They did the 2d>3d transition so well aesthetic-wise that I was really confused during this entire review.

Actually Disgaea games are not really that grind intensive, it's just the easy way. Disgaea has a lot more room for strategy than other srpgs but few people actually make use of it because grinding is not just easy but also fun and addictive so you generally end up stronger than the story enemies' base level and most people don't use the option to raise enemy lvl (dunno if it is in 6 but it has been in several previous Disgaeas) to adjust enemy balance based on their grinding. But when it comes down to it Disgaea is far more strategic than other srpgs, you just are rarely required to make full use of the strategies Disgaea offers. I mean, throwing alone adds an order of magnitude of strategy beyond what other srpgs have because it lets you instantly reposition enemies, allies and neutral units and even some terrain objects and of course geo symbols in a number of different ways whereas many other sprgs won't even let the player move after attacking or move units outside the pre-determined order.

Don’t like the changes, but I understand that they are trying to get new fans. Bought it for the storyline. Hopefully they will release D2c on the switch Adell was my favorite.

Really weird decision to have the character start with stats in the ten thousands though, I think. It kind of makes them feel like they belonged to your big brother's save file. It was cool to go from reasonable 12 ATK to 20,000 ATK and beyond in the old games, but all numbers seem meaningless if you already start at (by classical RPG standards) ludicrous heights. The lag to me is also a much bigger deal than for you it would seem. Balance mode already looks blurry enough and still doesn't get rid of all input delay. So I might sit this one out or wait for a PC release.

@VHSFace I play exclusively in handheld mode, so the screen is fairly close to my eyes the whole time. Maybe that's why I notice it so clearly.

They shouldn't have made the 3D models. A LOT of resources goes into this kind of thing and I whished they redistributed the resources elsewhere. Let's be honest. No disgaea fan really cares about 3D. The amazing 2D sprites are more than enough for me and for this game it even fits perfectly well. Imo gameplay, performance and level design is the number 1 priority for a disgaea game and just right after this follows the story. On the other hand the 3D lessens the overall estatic of the game somehow.

I fully agree with this. The added 3d was not needed. The magichange was sorely missed. The tower attacks and such. And the auto battle and auto repeat makes it just feel like a mobile game I tend to set on auto pilot and play another game at the same time (just like games like Destiny Child on my phone)

I mean, I'm glad they have some depth to it. But they Yeeted Weapon Skills, and Really made the numbers and Stat grind go from Power earned, to unearned noise. It makes it hard for me to connect with my team, and build them the way I want. plus the Move to 3D had them cut out a lot of Class options (RIP Skull class, you will be missed) I still plan on getting it even if the Demo left a lot to be desired, but honestly if you want the best Disgaea experience, go play 5.

The frame rate issues in the demo hurt, but, this is still a day one pickup and not thinking twice - they kept Magic Knight in all of her glory, and I'm here for it. XD

Ngl 3D in game and skill cutscene makes it feel like a Pokemon Game BUUUUT its the same old Disgaea game structure and characters. Its kinda weird step since im used to seeing the characters as a 2D sprite model which I really love.

The question is, is this game better than Disgaea 5? Does it have more content? I think it's a bit weird to be able to review the one game that almost literally never ends in time for the release. Would you say this review covers the story mode? The post game?

From the few spoilers I know of and the very low level and stats shown... they only covered the main story here. The post game this time is 3 tiers (not 2 tier like Disgaea 2, 3, 4, D2 and 5) with each additinal post game challenge unlocking a higher level, and stats cap. I mean in the demo it only takes about 4 hours to auto grind your way to 9999 the first time, if you explore the options that the game just gives you. [Fighting through the main 7 levels. To get 200 mana in the shop, then painfully add one mana at a time to Zed to gain a bunch of karma via the Dmerit system. Then reincarnat turn up the cheat shop to 7 grind to level 5000. Unlock the higher karma cap and unlock that karma instantly, super reincarnated and then put cheat shop difficulty to max. And then instead of repeating the 7th level over and over again, start fighting the senate for exp and mana. (At least in the demo)]

I'm only at 26 quadrillion max damage, and according to my Japanese friend, that's almost good enough to take out tier 1 post game boss. Keep in mind Disgaea 6 has kind of inflated all the values. Stats are 1,000 times more inflated, and levels are 10 times inflated. I haven't inspected this to the science level but you can probbally compaire items to the other Disgaea games to see what I am talking about.

Kind of glad the development investment toward Nintendo seems to be paying off for a lot more smaller devs. Bothers the shit out of me that if you're not a AAA dev, you're left in a free for all, no matter how long you've been around

Disgeias a series i always enjoyed playing. Ive played Disgeia 2 and 5 and still havent beat any of them. Its one of those games that i play midway through, stop, and start over again because i forgot about everything. I barely use the other modes like character creator because i just want to focus on the main cast. Looks like 6 will be the same situation.

I've played Disgaea 1, 2, and 4. I've started Disgaea 1 and 2 multiple times in 3 differnt platforms, but never finished either. ^^; I did clear Disgaea 4, though. I have 150 hours clocked in on Steam. I'm still missing some of the extra scenarios, though. (I have no plans to max my characters stats, but I might come back to finish the story content unlocked in the post-game.)

I don’t agree with that there is serious issues with the game but if you are fan your going to play this no matter what and still say it’s alright, they just remove almost everything you love about the series

Reviewer here, If you run the game in graphics mode there will be a good amount of lag present. I recommend going into the settings menu and change it to either Balance mode which will fix that slightly or Performance mode that fixes it entirely but also makes characters and assets look a bit blurry and unfocused.

At this point the formula needs to be reevaluated. It's boring and feels low effort. I know that the systems place are for specific types of players that like the grind but each new game just feels like a reskin.

Yeah I’m big on DISGAEA but this one here is just a numbers game the sales pitch here is huge number and damage but the flow really sucks they literally just added more 0 on base stats and levels this project was a new approach but seeing how the disgaea rpg mobile game have crazy subversions of existing character I will have to skip this one cause I feel like they had the opportunity to make a better DISGAEA game without the 3D model the 2d mobile was the charm for me. Now franchise is steering more into a comedian narrative I want Atlus to touch back on this and make one that’s extremely dark. Now that would be a breath of fresh air

This game is the worst Disgaea ever. They removed a ton of great features from the previous games and sacrificed the framerate, just because they wanted to add that 3D animation crap that nobody asked for and was never needed. What a letdown
