Discussion About Why I Didn't Harvest The Bear I Shot, 2022 Wisconsin Bear Season, Ravin R-10

This is a video discussion of my bear hunt here in Wisconsin September of 2022. I ended up hitting the bear with a NAP Spitfire 3 blade expandable broad-head. I tracked a blood trail for about 1/4 mile until I reached a swamp. There I lost the blood trail and my hopes of ever finding this 300+ lb bear.

You need an angle compensating range finder. I learned the hard way on a Colorado elk hunt. 42 yards and I took the shot.... Rattled of his rack and didn't injure him at all. My friend recreated the shot and his range finder said 42 yards but the angle compensating feature called for holding on 27.... I still had a great hunt experience and will never forget that lesson

Bears have a COMPLETELY different vital area than deer. Also, fat seals the wound too. I've tracked and found bear that hunters give up on. Small bear. Shouldn't have gone too far. The first day look in every thick brushy spot you find. The next couple of days focus on water sources.

No problem here. The only thing is This is why Hunting Bears with hounds is very ethical when done legally. See we can take our hounds, tree the bear and then have a precious few minutes to decide to harvest or leash our hounds love them up so they know they did a good job and leave that Young or Small Bear or Sow (which very few of us actually harvest because were not only taking that female out of the gene pool we are also taking all the bear cubs she would produce in her lifetime....none of us like to harvest a Healthy young or mature breeding age Sow...) Im sure you can see if EVERYONE harvested Sows how quickly the population will drop....see a Sow will get bred by 1 maybe 2 Boars but a Boar will breed as many Sows as he can track down thats in season....so it dont take very long and your population shrinks dramatically if everyone harvested Sows ...up a tree over hounds its very easy to tell Sow from Boar....anyway not to preach here look there are MANY MANY REALLY GOOD ETHICAL HOUNDSMEN & WOMEN IN WISCONSIN....go meet some you will quickly find some that will spend their own money for gas and time just so their hounds can get more work , more training....most lifelong houndsmen always have 3-6 young hounds that need more track time, more rigging time....trust me you will have the time of your life if you find the right people and I KNOW WISCONSIN IS FULL OF REALLY GREAT ETHICAL LAW ABIDING BEAR HOUNDSMEN & WOMEN who would be only too happy to take you, go with you or hook you up with people right in your area who will. Just an Idea... From a Western Mountain State Bear, Lion and Bobcat Houndsman. Broad side shot are the only shots not quartering to you or quartering away , but your shot looks low and at a angle you didnt get much into the animal plus it could of rib trace.i agree how can you miss with a cross bow a 4 year old can shoot one.......

I think it was too far forward more than low.. if you were 6 inches to the right you would have heard a moan.
