For the first time since the pilot, the DuckTales Reboot goes globetrotting -- but it's not quite what I expected.

Scrooge referred to Louie and Webby as 'my kids' in this episode (and Webby isn't even related to him); I loved that!

I kinda liked the living mummies being motivated not by abstract ideas of freedom, which they'd have no context for having lived in a feudal society (and a relatively peaceful one, from all appearances) for millennia, but by materially quantifiable goals, getting to eat food other than the malnourished vegetables they've been surviving on, something they can understand. It oddly feels more realistic for a rebellion of a sheltered, backward, captive people than immediately taking to rhetoric modern people living in democratic countries would be used to. It just feels more nuanced especially given the franchise's history of having somewhat stereotyped, often downright unfortunately offensive depictions of native and indigenous peoples, even when Scrooge himself treats them with respect. (and, infamously, he sometimes doesn't)

I like the design of the natives in this episode, mostly because their species, jackals and hawks, are the species of part of the forms of two of the most well-known Egyptian gods, Ra and Anubis. I also like their clothing, most of all how the bandages wrap around their head in a sort of hood look.

The burrito thing is played for laughs, but it's actually genius. We're given a look at the food situation inside the temple and when you really think about what that would mean for the people eating that way, Launchpad's roach-coach burrito would be a revelation. They aren't fighting for burrito's, they're fighting for food: good food and Enough food. It's also a solid reality check for the ducks (and the viewer) that trying to start a revolution in a foreign society isn't just inappropriate, it's futile, unless something is genuinely fundamentally wrong.

The lack of adventure episodes is actually the fault of Disney, they scrambled up the original airing order of the episodes... And other episodes are actually pretty 'adventur-y' if you ask me...

Fun Fact: Neil Kaplain said during a Voltron podcast that Cree Summers, the VA behind a lot of the mummies in this episode, absolutely loves burritos and always eats in the booth. With that in mind, the mummy uprising is ten times as funny.

Hey man really like the video, have you though about Scrooge relationship with webby ? I mean it's rare for Scrooge to show affection , but he really looks worried about her in the episode, also it's really cute how in the old series he us to call her webby "darling" so even she isn't actually blood family he cares for her.
@KingOfElectricNinjas

Webby was raised in Scrooge's mansion by his housekeeper, so he's seen her grow up even if he hasn't been particularly involved in her life up til now. Makes sense that he feels protective of her, and has had a little more time to let himself open up to basically the substitute for the grandchildren he never had.

Disney XD's stupidity actually made them scramble the episodes order for holiday promotions. That's why the globetrotting aspect of the show has been wonky so far. Might be a good idea to rewatch the show in production order, so that the storyline can flow better

6:58 A Show while it’s on break from new episodes for over a month while in the middle of a season is not a Hiatus. That refers to while a show’s production is on halt, but not ended. What went on during the last season of Phineas & Ferb is an example of what a show being on hiatus is.

I'm sure we'll see more traditional DuckTales adventures as the show goes on. We are only 9 episodes in after all. They can still make any changes they want at this point. I for one love the direction they're taking it in so far.

Ok thus far Huey saw a dead mummy and a dragon statue come to life,a pirate ghost,a frog demon and a living headless horse. At this point if he continues being dismissive of the supernatural , I am going to call bullshit
@KingOfElectricNinjas
@KingOfElectricNinjas 7 жыл бұрын
It's not that he doesn't believe in the supernatural despite seeing it, but that he tends towards Occam's Razor when it comes to things he hasn't seen yet. Especially since he's aware of Scrooge having foiled various Scooby-Doo esque hoaxes, and there's even one in the episode itself. (kinda)
@InoMercy
@InoMercy 7 жыл бұрын
But that's kinda who Huey is. For him seeing is believing; and if their isn't any factual proof that something exists, he won't believe it does until he sees it himself. Take the Terrafermians. Until he saw them himself, the only evidence Huey to their existence was a guide book Webby made. And Webby's kinda nuts, so despite everything he's seen up til this point, he isn't inclined to believe her over the Jr. Woodchuck Guide book.
@SgtTwilight
@SgtTwilight 7 жыл бұрын
Let's put it like this. Let's say, you see a dragon in real life flying, clear as day, it's a dragon. You will logically start believing in dragons, but does that mean you'll believe absolutely every myth you ever hear? I doubt it. I believe in UFOs and aliens, but does that mean I believe every alien encounter story I read about? Of course not.

