Bought a Tempest UR local from Ebay, not working, in a barn rotting away. Brother picked it up 2 hour drive. Was stored at brothers house, he opened the cabinet control panel and a mouse 🐁 jumped out, it was in the cabinet for the 2 hour drive home. Scared the crap out of him 😱 , huge nest in the control panel and another nest in the light fixture. 🐭 Always fun to see what is in a cabinet.

I have fond memories of a Moon Patrol table top at the Stake and Ale across the street from Six Flags in Arlington Texas that we as a family traded off on 2 player through the late 80's through 90's as we visited the restaurant. Sadly we never did really well as it's a difficult game for those who dont play it regularly. *edit* to release any metal parts from one another cleanly there is nothing better than Chemsearch "Yield" aerosol release agent.

Moon Patrol one of my all-time absolute favourites, and definitely one of my first memories of visiting the arcades growing up in Hong Kong from 1986-1990. Hong Kong now they had some Arcades back in the day. The smoked filled one but also the family friendly ones where I played Moon Patrol. The sounds, music, colours and graphic art of the bezel, no wonder then I bought my 1st ever Arcade machine I bought a Mr Do! Low Boy cab.

It is interesting that Moon Parol uses the upright 2-way joystick instead of the Williams cocktail one. In reference to the coin door and control panels, that coin door almost looks like it was supposed to be a Robotron coin door and was re-purposed for Moon Patrol. Really cool vid, can't wait to see more!
@overtimearcade
@overtimearcade 5 ай бұрын
Oh wow, are these really not the normal two-way cocktail joysticks? Were those a different design from the upright style, or just shorter? Also, what did you see on the coin door that suggests Robotron? Fascinating stuff!

Hi from Guatemala. I remember the Moon Patrol, but I remember to jump with joystick not with a button like this one, One of my favorites games, and maybe on the first one I played in the 80's. I played the arcade version in San Francisco Recently on a event close to Pier 39, I'm still good on it!

Very cool! It’s possible Irem licensed Moon Patrol to a different manufacturer outside the US that used a different control scheme than Williams.

Many thanks for sharing this update! I fondly remember the “Moon Patrol” cocktail table from a game room in the giant pool atrium of a Holiday Inn from when I was a kid. Great fun! I had the thought that the plain wood grain sides would look great stencilled like the upright Williams cabinets of that era. Original is always cool. Also, looking online, I think a bunch of these started out with a 13” screen, so perhaps your unit was upgraded.
@overtimearcade
@overtimearcade 2 ай бұрын
Oooh, that's interesting! I looked at some photos of other Moon Patrol cocktails, and I see what you're saying now. I wonder if some shipped with 13" monitors and others shipped with 19" monitors, perhaps some of which were factory conversions? I'll have to take a closer look next time I dig into this thing!
@ryanfoster9863

Chatting with the wife, she remembers seeing a bunch of those at pizza restaurants. A smaller screen is handy for the plates, and cheaper. Does Williams or anyone have the brochure for these anywhere online?

She remembers seeing a bunch of Moon Patrol cocktails BITD? I don’t think they were particularly common. I found a Williams Moon Patrol manual that lists a 19” 19K4903 monitor for the cocktail cabinet on the second-to-last page here: arcarc.xmission.com/PDF_Arcade_Williams/Moon_Patrol_Preliminary_(16-3007-101)_Aug_1982.pdf

Many thanks for sharing this! I’d like to have one of these someday as we both remember these sorts of machines fondly. The use of quality plywood makes them attractive as well. It almost looks like building a nice copy would be practical with the right plans and materials.

If you're worried about the rust on the metal plates then I suggest just submerging them in vinegar for 24/48 hrs and then giving a light wire brush. Should remove all the rust. Then a coat of silver paint and it'll look almost new for less than $10
@overtimearcade
@overtimearcade 5 ай бұрын
I think I'm going to try out a few different rust removal methods and compare them. Vinegar will definitely be one of them. Thanks!

For future reference, if the screw head is visible/accessible, you might consider drilling the screw head... Once enough material is removed, the remainder of the screw head should become weak enough to remove the control panel, without damaging it... The remainder of the screw can then be dealt with... For the rusted parts, consider investing in a container of Evaporust... It's safe to use, and reusable!

Howdy my Friend, Wow, that is a rough game and cabinet, however for $200, if the only thing you could save was the K7000 monitor, than I call that a very good deal, I really like those monitors, really good quality, and sought after, I am currently trying to locate one of those monitors to replace a CRT in a multicade, I'm not a fan of those in classic Arcade games, just not not the same I grew up playing in the 80s, I look forward to seeing you getting thus classic up and running again, Stay safe, God Bless and game on my Friend 🕹

Its incredible to me how resiliantly these cabinets were constructed back in the day. Quite literally, they were made to last -- perhaps not with an eye for the '20s, but to last nonetheless. It shows a kind of respect for the artistry and creativity that went into these games. Their very size and weight make them a literal burden to some, maybe, but a treasure to others. I like that. Thanks for letting me wax poetic.

@wanghotangho5803 5 ай бұрын
@@overtimearcade well, it’s in storage and I bought it with the sound issue. I know a bit more about checking voltages now than when I bought it, so I’ll take another look soon. Do you know exactly what I’d recap on the sound board? It’s been hard finding info on Carnival sound issues.
@overtimearcade
@overtimearcade 5 ай бұрын
Looking at the schematic for the Carnival sound PCB, there are only 3 electrolytic caps that you might try to replace, as well as several tantalum caps that could potentially go bad. There's also the LM741 amplifier on the sound PCB that's worth testing/replacing.
