The Butterfly Effect- Plant-based Weight Loss

The Butterfly Effect- Plant-based Weight Loss

Жыл бұрын

Catching you up on why I’ve been gone and how it’s going with my hundred day challenge.
My name is Heather and I'm from Portland, Oregon. I am eating a plant-based, whole foods, unprocessed diet, with no sugar, oil, flour or alcohol, to take off weight and regain my life. I once weighed over 436 lbs and have released over 110 lbs eating this way and walking for exercise. I call my channel The Butterfly Effect because I believe that all the small choices you make, over time, add up and have a huge effect on your life. I wanted to show people like me who have 100, 150, 200 or more pounds to take off that it can be done and we can do it together. I am far from perfect and have struggled with compulsive eating and been overweight for all of my life, but there is hope for me and there is hope for you too. What can you do, today, to bring you closer to your goals tomorrow? Please consider giving my videos a thumbs up, commenting and subscribing. I would be incredibly grateful for your support on this journey!

Hi, Heather. For the past few years I suffered from nerve pain and depression resulting from feeling so hopeless. I played around with plant-based and specifically the programs we were in together for years. Frankly, I got bored with the foods and wasn’t addressing my real issues. Since switching to protective diet in August, I’ve lost 40+ lbs and my nerve pain is gone. Energy levels are high and my mood is better too - all thanks to not being in pain, I’m sure. Anyway, I’m not selling anything but I’m happy to talk to you about it if you want to hear more. It’s been super simple for me to incorporate even with a busy job outside of the home again. I truly hope you find what will help you feel better, whether it’s PD or something else. Wishing you all the best!

I'm glad to see that you're back. I'm glad that you're doing well again. I have struggled with excess weight since I had my children. I'm now 74. I had lost 100 lbs. Then I went through a very difficult time & gained back 83 lbs. I'm struggling to stay on the plan. I desperately need a support system & haven't found it.

I have struggled with compulsive eating too and still do at times. One thing that has helped me is to read the book Fast Feast Repeat by Gin Steven’s. The book has has really helped me under stand that I can still eat the things I like but just to do it in a shorter time. I still struggle with eating too much at times but when my eating window is closed, it’s pretty much like a vault. I have opened it a few times but for the most part if I have closed my window I leave it closed until the next scheduled time of eating. I try to close it in the early side in the evening so that I don’t eat too close to bed time and then I try not to open it until around 12ish. When it’s open I try not to snack… my goal is to eat 2 to 3 meals. I wanted to encourage you to check out Gins books. She’s got a few of them. ‘Feast without Fear’ and Delay, Don’t Deny’ is another one. I absolutely loved Fast Feast Repeat. I actually found that book after following another KZbinr named Jackie under her KZbin channel called: ‘Intermittent Fasting Foodie’. I am a believer too and I feel that after I was crying out to God after a day of not eating so well and just being so sick of the constant struggle that he brought to the lady Jackie (intermittent fasting foodie) and the book she was suggesting her subscribers to read. It has made quite a difference in how I eat and I do feel more peace because I don’t give myself the liberty just to eat whenever I want. All the best to you on your health journey ❤

Got through Halloween, gave myself a little treat and moved on! Just found your channel and watched a few videos. Wow what a wild ride. Seeing you at your smallest, (your most popular video) and coming down from 300 lbs, was amazing accomplishment. I recently got into the whole foods plant based lifestyle after watching forks over knives and joel fuhrman and rich roll and others. I have struggled with weight since I was a kid, eating a very high in processed food diet as I was raise by a single working mom. The advocates of this diet basically explain it like it's the ultimate panacea for obesity, and that you can't help but be one of these stick figures eating this way, but the more research I do the more I see it is t always so simple. But let's face it, being on a restrictive diet like WFPB is hard, and one of the things motivating me is weight loss. I'm a 33yo male weighing 300 lbs, and I've lost about 15.pounds in a few weeks following the diet. Watching your videos, I thought I would ask: overall are you glad you made the switch? You've been very open about the health difficulties you've experienced in this channel, and I feel for you, but do you think you overall health is better on the diet? I know I feel much better in myself, I have a lot more energy and I have less aches and pains, but I'm wondering if this is just a temporary effect that fades and in the long run I'll regret transitioning. I also just entered drug and alcohol sobriety, so I'm going through a lot of changes that are scary. I'm happy you are feeling better in the new year. Tha j you for sharing your story with the world. I want to keep following your journey, but don't feel pressure or upload, just want you to be happy. Anyways thank you so much.

lovely to see you back, look forward to updates as often as you can, love to see you even infrequently, would love a closeup of your delightful,furbabies at some stage too please so absolutely wonderful that you have lost 6lbs through all your turmoil I began this 100 challenge with you, was hoping to finally finish my journey to ‘my perfect weight’, then everything everything health wise has fallen apart & derailed my mission. unlike you, my being in pain, being on my own, being unable to exercise, etc etc etc, weight has increased significantly, making me more depressed than ever. last year I was nearly where I wanted/needed to be, & unless I can turn this around I could head back to where I started from. the best I can say is that since starting the challenge, I have managed somehow to not go up any more, but I also have not gone down any, I am trying to stay positive about at least that