It was neat in this episode where Scrooge called The Pharaoh Monster a Bandaged Bampot (it sounded like bandit, but Scrooge was actually using Scottish Slang), much like in the Original DuckTales where he called a Mummy in the episode called “Sphinx for Memories” a Bandaged Brute.

I wonder if they did this because Indiana Jones style treasure hunts are actually terrible archaeology, which is a real and very rigorous science, and people are becoming more aware of this fact. Also, classic archaeology was super racist, and more people are becoming aware of THIS fact. Before Disney bought Marvel, the DuckTales comic, published by Boom! Studios, actually dealt with these issues in a run they titled “Rightful Owners,” in which Webby questions the morality of Scrooge’s life of pillaging the cultural heritage of sovereign people’s all over the world. It’s much more entertaining, and less preachy than I’ve made it sound.

You keep mentioning this as the first globetrotting episode, but Does the Gladstone episode not count as Globetrotting? They were in China(?)
@SgtTwilight
@SgtTwilight 7 жыл бұрын
Gladstone Gander took place in Macaw, which is supposed to be Macau. While it was in another country, it was pretty much elusively set in a tourist trap casino anyway, which hindered its "globetrotting adventure" atmosphere.
@seaniccus
@seaniccus 7 жыл бұрын
I had to cut the line why I didn't include this (sometimes things just break the flow... Or you mispronounce words into other words haha) but consider it covered under "mostly" when I say mostly close to home. MaCaw was another city, but we didn't see much of the destination. It was a pit stop on a real Globetrot we didn't see -- to the temple of the golden cricket. I will admit tho, you are technically correct. The best kind of correct.
@KingOfElectricNinjas
@KingOfElectricNinjas 7 жыл бұрын
Technically it's an international adventure, but that it features a member of the Duck-McDuck extended family, mostly focuses on character interactions and the banality of civilisation as a backdrop, it's not quite the same as going off the grid to an unknown place where you have no idea what to expect.

me too. i actually enjoyed Quack Pack, because of this. though the humor of this show was a bit too over-the-top, in my opinion. it's like they took the humor from Timon and Pumbaa and pasted it into Quack Pack... and it didn't really work that well. but some social commentaries of some episodes were pretty nice. like the episode about Donald being the star of a reality-show and how the fame got to his head and how the producers secretly planned to kill him off, just for TV-Viewership

The one thing i didn't like on these last episodes is that they're overusing Launchpad. I never really like his character and the reason why i think he is good on the first episodes is because he didn't had much screen time. Launchpad could easily be replaced by Donald, wich will be way more funnier. Honestly... Launchpad is pretty much useless and didn't need to exist in this show.

I was wondering what felt off about this episode, despite it guest-starring Cree Summer (one of my favorite voice actresses of ALL TIME tyvm) You spelled it out nicely; the subversions. There are just a few too many for my liking. I dug The Beagle Birthday Massacre and Terror of the Terra-Firmians, because while each episode WAS a ton of fun, it felt like the stakes were real, and you have the looming threat of Magica in the background whenever Lena's onscreen. I never felt like anyone was in real danger during Terror of Toth-Ra, except at the very end when Louie was finally cornered by Toth-Ra. Thoguh the Thriller number did give me some hope that we might...juuuuuust maybe...get a glimpse of Powerline in the Ducktales verse. Someone get Tevin Campbell on the phone NAOPLZKTHX.
