The second bit of this video stands alone as probably the best advice a shooter could get. Honest and to the point! If it ain't broke don't try fixing it.

If the superior barrel has the same bore diameter and rifling as the heavy they should shoot the same, you are depending on consistency in manufacturing tolerance , what you are doing is appreciated and requires a lot of testing ! You hit the nail on the head with one of your comments, once you find a combination that works stick with it ! Appreciate all the work you do for air guns ! We are so easily manipulated into thinking the next PCP to come along will be the magic gun , you have your magic gun in your 30 caliber , bet your still not satisfied ! 😂 no pun intended because I am the same way , eventually with all the hundreds, maybe thousands of combinations we have one only has to look in the mirror for the real improvement in our accuracy , US !

Great and wise comments. Been an air-gunner (and competitive firearms reloader/competitior) 35 years and still have my Beeman R-1 springer tuned by Bob Beeman himself after 10 years of use which I repeated at 20 years (.177 Kodiak Match 10.65 gr pellets sized gave 850 fps and .25" at 50 yds--took a long time to find that match which still works like magic). So yes, keep what works and love it! Finally moved into PCP with a Xisico .25 to learn the basics, which has included a phenomenal amount of testing (11 types, weights, so far). Only 1 was decent. Tried to find a reason....remembered sectional density from my firearms reloading and long distance competition so created a spreadsheet and started measuring and comparing results. Two more new pellets were accurate and their sectional densities were near identical. Just received two others with close stats....cannot wait to see whether this metric is worthwhile for a given barrel. (for pellets sectional density can be based on either head or skirt diameter, for slugs, just the max diameter in the formula (L/W)*M ) Be interested if you find it a good predictor for a given barrel (twist rate and choking are factors).
@michaelhurst5064 жыл бұрын
Just tested the next two pellets (Predator Polymag and H&N Hornet) that had very similar sectional densities to the AirArms Diabolo Field and the JSB Exact Kings. And the answer is "Yes, they shoot nearly identically in POA and MOA!" So for a given barrel the sectional density of the projectile might be a useful selection tool.

It was you and your Edgun Matador that got me fired and about precision long range airgunning (pidgeon off the top of a grain silo at 109 yds). OCD. many air rifle enthusiasts "suffer" from an irresistible urge to tinker. Once we called them Shade Tree Mechanics. It's NOT a bad thing, it is just a thing. Once cars became far to complex to tinker with, some chose computers, firearms, and a whole range of things they just could not keep their hands off. :-) Asking these poor souls to be content with an air gun that shoots well shows a misunderstanding of your base Ted. An air rifle that shoots well sits there begging for more tinkering. LOL Anyhoo...I love your videos TED. Now I'm off to tinker with....

Wow Ted. I'm not even a PCP guy. YET. I shoot break barrels and multi pumpers in .177 currently. However, I have learned so much from you and you've guided a little bit of everything I do. I've been able to drop my group sizes by half and am at a plateau of minimal gains at this point and that's what makes me happy. Accurizing and squeezing as much as I can out of so little, including a small budget. Thanks Ted. :-)

Here I thought you were gonna leaving us hangin the way your last video ended, like a bad movie with that groaner ending ... glad you came through amigo!! Not all of us have a tasty lineup of Impacts like oh I dunno... some guys ;-) and when shooters are seeing the latest videos with velocities steadily increasing matched with great groupings, well im betting some single gun enthusiasts are indeed looking for slight edge no matter how great his might be shooting then only to find out they just maybe went backwards and wished they’d maybe left it alone. But hey that’s what it is to learn huh Keep the info coming Ted, no matter what, FX is still leading the pack. God bless brother

Awesome video. I can definitely attest to this information about tuning. I tinker with the crosman 2400 co2. I modified the valve, ports, and spring. It wasn't until I installed the variable spring adjuster that I actually started seeing results. I installed a lighter spring inside the valve and lowered the hammer spring. I can send pellets from 100 fps to 560 fps accurately. The hammer distortion is very minimal and I have more precise groupings.

