Hey, Dana! I heard you said your electricity bill goes up to 10,000THB/month because of the A/C. I can see that you have a very old A/C unit in your working area. My reaction was 'Oh, WOW...I'm pretty sure if you get a new A/C installed it would have saved you at least half of the monthly electricity cost and easily paid for itself in less than a year.' You see, I work at home these days and I have my 2017-generation A/C's on 24-7. I never have to pay more than 4,000THB/month for electricity even in the hottest months. That's from a 30,000BTU A/C in 50+ sq.m. living space during the day and an 18,000BTU A/C in 30+ sq.m. bedroom at night. I live in a rather well-insulated home in Bangkok, though. If you plan to rent this house for over a year, I'd highly recommend replacing all your A/C's with wall-type inverter units from leading brands like Mitsubishi Electric or Daikin. A/C's get more and more energy efficient every year as the government's regulations get tighter and tighter. It really makes a big difference to replace your old A/C's. As for what size of A/C you need for your room, just multiply the area of the room (in sq.m.) by a factor of 700. For example, a 30 sq.m. room should be fine with 30 x 700 = 21,000 BTU A/C unit. Inverter type A/C from top brands usually go above their advertised BTU rating for a while when you turn it on to cool the room down faster, so you don't need to worry about paying extra money for a bigger A/C unit (...unless it's for a room full of people getting direct sunlight all day long). I hope this helps and if you end up saving some money from this, it could go toward even more cool content on your channel. Cheers!! Poom
@IdeaStudioBKK3 жыл бұрын
@@611moop Thanks for the info Poom, yes the aircon is very old for the downstairs. though the upstairs ones are new. With your formula, I would need a 105,000 BTS aircon for my 150sq/m downstairs. I think the other issue I have with my AirCon is that the condenser units are located on the front of the house and in direct sunlight all day long. :-)
@611moop3 жыл бұрын
@@IdeaStudioBKK For large spaces like an entire floor, you don’t really have to match the BTU from the formula because you don’t need every inch of space to be at the same temperature. For example, you’re not spending much time in your bathroom and kitchen and you’d be fine with 1-2c higher, you can just subtract the space from your calculation. Also, in your case it might be better to go with 3 A/C (24,000-30,000BTU each) to cover the whole space. Smaller units come with higher efficiency. And you have the option of turning off the one on the other side of the room where nobody’s working. This would lower your electricity cost by a lot. Your breakeven point might be in 1-2 years. Current generation A/C also work a lot more efficiently when the outdoor unit is exposed to direct sunlight in extreme heat of the summer. But if you can block the sun from your current outdoor unit, you might already see some positive results without much investment.

Thanks for the great video! The rental is so much more affordable just a few km out of city center. That was a big house which is probably too big for some people, wonder if smaller houses will be even cheaper. The neighbourhood looks really nice and I can relate to what Dana said, while Thai people are generally nice, there is still some difference. Those you meet in the city or tourist areas are there to make money, while those you meet in the suburbs are residents living in that locality, they are your neighbours, they tend to be nicer and honest.

Very cool and interesting video. I also live in the suburbs of Bangkok (Bang Kapi) and rent a house. I've got 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, 2 stories, front, back, and side yards in a very quiet gated community (mu baan) with security. I also pay 16,000 baht/month. No songtows here though, but there are a couple motorcycle taxis just outside the security gate. It costs more than my previous 9000 baht/mo. 1 bedroom condo, but the quality of life is soooooooo much better. As I type this, the only thing I can hear outside are the birds and a squirrel chirping, probably at my cat. Anyways, keep up the great work!

I am Thai and this is what I love to see two farangs standing on the street in the suburbs or suburban area with the temple gate background. It is true that most of Thai people see and think that farangs in the suburbs are better than the general who walk in the city or in some tourist attractions because in their opinions you come here for work or might be an entrepreneur. They see that you are diligent and visit the place not only for spending getting something and. I will tell you that Thailand's suburb's and countryside are much more interesting in many ways.