Hi Heather- I loved your summation statement-We are wonderfully imperfect. This whole business of life is a series of opportunities to practice whatever we have intended prior to this birth to work on. I feel that all I can do is to practice- not necessarily achieve or to perfect whatever it is that I wish to focus upon. This takes off so much pressure in my mind and to focus on the process and the journey not the desired destination. And those of us, of which I am one of these, loves you unconditionally and are here to hold you in our hearts and souls as we each journey practicing our own processes. So glad you are free of nerve pain now. Also I would like to learn more about the nature of lung tumors (my hubby is having his looked into nodules he has in his lungs and I may have something to. If I’m future posts you can go into more depth on this neuro hormonal connection thingy wingy, I will dearly appreciate it. Luv n hugs. 👍💕🥰🙏🏻😘

I have had a very simular journey that you have had. I have gone carnivore for 90 days after 6 years of being vegan with huge addiction to carbs. I have to say all my aches and pains and depression are so diminished. Its crazy because it goes against everything I have studied for years.I started reading about insulin and what it does to our bodies and systems. I am here to say it is remarkable. I was trying to be a chef AJ and it just didnt work. I have 4 tumors in thyroid that has reduced down to 2. I have lost 38 lbs in these 90 days and am working to heal my severe insulin resistance. I share this for you to just maybe consider. It was hard because I love the plant based life but I just thought about trying it for 90 days. I dont think I will go back. I felt good plant based in begining to but not this good. I am just trying to help so ignore me if it doesnt feel right for you.
@Oldbroad1

I’ve been thinking the same. I’ve never lost weight on whole plant foods. I think it’s too much carbs for me. The McDougal’s, Chef, AJ, Dr. Lyle, all of them are so healthy and persuasive, but they are all thin, too. Maybe if I was thin, I might switch over to whole plant foods. Being 100% carnivore doesn’t make sense to me either, though. Maybe meat and some skinny vegetables and a little fruit, but stay away from the potatoes, bread, rice, starch. It’s just an idea and please forgive me if this is against what you believe. But, I don’t know, at what point do you start looking at results?
@Mymar5

Its all about healing insulin resistance and that takes very low carb and then I believe when the insulin resistance is behaving better you can add some fruits and veggies

Heather, have you thought about doing a Mary's Mini to get yourself back on track? It seems like you do well with plain food and not having to think so much about what you eat. And Dr. MacDougall's videos he does on Chef AJ are very helpful to me with his no nonsense attitude. Same with Dr. Lisle. I have heard both of them say that once someone starts eating this way many of his or her health issues go away. I had chronic heartburn & acid reflux until I started this way of eating.

Thankfully I’m glad you’re back ~ again. I love your haircut & seeing your family in the background. Completely forgot about sugar…and have been eating it. On my side, we were hit very hard by HURRICANE 🌀 IAN (it hit where we live on the Gulf Coast of Florida . Didn’t lose the actual house but it seems we are having to build it all over again from the ground up. It’s not habitual so we are living in a trailer in our driveway. My greatest problem is I don’t fit in the shower , and I’m too embarrassed to tell my own husband. But I only bath fully once a week & just do a sitz bath daily. That’s where you clean where your dirty WHEN you’re dirty. I lost most clothes as well. So it’s an experience. Have had McDonalds, Burger King and other drive through. We lost our kitchen. We DO HAVE A MICROWAVE. This is a different way of living now. And I’m not apparently a fast learner. Miss my pots, pans, Instapot, juicer, casserole dish, glasses, etc. But we are ALIVE! ❤ and after tomorrow (traveling to see my doctor ) I’ll stop the sugar again as well. Thanks again for posting. You are appreciated and loved by many of us out here. We want what’s best for you? Hug. 😊

@@thebutterflyeffect-plant-b3067 Aw, thank you for the personal reply. I feel like I just met a star ⭐️ and now a little star struck 🤩. Went to the doc, said I have cancer probably in my back & sacrum (it returned). Oddly, I’m not perceiving this as I did the first go around. I’m an avid reader , cancer coach & know exactly WHAT caused it & what to do. I was the first person the doctor ever met who cured cancer like mine (stage 4 breast, bone (spine, sacrum, hips & sternum). I just have to climb on board the wagon of no chemicals, organic, processed foods and correct supplements for my body. Not stressing, but noticing and being aware what my body is saying. Does it need rest? Am I anxious? Am I meditating? Stretching? Breathing fresh air? I got this from being UNAWARE of my self…forgetting to truly remember I AM MY BEST FRIEND. I LOVE ❤️ MY BEST FRIEND …AND IM ONE OF A KIND PRECIOUS . I just met a star 🌟 ~ you! Oh my, you made my day! You’re famous and we just rubbed elbow! Bear 🐻 hugs. You’re the best. You ARE. 🌹

