Mood stabilizers saved us. My son is 9 now and doing great. With a LOT of patience, love, and time, he's come a long way. We have a great team and we are hopeful he'll have a happy fulfilling life.

@@Momosworld84 he was on risperidone for a very long time. He's grown a lot over the last 5 years and can't take that anymore due to side effects. At a higher dose, the medication has made him gain an unhealthy amount of weight. He has some issues with food because of his past food insecurity and the meds just made it worse. We are at 3 months with Abilify. He is doing well.

I know first had a out this DMDD My grandson was just recently diagnosed with this this past August and you're right they can go from 0 to 11 in a blink of an eye he stays irritable all day long and no matter how nice you are to them it doesn't seem to matter because they're always angry all day everyday and if they don't get they way look out hes punch wall throw his self down on the floor screaming and kicking like a two-year-old having a tantrum he's even try to fist fight everyone in the house

Robin Alcorn my nephew was just diagnosed with this. He’s only 6 years old. He only has these behaviors at school and daycare.

@@hotward2000 I believe part of the diagnosis requires that the child displays the behavior in different settings.

@@hotward2000 what strategies does the school use to help?
@hotward2000
@hotward2000 4 жыл бұрын
@@liyubi they try to group students accordingly to ensure that they receive the one on one attention that they need. Most individuals that have been diagnosed with this such condition will have an IEP or a 504 and the strategies will be listed in there. Those strategies could include identifying the triggers, removing the trigger, counseling , cool down periods etc. however, all of it was rubbish with my nephew. He was removed from the environment that he was once in and he has made a total 360. I would be able to talk further but not on here. 🤐

I've now watched your videos from A.D.H.D, O.D.D, C.D. & now this new DX. As a parent, I would appreciate you doctors discussing something that's extremely hard for all of us to address regarding adolescents and early teens. One behavior that's "beyond social norms" and extremely dangerous and self-sabotaging is sexual promiscuity. Thank you for all your information. I really enjoy you guys!

as a teen who experiences recklessness, and i have DMDD, i can say that sometimes it is a suicidal thing, which is not always the case. Sometimes it’s also feeling power over the world, and control issues. Other times it’s trauma that can make it so the teen wants to suppress it by doing these behaviors because they want to feel better, or sometimes feel they need a break from reality. (this was just my view, and my opinion, but i’m just sharing :))

i got diagnosed in a mental institution at age 15. Id rather not call it that because of the fact it doesn’t feel like it would fit me. I just call it “yeah the doctors don’t wanna put the label of bipolar on me, so i have a mood disorder”

Great podcasts this week on disruptive behaviors (I’m sure I’m behind, sorry :-). I just watched one on DMDD by the CRG/Children’s Resource Group with very similar information. I have a question though: When we talk about the child being in a bad mood or right on the cusp all the time, does that include when they are with their friends as well or mainly at home with their family? Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

It is ALL the time. Friends are very difficult to keep when you hit them when they don't play the way you want. Not a preferred dinner... we were looking at screaming, hitting, death threats...from a four year old. We had knives and scissors locked up. All outside doors had alarms, window had finger locks. He's 9 now, with medication, being homeschooled, and having a great therapeutic team. He's doing great. Still has anger outbursts, and definitely a fight first kinda kid, but it's manageable. We're hoping to transition him back to public school maybe next school year
