We found a wildcamp near to Sligachan on the Isle of Skye, it seemed a beautiful spot at first with amazing views being right on the edge of a sea loch. However, as the night went on we were hit with a sudden wind, that was buffering and rocking the motorhome. I couldn't settle and started worrying that we were going to end up over the edge. In the end I woke Gary up and we moved on and headed for an Aire just over the Skye Bridge. We stop for for food, but wasn't taken with the offerings of cake or toasties that were £5 each, trying to be frugal I decided to make our own as I have all the ingredients in the van. This is when disaster struck and it could have so easily ended in tragedy, the gas for some reason (I think I may have left it open) caught the ignition & gave a small explosion, catching my arm in the process! This was an incredibly frightening experience and I urge everyone to always be careful and mindful when cooking with gas, in a campervan, motorhome or caravan. I was rushing and not concentrating and this could certainly have ended so badly for me. Please make sure you always have a point of exit clear in your vans and you have a fire blanket and in date extinguisher. We spent our 5th night offgrid at a wildcamp on the Oban road that night and enjoyed a walk where Charlie our dog saw his first ever train. We head a lovely walk to some waterfalls the next day before heading south. We then head to our last stop at a campsite, before ending our mini tour and heading home. It certainly has given us some memories and some we would rather forget. Our van is equipped with one 85 watt solar panel and a 230amp leisure battery, no expensive powerbanks or lithium batteries, this was during a cold spell in March.

This campervan allows us the freedom of travelling in all seasons, we actually do most of our travelling in the Autumn/Winter as I have lupus disease | SLE | We stay on campsites & caravan touring parks, Aires & wild camp out in nature. We like to walk | hike with our cocker spaniel dog "Charlie" taking in breathtaking scenery of the countryside and the coast. There is something so magical about driving through the mountains and tourist areas in a campervan. Buying local produce to take back and cook in the campervan, or stopping at an independent shop for coffee and cake helping to support the local economy.
