His live concert version, where he speaks about addiction and depression is so powerful. He asks people if they are someone who battles these, or knows someone who battles it, and to raise their hand. Then he brings the lights up and you see all the hands up.....and says that we are not alone. Hits hard. I'm one of those 70 year olds who are impacted by this band. I listen every day, he's helping me to cope.

IT IS A MUST TO WATCH A REASON TO FIGHT THE OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO. Yes, indeed, I said it over and over again and I am not ashamed to admit it. Disturbed and their music are one of the main reasons I am alive today. Listening to them I found my reasons to fight way before they came out with this song. All of their music has meaning and when I was ready to give up and leave this life they showed me how to cope and gave me a new way to see my life. Their music saves lives and that is a fact.

I lost my oldest son to an overdose in 2011. He was 22. He was a huge Disturbed fan. At times it’s difficult for me to listen to their music - 10 seconds into “Hold On to Memories” I’m a blubbering mess and this one is hard too - but the songs are incredibly powerful and lyrically beautiful. I’ve enjoyed watching your journey and appreciate the manner in which you’re progressing through their vast collection of songs. I hope somewhere on your list in the not-too-distant future will be “Inside the Fire”. It’s another one that’s hard to watch, the video is very intense, but the song is one of their best, IMO.

Disturbed as a band, care about what happens to people and really try to help them! They are aware of so many going through depression, suicide and addictions of all kinds. David has written so many lyrics about just those things. It's hard for me to request the next song....as I know them all (and have for about 25 years....lol). I think you might want to try the"The Game", as it is more middle of the road....not as heavy as some. If you want another ballad..."Uninvited Guest"....very slow. Thanks Taylor Fam!!

I'm very happy that you're enjoying Disturbed. I grew up listening to them and they remain my favorite band to this day. Some other solid songs that don't go full metal yet are Uninvited Guest and Overburdened, the former addresses the haunting memories of someone you've lost that you can't bring yourself to let go of, and the latter sings of the lament of a fallen soldier waiting in line to the gates of hell, wondering why he's there and if his sacrifice meant anything.

I definitely agree that down with the sickness needs to be worked up to, especially the version that emphasizes the abuse. One of the harder songs that absolutely hits like a truck emotionally is Inside the Fire, but be warned it's dealing with suicide, and it's not hidden in the video. It hits hard for me because i was introduced to suicide at 7, fought against it for another 8 years, then have repeatedly been in the place to help people with the same fight. this song came out while I was working with a younger girl who had been abused and was contemplating suicide to escape it. I helped get her out of the situation, but also lost contact. I hope she found her way through from there, and pray for her every time the song shows up. It's not a hopeful song like the others you've listened to. it is 100% from the perspective of those dark thoughts. any time i'm working with someone who's contemplating suicide I come back to it just to make sure to bring those emotions back and help relate.

I know you've said you’re trying to work your way up from slower, less intense Disturbed songs up to their harder stuff, but, honestly, there’s not a huge jump left from what you’ve already listened to. In fact, I thought it was bold choice to listen to Land of Confusion considering some of the more graphic parts of the music video, but you didn’t seem to mind. I know Land of Confusion was a song you already knew and liked before you ever listened to the cover, but that song isn’t much more mellow than some of the ones you’ve chosen to hold off from. And, honestly, as long as swearing doesn’t bother you, you should be fine to listen to Down with the Sickness by this point (that said, though, I do think it’s really important that when you’re ready to listen to it, you listen to the music video version and NOT the studio version or a live version. The studio version is one I would continue to hold off on until you've listened to a ton of their music and have made a conscious decision to hear it. There’s a verse that is taken out of the music video version that makes even my blood run cold to listen to, and I really like Disturbed already. I know the message is metaphorical…and I’m sure David’s mother is a very lovely woman…but it still makes my blood go cold. So, if you listen to Down with the Sickness, choose the music video and not the album version). I completely get it if you want to keep holding off on it though. It definitely is heavier than most of the other things you’ve listened to by them so far, just not by as much as I think you’re assuming it is. If I had to make a recommendation of what to listen to next (whether it's for a reaction video or just for yourself so you can hear a "next step" song), I’d probably pick You’re Mine. There’s no music video for it, but it’s a heavier song that still has the positive message that you’re used to hearing so far from the band. It’s a song that David wrote for his wife. It’s slightly heavier than the other songs you’ve listened to, but it’s sweet. I’m not sure what other songs have been recommended to you in the comments, but one I would stay away from for a while is called Inside the Fire. Don’t get me wrong-it’s one of my all-time favorite Disturbed songs, but it’s heavy…and I don’t necessarily mean the sound. It’s a song David wrote to cope with childhood trauma, and it’s dark. The song is really catchy, but the meaning behind it is harrowing. (Trigger warning for anyone else reading this comment: suicide) If you ever decide to watch it, I’d first watch the video called “Disturbed on the Background of Inside the Fire” (video duration 4:39) so you know what you’d be getting yourself into. The song is sung from the perspective of that proverbial devil-over-your-shoulder that was telling David to kill himself after his girlfriend took her life. It’s also worth noting that there are two versions of the video-the actual version (with the time stamp of 5:00 because there’s a disclaimer at the beginning) and the “amended” version that I’m assuming was made for those who might have gone through similar trauma and would be unable to stomach the original version. The “amended video” is 3min 54 seconds. It’s a great song, but the original video is jarring, to say the least. They just released a new album a few days ago, so I'd imagine you could be getting an influx of recommendations. I'm still working through all the new songs myself, so I don't have suggestions from the new album yet, but Bad Man is damn catchy! It's very overtly political--not sure if that's something that is off-putting for you, but there's a music video out for that one already. It's a really artistically-driven video. The song itself is definitely on the heavy end of their music--It would be a sizable leap from what you've heard so far.
@aprilwoods3894 Жыл бұрын
Incredible! I agree with those saying the live video is worth it. It's amazing how many people this song has touched. I know you aren't too into the hard stuff yet. So, I would recommend "Darkness". It's a ballad from one of their earlier albums - Believe (2002). David's voice is haunting. The way his voice just drops into the pocket perfectly on "everything", the way the violin comes in to ease the tension buildup from the discordant guitar at the end of the 2nd chorus. It's really unforgettable. There's no video, only audio. And, it's FAR too short, 3 mins & change. I would've been happy with another 2 or 3 verses as I wasn't ready for it to end. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWSwgnWNpN1ngKs Also, I just recently saw an old interview where David discusses the fact he has a deviated septum. Which is a trait Barbra Streisand shares. I'll bet that's one of the possible reasons for his incredibly pure tone and clarity. They both share that otherworldly something extra special in their voices. Anyway, thought you might like to hear one of their earlier ballads before you jumped into the harder stuff.
