I think for the "join servers for you" thing, discord should create an option to prevent automatic joins and instead explicitly ask the user every time an app tries to join a server for them.

100% this is the best solution. When you click a normal discord invite link it asks you for permission before actually adding you to the server and that already required you to click the link yourself - you'd think bots should at least have to face 1 confirmation step before adding you to servers. Maybe also add a "I don't want to be invited to servers by this bot anymore" button or some other way of easily deauthorizing the bot rather than just telling you to look through your authorizations and hoping you follow through. Maybe even after clicking that, add an option for reporting the bot to Discord for review to try and catch actively malicious bots.

This would be a good idea, but the problem is, although most bots with this permission use it to scam, other bots, specifically the ones that let you join servers you find on a website (Disboard, Discord bot list, etc) need this permission, so when you want to join a server through the website, it will use the join servers for you permission to actually put you in that server, if you disable that permission for those bots, then you won’t be able to join the servers (If this does actually happen though, these bots can just make it so that you click an invite from the website, takes you to discord, and allowed you to accept or deny the invite, which you should accept lol)

I feel like if a bot wants to join servers on your behalf and it's not Patreon, you're better off not authorizing the bot at all rather than giving it a partial authorization because the bot probably has anything but good intentions.

What I don't get with the bot automatically joining servers for you, they should instead engineer a system where it queues up pending server invites in a neat list so when you come online you can either accept or decline invitations the bot automatically lined up for you. This way legitimate developers and users can retain their wanted functionality whilst not being forcefully dragged into bad servers.

The sheer jumpscare everyone had when a patreon creator I was supporting made a Discord for the first time was really bad. Within seconds this place with like only 1 channel had 1000 users and was forced to the top of our server list with a confusing silly name. I wonder how many people still aren't members of that due to the initial panic and leaving they did before seeing the ping that it was just how discords patreon bot works. It is insane that it's the program working as intended that we get tossed into a server like that with no warning or explanation. Even for legitamte use, this is BAD. So it is truly baffling they staff have never implemented your common sense idea.

When you run a new android app it asks for each permission that it needs to operate. If you say no to a permission the developer guidelines tell you that the app should load regardless of that and functions that require the permission will either not work or ask for permission again. Why can't discord do the same and allow us to deselect the join servers permission when authorizing a bot. If they made that list of permissions a checkbox for each permission it would be easy for vencord to make a plugin that automatically deselects it. Better yet, by default uncheck all of the perms and require the user to click on them so you can pop up a big ass modal to tell them the implications of that permission. In all honesty though. Am with you, they should just remove that permission altogether.

There’s actually an easy solution. Sorry this might be a bit technical. Like other things, when you sign in with Discord or connect apps to Discord, it uses a standardized protocol called OAuth2, also sometimes known as simply SSO (Single Sign-On iirc.) When the bot uses Discord’s OAuth URL, it passes parameters into the URL as a number. Basically, one permission has the value 1, one is 2, one is 4, so on so forth. This is because it’s easy to convert numbers to binary and binary to text. For example, say 1 is basic permissions, 2 is creating slash commands and 8 is joining servers. It’d be put into the permission parameter as 11, which would then be decided to binary as: 1 - basic permissions - yes 1 - slash commands - yes 0 - something - no 1 - join servers - yes If you subtracted 8 from the number, you’d have 3. Therefore, it would be decided as 1 - basic information - yes 1 - slash commands - yes 0 - something - no 0 - join servers - no If you go to the Discord developer portal, you can generate OAuth URLs. Just select the “join servers” permission while creating the URL, and grab the number. Then, on real Discord apps that use that permission, subtract the number from the bots URL and it should work. (This is how I last remember it working, it may of changed without my knowledge. I haven’t developed a Discord bot in a while)

I think the join servers for you permission should have a request or notification when it wants to add you to a server. For patreon-bot users, this would be "Hey, wanna join this server? It's the one this bot wants you to join" and for scambots it would be "Hey, wanna join this server? It's a random server you don't know" and at least then users can go "Wait, I don't want to join that server" and decline it.

The game is called "Ro-meet" and it's supposedly a roblox 'omegle'. Now that game is not what its supposed to be, full of minors trying to get sexual interaction on roblox, inviting to rp in games, etc. I think this would make a video thats fits the channels' nature and type of uploads, As well as bring awareness because, as a man, i only got to see minor females wierd interactions, but not the mens' side, which honestly quite scares me. got the discord report scam done to me, they hadn't asked for money at first, a friend had texted me about the report, and my guard was down. it was early morning and i was tired from waking up. if i had that pop up, i would still have my account now. discord support hasnt even terminated it despite my askings. thank you for making me aware im not alone in this endeavor

same thing happened to me, but it was on steam the person behind the scam is a singular person who hacks people's accounts to literally friend some of their friend's

@@ellisgaming29 yup, I let all my friends know to block my discord account and report it if it ever talked to them. I reported it and all that jazz. Luckily it hasn't tried to.

I hope if a user clicks that a discord employee told them to change their email, they give a popup asking you to tell them who the supposed discord employee is so they can verify the identity for you and prevent scams... and then just use it as a special report feature. :)
