I'm proud of you for writing a book Is it filled with the wrongs that been committed against you? My people have a book called the Dammaz Kron where the High King himself records all grudges, insults and slights against the entire Dwarfen race. In the end, it was the downfall of my people. Too much pride and anger caused them to chase revenge instead of fighting Chaos.

Honestly, the film isn’t really that good. I loved it as a kid but as a filmmaker myself, it most definitely does not hold up like the child Schumer, for like five year olds most definitely could’ve been cut out of the film. It also suffers from the same problem of Atlantis of being just too short, for the story is trying to tell where it felt rushed. Also, the early 2000s/late 90s songs really date the film. I think they should’ve made the film more for an older audience of young teenagers and it would’ve held up much better, but instead, it’s handicapped by trying to appeal to five year olds. Also they made a lot of design choices that just don’t make sense like why are the spaceships basically just ate navy ship from the 1700s when he could’ve done so many more creative designs. The film just was all over the place.

This one is definitely one of my favorites. I honestly wish Jim was a more prevalent meet and greet character in the parks possibly getting into a few shenanigans with Milo from Atlantis. Treasure Planet has so many scenes that could've made for awesome rides. This one is my older sister's favorite, if there was a ride for this one, I'd take her. I think it was mostly a missed opportunity, this probably could've become it's own franchise, we might have even gotten that crossover with Atlantis The Lost Empire that fans also like to make with so many of them believing Jim and Milo would be great friends. One thing's for sure though, if I ever go to a Disney Park, and Jim is around, I'm getting an autograph.

This, to date, is my favorite Disney movie. Ever. (And I'm a Disney film junkie, so I've seen them all). And it's story is perhaps one of the most profound Disney has ever made--and yet Disney sabotaged it (corporate cannibalism) in favor of CGi animation, and in so doing disrespected the creators who they promised the film to after all the successes they gave them in the 90s just to make a point that "2D animation is dead" (so that they could justify their interest in CGi at the expense of their 2D films). Jerk move, Disney. (Ironically, Disney tried to do this again with Tangled. The company was preparing to cannibalize the animation team by posing it to fail, with the CEO--Bob Iger--saying it would be the last princess movie for a while because "girls don't want to be princesses anymore." Perhaps the animation team learned from the Treasure Planet fiasco, as they actually stopped the film from going to theaters, rewrote massive parts of it, renamed it, and then released it. Iger was forced to take his words back after the film's colossal and unexpected success, and they changed their entire business plan to drown people with almost entirely female / "princess" protagonists. In other words--Disney's CEO is an idiot who doesn't know how to read his audience and only lives off the reputation of the company's past successes).

As a 10 year old I gave zero f's about the voice cast as long as they can do the job. I don't care about the names. As an adult I don't care about the names. No 10 year old is saying I want to go see a cartoon because it has a specific actor. You spent way to much time on the voice actors and not enough time on Isner wanting 2d to die so they could move on to cheaper 3d.
@Jsa4604 ай бұрын
Yeah this. Disney used to cast voice actors on talent and fit, not whether they were a big name. Look at successful movies like Little Mermaid and Lion King. Sure there are some recognisable names in there, but they're not A list celebs and they don't have their names emblazoned in neon lights to get people into the theatre. The move to using celebrities to market movies (regardless of if they actually even fit the character they are meant to be voicing) really took off after Aladdin (and then Shrek cemented the deal).

Big fan of the movie here...the shot where the camera travels through the inn's window towards the crescent moon... *which is revealed to be a space port* blew me away the first time I saw the film and still does today - one of the most awesome moments in Disney's animated canon. Early on in your video you say Treasure Planet may have been too experimental for audiences to wrap their heads around...but near the end you suggest they should've taken *more* creative risks? Quite possible Eisner's long game was exactly as you speculate: starting with an unfocused ad/promotional campaign, create a deliberate flop as an excuse to decimate the studio's 2D animation staff. (Too bad the strategy didn't lead to a "Springtime for Hitler"surprise for the studio.) My personal theory why TP flopped: *they tried to appeal to too many different audiences at the same time:* You had the angsty, fatherless teenager with a chip on his shoulder, "traditional" (and very different looking from Jim) animated characters (particularly the dorky Doppler), and to top it off, something for the kiddies: the blobby Morph character. It's possible each of those story elements chased away audiences who might have enjoyed the movie's other 2 aspects. (I'll give Martin Short a pass because I love the guy's over-the-top Ed Grimley energy.) Speaking of whom, "I must say" (to quote Grimley) why is it a problem kids don't know who Martin Short is? Isn't the character more important than who's voicing them? It can be argued building animated movies around celebrity voice actors distracts from enjoying the film and its characters for itself - but it certainly helps bring adults into the theater. (Hey, come to think of it, none of the voice cast were of "name above the title" caliber - another part of Eisner's secret plot to kill Disney 2D?) The studio did manage to eke out one more 2D feature, "The Princess and the Frog" in 2009, but none since.

