I always try to separate out the process of 'doing' and 'thinking'. While I'm outside painting, I never worry about the end product. It's far more important to me to have a positive experience and get some of that on the paper so I have lots of interesting marks, shapes and colours to work with back at the studio.
--------------------------------------------------
Working with mixed media using a variety of different paints. I work rapidly but build up the paintings in layers to make sketches that can be referenced in studio paintings.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

I wonder how that translate with inks and other light bodied water soluble mediums? I'm committed to start paying for your course from end of July for August. See you there.

Love your work very inspiring! Question when you start your paintings what is the black pencil, crayon, or what are you using. Also you make marks with colored pencils, crayons, what are you using to put those color marks down? Very curious to find out. Thank you , Dawn Brosnan

Hi Lewis, love watching you paint and watching you build up layers. I have a question, do you seal you work with varnish after you have finished? Thanks

Inspiring! What is that gray paper you’re using. To rub paint away, blot, etc? Looks like plastic? But sounds like paper. Doesn’t look like the paper towels we use in the US.

I learn lots by watching you work, like the sounds of your tools on the board, but the music is distracting. You don’t need it.
