Normally that would be the end of the story, but there is blame to go around and people trying to avoid it. Amandla Stenbergs instagram video is an incredible example of how people can jump through logical hoops to avoid taking any of that blame. And the mental state required to not comprehend what people are saying about your show, no matter how succinct they are. Is it a lack of desire to understand? Or a lack of physical ability? I think they themselfs think that they get away with everything because the current (or recent) trend is that they are so precious because of the checkboxes. In reality I expect as soon as the industry needs to adjust because they all lose tons of money, the consequences will hit REALLY hard. When it comes down to making money, having actors who are well received by fans, they won't be asked for at all. Must be great to have a bit of the spotlight but ruin your whole career with those moments. A smart person would use the current state of the industry and their chance (they maybe shouldn't have gotten) to give good performances and make a (positive) name for themselfs.

I mean Disney was promising a Star Wars movie annually but haven't made a film in five years, the last movie in the trilogy made half the money as the first, Solo lost money. A Star Wars film didn't make back it's budget, so they canned making movies, but they continue to make increasingly dumb TV shows, other than Andor, which like Rogue One is mostly filmed in the UK, where the film makers don't have Kathleen Kennedy micromanaging and ruining the material.

Amandla Stenberg's contribution to this train crash: 1. She stated "Nerds are gay in my world" in a pre-release interview. Since the potential audience consisted largely of nerds who are NOT gay, that was a huge insult. 2. She spent most of her screen time with zero emotion on her face. That is acceptable in a bus driver, and desirable in an astronaut, but for an actor it is failure to do the job. 3. She repeated Hollywood's narrative of "toxic fans" in this video, and in her cringe-twerking "diss track". The actual comments from those people are mostly reasonable critiques of writing, acting, casting etc. By spreading toxic propaganda, she further alienated the potential audience. I honestly think that you needed only two things, Amandla - HUMILITY and CHARISMA - to make the Acolyte a moderate success and gain a second season.

Hit the nail on the head for me. I’ve always been so confused about modern Star Wars. As a kid there was an obvious difference between someone who likes Twilight and someone who loves Star Wars. I loved Star Wars, fantasy war. My cousin loved twilight, fantasy romance. My cousin doesn’t give a shit about Star Wars. It feels like Disney took an IP that appealed to audience members like me, and tried to make it appeal to audience members like my cousin. It used to be that actors where able to see their characters viewpoint. But the last 70 years, many of them just do what they are told, without understanding why the character do what they do. We notice it now, because of them being on twitter. So their agent can not protect them. But, apparently, most actors have no idea why they do what they do. Example, Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and the majority of the star trek actors. Non of them understood their characters, so did not see how the new roles they played, destroyed the character they used to have. Or they did not care, as long as they got payed.
