The really sad thing is that even at £1.00 it is not that cheap when you can buy Tesco 70% pork sausages for less than 30p each. Add in your mash and cooking this yourself would come in at less than £1.00. In short, it is a rip off masquerading as a bargain.

You are a true martyr! I have bought quite a few different items from Farmfoods recently but steer clear of the really cheap rubbish. I haven't come across anything as bad as that! Their bulk packs can be okay, I have tried pork steaks, their 1 kg lumps of extra mature cheddar, they do cheese and ham something or others that are pretty good, sort of kyiv like structures. I also buy the cooked chicken fillets to go with salads for cheap healthy(ish) meals. No idea how they compare to Iceland as we haven't got an Iceland anywhere close.

Iceland still do around 8 different frozen ready meals for £1, and I have never had to bin one yet. I have a Farmlands frozen food store around an extra 5 miles away, but rarely go there. Always seems to be trade customers in there buying trolley loads of bread and milk. I get their leaflets through my letterbox most weeks. Sometimes the chicken in Iceland's ready meals can be a bit suspect, but not bad enough to bin the whole meal. I do avoid Iceland's seasonal party foods, after buying pigs in blankets. When the sausages appeared to have just been filled with sausage skins.

@@yips_way It’s being a long time since I’ve seen Yoman powdered potato to be Frank I had almost totally forgotten about it, but thinking back I must agree that they were easier to mix than the Smashed Potatoes but I had difficulty getting all of the powdered potato to blend so sometimes I would find several small balls of powdered potato that hadn’t been even dampened which made for a very peculiar texture in my mouth. I found that by using the potato flakes, I had better results in blending them together. As for the ready prepared and frozen potatoes I have tried, I find that they’re very hit or miss on portion size, usually too much for one meal and not enough for two.

I haven't shopped at Farmfoods for many years now. What annoys me, is when places like Asda do the filled Yorkshire puddings 3 for £6, and it is two sausages/ mash/ peas and onion gravy, that was actually decent for a quick cheap meal, and then decide to discontinue them, Tesco did a similar one that just didn't match it. I wouldn't eat that if someone paid me a pound, but for someone who is genuinely skint, they could drown it in ketchup or Worcester sauce to give it some flavour.

Iceland do a range of ready meals for a quid and they are more than acceptable. Both the sweet and sour chicken and the spaghetti bolognaise are bigger and tastier than ones I’ve had that cost 3 times as much. Their bog standard £1.35 meat feast pizza is an absolute steal as well…honestly one of the best shop bought out there.

@@racingspoon The lasagne is horrible though. Sainsburys and Morrisons do a good lasagne for 85p I think. Sainsburys has a better bolognese than Morrisons. Lidl's bolognese is good and cheap as well. Their lasagne is good but costs £1.49. Do a good chicken tikka masala as well for the same price. I miss buying Sharwoods chicken curry though. Not worth it for the price now when it's only 375g.

Hi Gareth, i was laughing so much at this one mate 😂 I know for a fact, if id bitten into one of those sausages i would of been sick... I know it's a pound but... No thank you! It looked horrendous & those sausages must be the worst available... I used to buy those cheap chilli con carne, & beef hot pots for £1, no idea of cost nowadays on those, but they were the only ones i could stomach, mainly after a few beers... I enjoyed the review nethertheless mate, cheers 🍻

It's nice to see someone tell it like it is, Nice One 👍 I just wonder how cheap it would be to peel a few of potatoes and stick a couple of Richmond's Finest with it, probably a bit more edible than that, tbh it's not cheap if you can't eat it.
@martinwebb1681

You're joking right? ... Richmond's sausages are one of the lowest grade sausages out there, they are just 42% meat, the ones in that cheap farmfoods meal contain more at 55%. You should get a gong for doing this for your fans! I left the UK back in the early 80,s and I took a bag full of fond memories and one was the real English farm/home made cooking. I’m a roast man through and through and my county was famed for its meat. When I see this garbage produced it makes me wonder what the hell it’s coming to. As for the smash adverts they made me laugh, and the product didn’t seem as bad as this muck . Great content keep it up.

Right now I'm inspired to boil some potatoes and parsnips, throw them in the old food mill with some herbs, and spread them over some breakfast sausage and frozen peas and carrots. For mash get Smash! Yeah, remember that well and I still use instant mash from time to time. I also keep the tubs from instant meals to re-use for heating stuff in the microwave. Managed to get to a farmers market in dundee yesterday and picked up a pork sausage roll and a haggis and black pudding one (75g each). Not actual sausages but rather seriously packed with meat. £3 each but man, they are tasty and filling so I reckon very nice value for money. Also picked up a couple of Arbroath Smokies and some fishcakes direct from the son of the fisherman who caught them.
