It’s a proud moment after obtaining something you worked hard to achieve. I’ll be going for my CCNA very soon and that’ll qualify me to get a foot in the door for contract positions in the field. I’ll then build my experience from there. I worked desktop support for 6 years without an opportunity to move into other IT areas in the company because the lack of training and practical knowledge in other areas such as network administration. What else will open doors for me…I’m posting my cert once it’s in hands 😈 because I’m happy of what I accomplished. I know there’s footwork to be done for me to actually land a position.

That has been my tale for some time. Do the work, then complete certifications. The problem comes when "some" look at my CV and disregard the experience and questions. "Where are your certifications?" Kind of a double-edged sword... 😅

It really depends on the specific niche you're focused on.

This is true. Keep in mind certifications are there to get you past HR algorithms.

Why don't you remove the certifications from your LinkedIn profile if they don't matter when it comes to marketability?

I’m the CEO of a Tech company. I’m not looking for a job so it’s not even relevant.

The reason i even got the interviews was because of the certs, without them i wasnt getting any call backs.

I appreciate this approach. No sugarcoating it, just straightforward perspective. Very informative

Learning the PCI framework from Boyd has been cool, but it's the mindset change that actively occurs when I listen to him. I'm not there yet, but I'm doing more shifting and less resisting...

I love it! The mind controls these results, but the masses aren't ready to hear that.

Thank you so much, this literally just changed my perspective and it makes complete sense. I am going to press on to master the skills tied to my certs and actually post them like you mentioned. I do have a few recruiters requesting to connect with me recently and I think that's a foot in the door. I will now post 'effectively' my achievements going forth. Many thanks

Very different approach I'll definitely be incorporating into my approach thanks for dropping knowledge 👍🏿

So basically you ALREADY had a job you could gain experience with that’s not as easy as it sounds especially without certs. Sound good tho

Hi boyd , one question from your video you are suggesting focus on buisness problems But as entry level analyst , how we can knows about actual problems in particular position please share your advice on this topic also
@kudachimera520621 күн бұрын
very easy , with good prompt engineering you can post the Job description in AI (ChatGPT,Gemini ) ask it to identify 3 key major problems that that need to solved by the applicant. It will generate insights on the actual problems at hand.

9:14 like for a sysadmin position they should give you a Linux machine that wont boot and get stuck at GRUB(Yes, I'm showing my age, lol) and ask you to troubleshoot why it wont boot!

What are some sites used to get experience and build on skills?
@kudachimera520621 күн бұрын
I love this guy ,he preaches the gospel of the TRUTH as it is without beating around the bushes. You should not be busy chasing Certs one after the other but try to build your skill sets from the Certs, articulate value ,how you are able to solve the problem of the business, that's what is lacking in the industry.

Why can't you?
@kvancaydn2319 күн бұрын
Not about you. Must of the people that I know they blame certs because they dont have power to study for them and courage to test themselves. Certs are not game changer. But most of them have proper context and helps you to improve your skills.

So why some of the companies require those certificates in job descriptions??
@spectralknights218 күн бұрын
Correct💯 that's one of the requirements now if u don't have a degree or experience. Simple logic 🤷
@joebenjamins22632 күн бұрын
I don't know about you but i find that when i look/read the Job Spec properly, Certs are usually listed under 'Desirables' and not 'Requirements'...My interpretation: If it's desired, then it ain't as important. And even if certs were that important, they are still a tick-box test paper exercise in my opinion. Its Theoretical. They are not hiring you to 'Read' the job, they are hiring you to 'DO' the job. Certs simply illustrate that you know what's needed to do the job, Not how to do the actual job! and this is the message he's trying to put across.
