return. Even coming to get the items isn't required if they have a volunteer who will drive the help like food etc to the person. SSI is a thing also, and food stamps or EBT cards which also give you cash are a thing. Help is out there but the expense of homing someone on an everyday basis is incredibly high and WILL cause the marginalized to become homeless too. It's unfair to take taxes from an old widow to pay for an addicts irresponsibility.

This guy would do very well in a tiny home community. Just a simple place with perhaps a shared "cook house" washup facilities and he'd be set. If people do NOT have drug or mental problems they are the "low hanging fruit" where it would not take a huge amount of money to get them in simple digs. They could be pretty independent. Perhaps some rides for shopping, medical appts, etc. I can NOT believe we can put a man on the moon but not make a dent in this problem. I fear too many people are making money (stealing money) out of the "homeless problem".

Apartment owners, aka corporations, are taking away rights and privileges all the time, while taking away all our surrounding nature. I moved here for the nature and way it was set up. They've killed it off, and our now, basically, cementing everything. They are actually using what looks like fake rocks to landscape. I'm done with this AI world. I’m facing homelessness right now & have a physical disability. I’ve never felt the kind of fear I now live with. I require assistance but have gone without. At least I was in a safe place for a few years. Now, that’s going away. Putting a disabled person on the streets is akin to a death sentence. I don’t know that I’ll be here much longer. I have a sun allergy, mobility issues, strict dietary needs & have seizures. Shelters are terrifying, especially if you’re a woman. Rape is part of the risk. I always told myself if I reached this point, I’d “remove myself from the equation” so that I could at least go with dignity. Social services, Social Security & Medicaid sound good on the surface but without a healthy person advocating for you, neglect is inevitable. Even social workers are limited in ways they’re allowed to help. Mine wasn’t legally allowed to help me find housing.

I wonder if it has to do with _perceived_ contribution to the economy. Like maybe the government _perceives_ migrants as a source of cheap labor that take hard-to-fill jobs, and maybe the government _perceives_ homeless people as too mentally ill or addicted to work. Basically “If we (& the big corporations who bought our loyalty) can’t make money off you right now, you’re on your own.” (of course, nobody in power can be bothered to examine the root cause of _why_ some homeless people have problems that keep them from working.) NOTE: This is *not* how *I* perceive these 2 groups of people.

He told me he had his backpack on the wheelchair handles and fell asleep When he woke up his backpack with his IDs in it had been stolen. So his incurance expired, he couldn't get it renewed without an ID but the hospital ER is required to treat everyone who comes in so he lives in front of the ER so when he needs medical care he is right there.

They are told it’s a three year wait for housing even though they are disabled and vulnerable adults. Good old florida…

Poverty is what is expanding the homelessness, or living 3 families in one 2 bedroom, because rent is completely unaffordable, food is very expensive. If you can't work, then you can't " live".

My husband is disabled and in a wheelchair. I am thankful that our home is paid. Maybe our life is good now. Because we basically were not wanted. He was his family black sheep and I was my mother's. While i was physically and mentally abused by her. He was just not wanted. His parents went to their graves not wanting him. Even though he help them financially. My mother disowned me and went to her grave not wanting me.

That was on them and they have to answer for that once they passed on. You two have each other now, live your lives and forget them. It is absolutely insane that the homeless cannot have the benefit of cooking on bbq grills in the park that is provided by the park. As a little girl growing up in California bbq in the park went hand in hand in the park.. So the grills got removed according to what the homeless community says. I don't like Grants Pass & will never ever visit there.

Why do they not open up a field in every town or city for the homeless. Make designated places for them with services. In the end it would be cheaper. Although this guy can still afford to smoke so he could cut that out and save something.

Why don’t they fix the affordable housing crisis and prevent homelessness in the first place? That’s the question. Opening up a field for people to camp is not a solution. People need housing and support services.

I'm disabled law enforcement. Had my throat cut to less than a centimeter on the job. I get 1000 a month in disability. Anyone know where I can live and eat for that much? Because they say I make too much for food stamps. America doesn't care unless you are working able bodies so you continue to Work for them and you pay taxes in which makes the rich richer. After all all the tax breaks in the last 4 years with Trump with to the 1% rich. They don't even want disabled people living in America. If you don't work they don't want you here even if you became disabled while working.
