Once I heard of chiasms throughout the Gospel of John. I searched on the Internet and found a trace of it with the macro- and micro-chaisms woven throughout John's Gospel. The macro zeroed into the resurrection of Lazarus. To me, this would seem to communicate to the reader that if you trust in Christ (being the purpose of the book as mentioned near the end), then you too can experience a personal resurrection, albeit a spiritual one of the new birth, as in the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus in John 3. Furthermore, you may search the Internet for explanations and more examples of biblical chiasms.

Honestly, when I started watching this video, I thought always gonna tell us dojo means school and this is a Bible school and that’s really neat but kind of not worth, making a whole video over but I really like the way you said that and the sparring aspect of it it’s not just studying the Bible. It’s kind of using a verbal debate to practice it to it which is how we learn to apply naturally building knowledge version of muscle memory, like when you train a move over and over and over it because natural to you because you’re exercising it and making it part of you. That’s a lot better than just reading and understanding it because you’re applying it like you were saying sparring. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

All the chiasms!
@jmckasyru2 ай бұрын
I've been doing inductive Bible study on-and-off since 1986. Precept Ministries International got me started on Philippians way back then. So, I've been marking Bibles and printouts of single books of the Bible (a la the PMI observation worksheets) for quite some time. With that being said, I would suggest not underlining every word with color, because then the whole flood narrative is only marked for the one feature, the chaism. I would suggest points of color or colored symbols using the same color pattern but with only small bits of color indenting inward and then outward like the x-shape on the document you showed. The colored marks should be enough to catch the eye but not enough to flood (no pun necessarily intended) the pages with color. That will leave you with enough inmarked spaces to mark key repeated words or other aspects of the narrative account. Some people would be distracted as they are reading to see every verse underlined, regardless of the purpose for such.

Other than a interesting literary device used by the writer what importance does marking these chiasms have?
@p1lgr1mOne2 ай бұрын
In an oral culture like Old Testament times, chiastic structures were crucial as memory aids and tools for emphasis (sort of like primitive highlighters). The mirrored ABBA pattern helped speakers and listeners easily recall lengthy texts, as the symmetry created recognizable patterns that embedded the content in memory. More importantly, chiasms focus attention on the most significant point by placing it at the center of the structure. As in the example here about the Noah’s flood story, the chiasm highlights Genesis 8:1, where "God remembered Noah," as the pivotal moment, emphasizing God's faithfulness. This structure not only makes the story easier to retell and to remember but also points the audience to the key theological message. If one were to lead a bible study or preach a sermon on this story and fails to emphasize his message on 8:1, then he does not only become unfaithful to the overall emphasis of the story but he also shortchanges his listeners.
@IamGrimalkin2 ай бұрын
Well it's just told you what the most important part of the Noah account is. I think that's relevant.
@jeffreybrannen94652 ай бұрын
It also allows the reader and the preacher to accurately make the connection between Genesis 8:1 and Exodus 2:24. God remembering his people - the covenant and the judgment of the wicked by water baptism (1 Cor. 10:3, 1Pet. 3:18-22) and the rescue of the righteous by faith. Otherwise, we focus on secondary matters, such as fossil formation and geological processes. It doesn’t mean that we can’t or shouldn’t consider those issues, but those are at least secondary if not tertiary considerations. The Answers in Genesis approach which front loads the modernistic scientific questions misses the basic theological point of the Bible’s account. God judges the wicked, rescues his people, and will never forget them nor leave them. Where do dinosaurs come from? I don’t know. Will God judge his and our enemies? Yes. Will I ever be abandoned by my Savior and will be ever forget his covenant? Never!
@chelleduns87002 ай бұрын
So... The point of marking these is for instructional purposes, is what I am understanding from the responses. But if you are not an instructor and you have already identified the key passage, taken a note of and studied it. Marking is not necessarily, necessary. But for personal study purposes it is good to identify these when they happened.
@IamGrimalkin2 ай бұрын
@@chelleduns8700 He mentions in the video that he can show people the structure in his bible. It's also useful for embedding the knowledge and a remainder in case you forget. This is interesting. I’ve never heard of the chasm before, but I’ve seen it and been taught kind of the premise and reading the Bible. Is this why in the old Testament especially the stuff from Moses that things are repeated so much like when you’re reading what Moses wrote, it’s usually like reading the same thing 2 to 4 times. Is this a literary structure or kind of a way to help us remember it? I just thought Hebrew was maybe very detailed and repetitive and its nature and overemphasised everything which you kind of see in the language structure, it’s almost annoying in a sense you see a lot of Middle Eastern culture where they don’t want to sell this car. They have to tell you how honest they are now they’re not trying to steal from you and how you want to blast you a sacrifice they’re making and they just go on and on about everything. Like during the exodus the way that we just go on and on about things is this something put in the literary structure to just give us full context and then lead up to what it’s trying to tell us so we fully understand it and then as you move away from the sort of ratify it to make sure you get it?

I did a bunch of research on pens for marking and highlighters for highlighting. I found the Zebra Midliners were one of the best highlighters with no bleed through and little ghosting. I thought about using color pencils but found that they tend to leave indentations. I looked at the gel highlighters and they were like crayons leaving a waxy residue which you couldn't mark over with pens and if you leave your bible in a hot car the pages tend to stick together. So I looked for archival pens and I found the Pigma Micron technical pens didn't bleed or ghost as well as the Uniball Signo UM-151 and Uniball Stylefit pens didn't bleed or ghost. As an added bonus the Stylefit has the Meister 5 color multipen which you can customize with Stylefit colors that use the same archival quality Signo ink. I bought two so I have 10 colors in two pens that are great for travel. As far as the Micron technical pens I found a cheaper alternative that has almost the same quality called Charsoco that have a 12 color pack on amazon that is fantastic.

Day 4 of creation is the last day without living creatures, Genesis 4 is about death and murder, Jesus was betrayed on day 4 of Holy Week. So there's a full 7 chapter cycle, that corresponds to the 7 day creation account that begins with creation and takes us through the destruction of the flood... and then a renewal in Genesis 8 which would also correspond to Jesus being resurrected on the first day of the week (Luke 24), which also coincidentally is the 8th day.
