A few days ago I decided to check out the Traveler's voice lines. All of them and this short really shows the importance and difference that Paimon can make for the journey. It's mostly banter and joking around, but you do get the sense that our duo do care for one another and enjoy each other's company, even when things aren't super serious.

I'm not saying you wrong but I like to think the times in which they travel also plays such a big part in it. Lumine and dain travelled probably right after a whole nation they were in got genocided I can't imagine dain a knight who just lost his home and people and lumine who just lost aether would of been the most positive duo. Aether and Paimon journeyed 500 years later in a land not at war. So they really travelled 2 different teyvats

But those details are definitely understood and felt in us, the audience, as well as inside the game itself. Taking into account their shown interactions and personalities, it's understandable to see the rift form between Lumine and Dain.
