It's important to keep the idea of the spontaneous marks and energy you had when working outside when you come into the studio!

Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

I took this course and it was fantastic! he has a brilliant way of teaching how to bring the energy and experience you feel outdoors in your paintings to your studio work without "copying" what's in journal onto your studio pieces. It's all fresh, new and exciting yet still from the same place . I love how the course is broken down into easy to framework that I continue to use in my art practice. Brilliant Lewis! everytime I watch you do these I am amazed and how much you "see" through the editing process. I learn so much about how I can push my own works more to grow that muscle. thank you!

Your videos are so helpful! Thank you! I have been hesitant to work outside, but I think I will put them together a sort of "traveling" art kit and give it a whirl!

Great video, I so admire how courageous you are in your approach, I could see so many possibilities in that piece that I would have been paralysed over having to choose. By the way, the link you posted takes us to the October 23 course, not the one in March 24?

Just wondering Lewis as to why u choose a particular part of a painting to feature over another? Is it intuition where words don’t do it, or other principles of art : balance, dynamics, possibilities, structural etc that influence your decisions of what to keep working with ? Possible explanations of your choices wud be educational during the editing process.
