Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.

You could wash it and sit it in the sun to dry. There may be some manufacturing sizing in the canvas that will resist the paint. Good luck with your painting.

If it’s a modern waterproofing agent it is probably polyurethane. If so you need to coat it with a bonding primer before painting on it. An older tarp could be oiled but I think you would be able to see if that was the case.

Interesting idea. The waterproofing may only be on the outside. I've used PVA to seal fabric, not canvas, but it tended to go very stiff if it's not diluted. All the best with it.

Commercial house paint stores are also a source of canvas.

I'm eager to see how it goes. Here in Canada there's a product call Weldbond which is a glue but can be watered down, added to concrete for strength etc. I like to use it as a primer if I'm not sure about what he surface is as well. It works great except goes a bit "milky" if it get moisture on it. I don't feel that's an issue if I'm covering with acrylic afterward.
