I’m a 63 yr old Gramma, and my kids turned me on to Disturbed about 14 yrs ago, I’ve been hooked since. I listen to metal, have since I was a kid myself. But I found another genre I enjoy, screamo , and I have a couple of favorites there. Escape The Fate is my run to favorite, and Ronnie Radke. I like Dead Rabbits too. Ronnie redid a song last year I think, titled, The Drug in Me is You, reimagined. You would probably like it, it would be great to see you react to both versions. And too me Escape The Fate doesn’t do anything bad lol. Thanks for your reactions on Disturbed’s Sound of Silence.

David is such a humble man. He practiced for this appearance. And yes, there are "auto tune" moments. But he was so in control of his vocals. This performance was better than his video version. He pushed himself to a limit. Just like he has done on tour. Total athlete. Met him in Tampa, FL many years ago. He was soft spoken and polite. David is a true gentleman.

I've heard that Disturbed specifically makes their music so that the songs live sound like the album. They feel if they can hit a note or do something reliably or repeatability they won't put it in the song. And when the lead singer of disturbed found out that they auto tuned part of this song in post he was pissed.

You can keep the imagery from the studio version,... this live version, he is putting himself out on an island, no studio tricks...what you see is what you get. Stunning performance. One of the Top Three live performances of all-time. The silence you speak of after the music stops is called , "The Perfect Silence". Performers yearn for that. It's that brief amount of time that the audience is so captivated by the performance, then snap out of it to applaud.

Putting aside his extraordinary voice and the brilliance of both versions there was someting in the live version I noticed right away that gave me extra chills..... The way he drops and softens "fell" at the end of "....but my words, like silent raindrops 'fell' " and the way he drops and softens "halls" at the end of " ..written on the subway walls and tenement 'halls' " were astounding. For what reason these were done I don't know and don't care because it truly doesn't matter. Both versions have their own amazing imagery....they are polar opposite which to me proves how special a song and performance can be when both are executed brillantly. My favorite...the live...b/c nothing beats the experience of a live performance that knocks it out of the park ESPECIALLY within such an intimate space. Yes, to everyone that is recommending Hold Onto Memories..... I love both...again different imagery yet both powerful....I'm going with the live version but watch both. Watch out b/c you're going to cry.

I personally think we can't really completely compare the 2 as they're 2 totally different beasts. Both phenomenal pieces of art. One is studio tweaked yes but that's always going to happen to get the best track out. Live is in one take. They're equally good as each other though you can say live is better considering how sick he was but if he did this well sick and live then just how much tweaking did the studio version really need. To me they're 2 different beasts but equally absolutely bloody amazing.

Most heavy rock and roll singers manage quite well screaming out words, but David has a way to sing/scream them out effortlessly in tune, all the while have not one but two tympani drums trying to drown you out! I wish he would do more songs like this as I melt whenever I hear it, but don't really care for the "heavy" songs they do as a band in general.

I have been a Disturbed fan since their frist album. I got a chance to see them live right before they dropped their second album. Even though they were not the headliner band they preformed like they were. They are a band that gives everything they got live. I was presently surprised when they did this cover and still have this song a staple on my Playlist. I think it cemented the power of David's vocal range and true dedication to his craft for people outside of the metal/hard rock fan group. Most don't appreciate how much skill goes into metal vocals. As for a favorite version I love the live!

This is my favorite song of all time...the Disturbed version I should say. I appreciate both of their versions equally because the visuals with the studio version enhance the storytelling but the live version has its own power and knowing he was extremely sick and still managed to pull it off gives it even more weight. I have watched so many reaction videos of both versions...I love seeing people be as enthralled with it as I was the first time I heard it and I cry when they cry. And their latest Album "Evolution" is the first one, with the "new" style the band implements, which is a mixture of heavy metall and also more quiet songs. My favorites are: "Hold on to memories", and "A reason to fight", when it comes to the more quiet songs. And "are you ready" and "down withe sickness" when it comes to the heavier songs. Like a lot of others, I prefer the live version, but that's saying a lot, because I love the studio one. Apparently, he was sitting the whole time during this performance because he was so sick he couldn't even stand. That's incredible to me. And I know what you mean when you said in the studio reaction that you were worried watching the Pentatonixc one. It seems like by turning a classic song like Sound of Silence into a rock song is going to be like an act of sacrilege or something. LOL But it's not, it absolutely worked. Both versions do.

Google David and check out his amazing background. I tend to like darker versions of songs, a picture of a street that appears to be London at night. Not too foggy. Damp cobblestones, etc. I like both versions. The dark setting of the live version with the blue and candles. Both my boys insist they never brought this song to my attention. I like the live version more for a number of reasons: - it feels more intimate (like you mentioned) - the instrumentals are a bit more decent so there's more focus on his voice - the parts "people bowed and prayed ... neon god they made" sound a bit more angry and rough than in the studio version - you see that there is nothing artifical, autotuned or post-edited, because it's really live

When I listen to the studio version I love it best then I hear the live one I like that best. I do know one thing, both versions give me the shivers every time I hear them! ❤️❤️❤️
