Jodi B. sure can sing. Only saw her on stage once, as Nellie Forbush in SP, which wasn't great casting. The best version of this song I've heard yet is from the "Howard Sings Ashman" recording, w. Ashman and Hamlisch playing & singing all the parts, to solo piano (don't know if Marvin H. is playing). That one has some musical details that really make the song, & no other version includes them. Don't know why they wouldn't keep them in the orchestration. A shame.

I think it’s both!!!! It’s in the vein of “Somewhere That’s Green” or of course, “Part of Your World”! Where it’s almost silly that she’s idolizing this place, but her motives are so sincere and beautiful that you can’t help but love and root for her 💖

Oops--To be accurate: Just remembered I also saw Ms. Benson as Marian in THE MUSIC MAN. Good production. She was OK; good singing but just not so great w. the acting, as w. SP. I like her fine on the CRAZY FOR YOU OBCR, but am glad I saw Karen Ziemba in the role. She had such charm & sparkle, & was fantastic in the dancing. From what I've seen, Jodi just doesn't have that spark that makes a star. To be fair, others say the same about Karen Z., who I think has it in spades. Differing tastes...