I bought an Impact Mark ii. The power Plenum was added at no cost. I have the .25 cal STX barrel and had HUGE hopes of flying Hybrids down range at 990 fps. Pattern was about 2 1/2" at 45 yes (size of my backyard range). Total failure. So I figured thatbid settle for the Hades. In my .22 Crown they are deadly to 75yds. And another disappointment. 3'' on my range. Cant comfortably take shots at Tree Rats knowing there's a really good chance I'd miss 2/3rds of the time. Back to the JSB Kings and King Heavys unable to use all the new fangled ammunition. How very disappointing. Now our good friend Ted comes along and explains that I am not the only one. Thank you. I really do appreciate the time and effort that you took to demonstrate all the different barrels and what ammo shot well and what NOT to waste our time on.

Thank you Ted for this explanation of your results. I just received my Air Venturi Avenger in .25, left the hammer at the factory setting and set the reg at 2200 psi, and got 914 with JSB Hades 26.54s. Believe you me, I have zero complaints. I was wondering if you have anymore videos coming on this gun? Steve Shally did a extensive video on the .22 Avenger but nobody has on the .25 or .177. The only PCP I have in .177 is a Nova Vista Liberty, also in .22 and their tuned sublimely, cool thing is the Avenger is shooting just as good but I’m concerned for other Avenger owners that are cussing right now because there isn’t any knowledgeable guidance out there on this gun in this caliber. Hey...we love you man and have mad respect for your skills so if you could...can you please make a semi tuning guide for our .25 caliber Avenger...PLEASE? Nice honest review and great tips.Keep up the great work, we learn every day. At the end of the day it is all about promoting the sport and to get other shooters to improve with us. I only started my channel about 4 months ago and keep to reviewing stuff I bought with my own money, keeps the review 100% honest. (And the bank account empty). Also found that the Superior Liner showed an improvement over the "older" STX. Weirdest thing is that the superior liner doesn't like the JSB KncokOuts as much as the STX liner. Both barrels love the Redesigned's, but the slugs are just better over the long distances.

Ted! You just cost me lots of free drinks!! I am a member of our local gun club and a handful of guys and myself have monthly airgun competitions there....Think EBR but with only 6-8 guys!! I have two competition guns, RedWolf HP .22 (still tuning the RedWolf so that has not made its grand debut as yet) and FX Crown Continuum .25 and I use the slug A liner shooting the MK2 heavies or the FX 33.95 and at 905 FPS I bet I would give your .30 a run for its money!! Ever since you posted this I have gotten text after text of guys saying they know my secret now (have used the slug A barrel for a year in the .25 Crown and it whips em every time)!! So I have a feeling the days of drinking for free (winner drinks for free) after our shoots is coming to an end as I see slug A barrels selling out at retailers that had them in stock waiting for the Superior Heavy liner inventory to arrive.... Thanks Ted, thanks!! P.S. 900-915 and try the FX 33.95 as well as the MK2 and get your hands on a 600mm barrel with the slug A liner....Might just surprise you!

Great end results and very objective. I have only experimented with the .22 and have found exactly the same with the STK and slug barrels, my suspicion with the slug A is that if .216 (hybrid and knockout) they dont like the tighter twist and less choke hence the failure to fully stabilise. I have to agree with the trigger comments i cant cope with one a gnat farting will set off and also with the comments on the cherry picking of groups that appear. Now to get a superior and see what works. Oh and lastly yes, if it works perfectly dont tinker!

Ted, I’ve watched these 2 vids on 25 cal. Liners/projectiles prob 5 times, appreciate you sharing your work! My m3 25 cal shoots 34 grain mk2’s at 905 out of the superior liner REALLY good but I’ve never been able get slugs to even come close to grouping as well. Am I missing the boat by not being able to get slugs to group as well as pellets? My 30cal mk2 impact stx is the same way, 44 grain pellets are extremely accurate and slugs are mediocre. Most of my hunting/target shooting is inside 100-125 yards. Maybe I just suck at tuning…most of your pest videos you are shooting pellets, have you ever found a combo with slugs that is as accurate as you are with pellets? Hope you are doing well!

Nice summary of the results, the only thing is how repeatable are they? If you took five other barrels would the results be the same? Possibly not if the projectile/barrel fit is not quite the same. As for anyone wanting to learn the details of why slugs are different to hybrids etc. I really wouldn't tune into the recommended chanel as the videos on ballistics contain a lot of basic aerodynamic and ballistic mistakes which may mislead viewers.

I spent weeks just researching the evolution of the gun. Turns out, the only way to find out exactly where my gun is in the evolution is to completely disassemble it and measure parts and compare them in forums. At the end of it all, it would have been smarter to buy a new gun.
