Tested: Best FX Barrels for JSB Knock-Out .22

All shots at 100 yards using my FX Impact MK2 @1000fps. This is not a paid advertisement, but the supplies were free. JSB supplied me with the ammo at no cost. FXUSA supplied me with the barrels at no cost.

I’m always happy when you provide all this data! Great stuff!!! From a sampling statistics standpoint I think what you are observing is just good old fashioned probability and statistics. Your metric is the extreme spread of a 10 shot group. This metric has random variability associated with it like flipping 10 coins won’t always give exactly 5 heads and 5 tails each time. Once in a great while you’ll get all heads or all tails, and everything in-between, but over the long haul all of the flips will average to 50/50. For your shot data, let’s say the average group size is 1.4”. The full statistical range of possible 10 shot group sizes in that case is actually just around 1” up to 2”. If you shoot all day long and change nothing all your groups will be in this range. And 1% of the time you’ll get an 0.8” group and a 2.5” group! Generally it takes about 20 groups to start to see the average capability.

Couldn’t agree with you more because my MKII with power plenum, Huma dual port transfer and modified pellet probe with same setup as yours I’m extremely happy with. Mine doesn’t like the MKII knockouts but loves the original .216” knockouts Funny thing is the 700mm superior liner is 1:24” twist yet the same length Slug liner A is way faster at 1:15 then they come out with the superior heavy liner at 1:16. I have the slug liner A sitting but the superior shoots so well I won’t take a chance.

Nice review, have a crown with a 500mm barrel in cal 22 that I think also shots the jsb ko's very well. Seems like the 217 works a little better. I havn't seen that big tin with only 200 in before. Here in swe we have usually the 200 pack for about 10€, so they are really good value slug. Looking forward to the 500mm barrel groups 👍

Hi Ted. I’ve fallen in love with the jsb knockouts. I was very surprised when I just loaded a few to see how they would fly. Only brought them because they where jsb’s. Now I only use these for my pest control company. I’m using the fx impact mk2 with a stx slug barrel. Just dial the turret and at 100m I hit what I aim at. They come out at 940fps. Seems to be the best speed for them. Any faster and they open up a wee bit. It’s my belief that the flange at the rear of this slug opens up to engage the rifling it’s hit by the high pressure air flow. Then after it leaves the barrel it acts a bit like a pallet being flared out slightly. Just my theory.

Superior 600mm 970FPS....Trust me.... I have been chasing the accuracy of Jeffs gen 1 .22 FX Crown using the JSB Knockouts and have found the secret sauce. New MK2 Crown, 600mm Superior liner, reg at 145, internal hammer spring tightened up a bit gives 990 on max, dial it down to the half way point between A and Max gives ya 970... Laser accurate, 200+ score over and over......

Good testing all the different kinds of 700mm barrels, Ted. The SA guys(Matt, Gerhard, and Roelf) have mentioned that between 23 and 26g(Javelin slugs) is the "breakpoint" for where to go from a Superior(23-26g or less) to a Heavy(23-26g or more) out of 700mm FX barrels at speeds between 925 and 1000fps. Something about the twist rate? They were only speaking about the Javelins tho. May be different with the KOs? Thanks for all the great work! Always enjoy your videos

Whats crazy is my mk1 wildcat will shoot dimes size groups at 50 yards with most .217s. Mainly varmint knockers and NSA but at 100 I shot about an inch to inch and half group. I was blown away! I didn’t expect a mk1 wildcat to shoot a group better than 5” at 50 yards

Hello Ted, comparing superior heavy vs standard I haven't found a slug in heavy outperform the standard. The knockout 217 constantly get moa and sub moa grps at 100 yards and in good condition at 200 yards using the superior standard.

Hwy Ted iv been watching your videos since you started air guns love your content. I just bought a fx impact m3 22 with 700mm barrel. I just rotated my transfer port to the slug side and my point of impact was 16 inches high and 6 inches to the right at 50 meters is this normal or is my liner jacked up?? Utah airguns set my gun up to shoot 18 grain pellets at 920fps and I tuned it to shoot fx hybrid slugs to 950fps, rotated the port to slug side and it went to 990 to 995 fps. My point of impact was way off I had raise my no limit mounts to even get it back on paper. Do I need a ne liner or what.?? Appreciate any help.

.217 My take: The spiraling is present at closer range, but not as exaggerated as at distance. The spiral circumference "grows" as the slug gets further away.

Hi Ted, I just returned from the range w a new Mk-3 impact 700mm .22 . The gun is tuned to shoot 25.4 gr. @ 1020 fps. I tried the jsb knockouts mk-1 and mk-2 s. The mk-2s grouped the best , however I could get 3-5 touching then a flier. This was repeated over and over. I could never get consistent 10 shot groups. I brought another impact .25 w stx superior barrel in 600mm tuned to shoot jsb 25.4 gr @ 935 fps and could get consistent moa groups w no fliers. So I don’t think it was my lack of shooting ability. My question is (unless I missed it ) were you shooting w the standard superior liner or the heavy? Thank you for the helpful video. T

Dial it down about 30 FPS....It makes a difference. I was at 1000 seeing very good results and tuned to a 5 fps drop in velocity starting at 1000 down to 950 and 970 was far and away the best speed (600mm Superior)....

Nice video Ted, were those the 216's or 217's you tested? I only have 216's and they performed much better in the Slug A liner than in the Superior Heavy Slug liner, don't have an old STX liner unfortunately. All 700mm, preferred speed was 935fps, didn't like them past 950fps at all. The JSB KO's also expand exceptionally well in clay and water. H&N more accurate but almost no expansion... Keep up the good work and honest reviews. Down in sunny South Africa the Nielsen slugs are double he price of the JSB KO's (probably due to low distribution network and import taxes), JSB's by far the cheapest of all slugs down here (about 35% cheaper than the nearest rival). Did a lot of testing and enjoyed every second of it. Gert from AimSmall.

Mine were .217. I only have one tin of .216's. They didn't do well from regular STX barrels. Never tried them in a slug barrel (more choke / faster twist rate). Seems that is something I need to do now. 🤦‍♂️😁
