There's nothing factual about the comments made about the Mormon Church's involvement here. And some of the people here making comments concerning the Mormon Church really need to get an education before spouting off. The involvement of the Rhoades family in this area was not the original Rhoades mine family members, Thomas and Caleb. It was Gale Roades, as shown on video view of the claim records. Gale Rhoades was a descendant of Thomas Rhoades and Gale just died a few years ago. I've hiked all over this area many years ago and read stories of a lost mine in the area. The mine that this TV series usually shows is one of the water mines south of the BFRanch, just off Reservation Road. They show many things that are supposedly on the ranch property but are really many miles from the ranch. There may be a rich gold mine somewhere on or near their ranch but they will never find it. There's an area on a ridgetop above the head of Crow Creek that appears to have collapsed into a subsurface opening of some sort. Could that have been where a mine was?

Come on guy's do your research! For a Discovery channel show you could do better... The two arrows on the tree are the mark of a man named Shirl Atwood, known as "Bobcat" the S at the top is for Shirl and the A at the bottom of the crossed arrows is for Atwood. The two eyes on either side and the whiskers on either side make the "Catface" symbol. Which can be read as Shirl Atwood was here... And these trees are probably about 60 years old...

Gold potential? Sounds like those 'gold' plates in the book of mormon that later became 'gold colored' plates, because Smith didn't have any real gold to make his plates with, but tin was pretty common back then for plates, cups, stove pipes, etc.

Amazing how Joe Smith was able to run 3 miles through the woods, at night, fighting off 3 attackers, while carrying 200 lbs. of gold plates. Amazing how when someone challenged how he managed to do all that while carrying 200 lbs of gold, suddenly the 'gold' plates became 'gold colored' plates that weight about 47 lbs instead. Are we to believe Mormon and Moroni didn't know what gold was? Tin was readily available in Joe Smith's time and he had several years to hammer out some tin with scribbles on them. As far as the witnesses go, most of them hefted something in a box or covered with a cloth and never actually saw the plates.