I really don't buy the idea that Disney gave it a bad marketing campaign just to spite the directors for persisting in wanting to make the movie. The producers may have hated the concept but, I assure you, they hated losing a bunch of money more. How does the saying go? Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity? Or maybe it wasn't entirely stupidity. Maybe this was just a niche movie that would only appeal to a certain segment of society. I wish fans of it could admit that instead of pushing crazy conspiracy theories. There's no shame in it. Some of my favorite books and movies are niche.

Credit to BREADSWORD to add why this movie failed. The fact that the general public at that time caught on to Disney's release patterns, and Disney executives were aware of it through the marketing surveys four months before the scheduled release. Disney at that time embraced home videos and DVDs at that time, and the people (knowing this) put in their heads, if Lilo & Stitch debut in theatres in December, then the home videos would release either on Spring or Summer. It's not that they didn't want to watch Treasure Planet, they were just smarter with their money and just purchase Treasure Planet out of curiosity or saving it for movies that they are interested in.
@AntonioKing-v4dАй бұрын
Also, Disney had a changing of executives with two different ideas of where they want their company to go. Katzenberg approved of this film initially before he was replaced by Eisner.

As much as I'd love to see a Treasure Planet remake using the incredible technology available in filmmaking today... frankly, I'd be terrified of the movie being set up to fail a SECOND time. Disney's live-action remakes have all been of lesser quality than their source material, and they are getting less profitable as their nostalgia value and novelty fade. One serious bomb could give an excuse to move on...

Honestly, this is my impressions of the film and I’m speaking as a Filmmaker myself. I think Disney made a lot of creative decision choices that were bad. It seem like they didn’t wanna take the material to seriously so they had a lot of jokes written for like three year olds, that no one else is going to find funny. It also dated itself by having terrible early 2000 songs instead of emotional music created from the score. It also suffers from the same problem of Atlantis of the film. Not even being 90 minutes long and I think it should’ve been about an hour and 45 to tell a proper story and there’s also characters that were added in the last like 20 minutes of the film that are basically pointless And add nothing to the storyline

Honestly aside from Lilo and Sitch, Treasure Planet is the second movie i can relate to and I'm glad that I finally watched it, and I agree with everyone who says it's CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED and it definitely nerds to have more appreciation but lately I've heard more people talking about it and that makes me happy to see because it's finally getting the chance to not be an underrated gem so much anymore and gets the chance to shine in the stars, but you know?... There's something else I'm deeply bothered by that clearly doesn't get enough recognition or attention either and it's an Actor who goes by the name of James Paxton who is the SON of laye Actor Bill Paxton and it's kinda pissing me off how more people don't know he is because he's becoming a star in his own right but apparently not enough people care, so I'm highly suggestioning to everyone in the comment section to start searching up Actor James Paxton and look up everything you can about him because it's about yime he got the true attention he clearly deserves.

I agree with everything except nothing deserves Disney's souless grab for cash live action reguritation treatment. They just don't want to invest in more expensive, creative traditional animation when they can just plug something that did well into a live action remake format and call it a day under the guise of "improving the original". That's why they'll remake movies like Moana and not Treasure planet. Disney is failing as a company and it's because they've lost their way.

It is a fairy tail with a great visual, music in the end you just love the characters, and the story. And as always they made the release date very badly. That is the reason many movies flap. If there is a big choice you choose but you can't always choose every thing. There are many movies which didn't have the promotion or the timing and we never see a part 2 or 3. Luckily this one doesn't need part 2
