Just upload the single first, and then upload the entire album (including the single) as a separate release. Once the full release is in stores, you can choose to leave the single, or remove it and only have the album version available. Note: If you use your existing ISRCs (you need to have the Musician Plus or Label plan to do so), the exact same audio file as in your original upload, same metadata (track titles, artist name, etc.) this might help retain play counts/playlists for the single in some stores. Nothing that we (or stores) can guarantee, however.

I get that the preview start time clip can be chosen by the artist, however, how long does that preview clip go for on Tiktok, iTunes, etc? Does it start from that time and go till the end of the song or is there a specific time frame? Is that time frame different for different places?

You can select where in the song the preview is and I believe the store determines the length of the preview. You just get it to start where you want.

Yeah they send emails to me whenever it is live on the stores. This is what they expect wait times to be. iTunes/Apple Music: 1-7 days or sooner. Often same-day. A small percentage of albums go through manual review at Apple, which takes an additional 16 business days. Spotify: Up to 5 days Amazon: 2-4 days Pandora: 1-2 weeks (curated, though) Deezer: 1-2 weeks

So I have 5 tracks that I want to upload Distrokid. Some of the songs were recorded as one track. But I want to separate some of these tracks into separate tracks making the total of 8 tracks to make an album. Can I do that while uploading the tracks to Distrokid or would I have to cut tracks before submission? Also if I did have to separate each track myself would there be a time delay moving from track when finally submission

Yeah they won’t cut it for you they just post as it’s uploaded. For the time delay you would have to test it by playing 2 songs back to back and see if it delays it. I’m not sure.

I have a video breaking down royalties that will help but to answer your questions if you use a distributor like Tunecore or DistroKid and BMI or ASCAP then you are collecting some of the money earned from streaming and downloads. Songtrust is a admin publisher and they collect publishing for you. Sound Exchange collects non interactive streaming royalties kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6WqhpqleMdjgas You can only collect from ACAP OR BMI not both because they both collect the same royalties.

I still feel that CDBaby is cheaper.. I heard about the legacy option (or whatever) but still not convinced on changing to DK. Specially after seeing that they charge an additional .99 cents per year to be on Shazam and Siri, thats pretty lame. I'm sure that the reports would be from the 20 dollar account (basic) which I can live with but again.. I would only switch to DK once I start blowing up and generating some real numbers with my music.. Also, I did not see anything on UPC or ISRC codes, did I accidentally skip that part?

Took a quick look on CDbaby and they take a 9% commission on digital sales. I'm not a fan of giving up a % so I wouldn't go that route personally. And it would come down to how much music you plan to release per year. If it's 1 or 2 songs then CDBaby might be better for you but more than that and it gets expensive paying $9 per single release.

I mean I have little to no following but am using the fact that my music is on Spotify since people seem to really like that. Point being is that I haven't even made close to $200 dollars (9% of that would be 18 dollars) and I'm almost reaching 1 year...... My low numbers aside, it would not benefit me to pay 20 dollars a year (let alone $35 a year which is what I would go for) for the time being. I am also not releasing singles until I start getting a bigger following as it would not make sense to do so, which is why I mentioned that I would switch to DK once I start getting more followers. I do hate paying yearly fees though, probably as much as you hate giving up %, the music industry is one fickle bitch my friend. All the best!

Thanks, no you just need DistroKid and they send out the music to all stores you select. They setup a Spotify page for you so no need to do any of that on your own. They have links to Spotify for artists that you can use to setup and see your analytics

Understand that Spotify do a check if its -14 and I guess other do so to. Is this option any useful? It cost some money. Im on last step to upload my song. It been some work but fun to learn new things.

@@paullekman7690 you probably won’t want to do -14 LUFS as a target. That is just their level they shoot for so everyone sounds the same level. But they do that and you can turn it off as a listener. So I and all the major artists are at full level so closer to -10 to -7 LUFS.

If it is a Topic channel that DistroKid created for you to place your music you can't manage it. You would post any music videos you make on your own channel and manage them there.

I use a different service for content ID and I don’t want a KZbin topic account so I don’t select it.

I believe to use the split feature everyone needs their own account. If you want to have only 1 account you would get paid then split it yourselves.

Hi mate, few months ago, someone launched my song on their KZbin channel, so they got the copyrights and they launched my song on distrokid as well. Now I am myself trying to upload my new song on distrokid and my name already appears on the Spotify. It shows my previous song. So what should I do now?

That sucks that someone did that. On DistroKid when you do the Spotify search if you find your name like you mentioned then select that so your new song goes to your account

Hey Shawn, can u see the ISRC and UPC code of your songs on the Distrokid dashboard? (I mean of the songs u have already uploaded).....This is in case one wants to move it to another distributor later?

Yeah each song has the ISRC and UPC codes. ISRC comes in handy for several things when registering music for royalty collection.

Does the artwork need to be a certain MB size? There's another distribution service that only allows images that are smaller that a certain MB.

Album cover jpg, .png or .gif extension optimal is perfect square optimal size is 3000x3000 That is all it says