I was always the opposite regarding food. I was addicted to having self control and exercising and running from the time I was a child it was running that gave me a high. Then I was in the Air Force and discovered alcohol and coffee.....later I quit the alcohol and kept a serious black coffee addiction. Then the worst thing ever happened and I was injured , became addicted to pain meds and then heroin for 10 years. I was a vegan since I was 17 and pretty much raw and strict but this opiate addiction kicked my butt. There is a demon waiting for everyone......we all fall to a different demon. I'm still struggling with getting off suboxone but food is meaningless to me all my life. I could be happy not eating ...its a bother to me. Ive always hated cooking and feeling full and having to deal with brushing my teeth again ....and washing dishes and waiting to eliminate the food....to me eating is a burden.....I thought it was insane how you never liked to take pain meds! Lol! One shot of Dilaudid in the ER and I was instantly hooked for life ... I always wondered why people who had food addictions didnt just switch their addiction to a drug in order to lose weight because heroin takes away all real focus on food... All you want is the drug I was 80 pounds and 5 ft 4 inches at one point ....and for 3 years only 90 pounds ....even now 4 years clean and im still only 95 pounds because I just cant be bothered to eat....I just eat when I am hungry because food is not a priority or anything that I enjoy for amusement and least of all comfort. I associate food with feeling too full....no matter if it is a fruit or a bag of chips it all is annoying to me to have to eat it. Lol we all are so different .....

Hi Heather. I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. Pain meds work on the type of pain they are effective for. They don't work on every kind of pain. If it's nerve pain well that is a whole other ball game and my heart goes out to you. I'm curious if you have ever had shingles. The nerve pain can come back without the shingles itself and can be frequent and disruptive to your life. I had a patient once who would have this mystery nerve pain and that is what it turned out to be, so thought I would mention it. I think you are doing great. Giving up sugar can be a tough one so bravo to you. Blessings to you. Everyone's journey is different. Baby steps. I hope you feel better.

Have you considered fibromyalgia? I have had since 1995. It was really bad for awhile, but once i went wfpb it calmed down. I get a lot of relief with trigger points. Find the tender point by pressing with fingertips or knuckles near where pain is. If your find a tender pount. Press and hold then work the area some. Usually pain is near muscle attachments, slightly away from joints. Sometimes i get immediate relief, other times i get itvthe next day

May you have continued health and lots of blessings from the Lord. I am so glad that God has taken your sugar craving away. That must be such a huge blessing. I am also a sugar -holic. I am starting fresh again on my next meal. Today I also will get a bit of exercise...starting slow cause it has been a long while for me, but will do something even if it is only 5-10 min. I am having some health issues and right now my husband is sick (emergency room visit Monday), that we had to cancel our trip to see our daughter. We are both bummed about it, but hopefully sometime in the new year we can try again to make the trip. Life happens and gets in the way sometimes, but we should always strive to pick ourselves up. So glad you did too...and I am glad for myself. Hope you can update us every couple weeks at least.

Thanks for reminding me that I still have Halloween candy in my house Lol It is out of sight so I had forgotten. My biggest problem is that I hate to waste anything or throw anything away. That's literally the reason I had steak last week for the first time in a lot of years. My dad recently passed and he had meat in his freezer. I couldn't waste it. That stuff is expensive! I was also vegan at one point, but had to add meat back into my diet due to health issues. I want to be vegan. I am a couple years older than you and found that trying to go through menopause without meat was really difficult. I just eat a little bit. Sometimes I forget to add it to my plant-based menu that I am so used to making and I don't eat it for over a week. I think of it as a natural vitamin. You have to do you, but definitely get your nutrients checked. As a vegan, you could be very low in something and you might need to supplement. I also had that problem. Take care! Glad to see you are ok :)

Heather you and I could be twins with our illnesses. I have been dealing with the nerve pain for 2 years. It has come down to back pain with sciatica having epidurals and my hips are now bone on bone and having a lt hip replacement in December. The pain is awful. I have done PT twice with minimal help. When you said terrible nerve pain and couldnt sleep thats how mine started. Wow. Take care and i hope you continue to have less pain.

Love your hair! Have you tried Eden's Organic Tart Cherry juice? Just read about it today as a natural sleep remedy & for joint aches & pains. I ordered some off Vitacost as they were cheaper than Amazon/Whole Foods. Anyone else out there have any experience with it?

It seems like the death of your dog really took you off track. I noticed that you were using your dog as a reason to go for a good walk every day. Then, after your dog was mauled, you just lost the wind in your sails. I’m hoping that you can come back to your center. ❤
