• Disturbed - The Sound...
Do you want to have fun? Huh? I caannn'ttt HEARRRR you!
All I hear is the sound of silence.
It really Disturbs me too.
Well, anyway....the reason this is such a fun reaction is that I am going to react with this old lady to the Disturbed cover of "Sound of Silence" then we are going to watch and react to the original version in Black and White from Simon and Garfunkel. Oh, my goodness it is fun guys. You must watch it all the way to the end. It is an absolute must-watch.

I knew the original version, but frankly it feels like 2 different songs. Simon & Garfunkel sound ... "Cute", I never really paid attention to the meaning of the lyrics. David (from Disturbed) gives meaning and intensity to every word he says. It gains so much more impact with his delivery.

As a 72 year old woman whose husband was in Vietnam, I have definitely heard Simon & Garfunkle's original song many, many times. This was huge during that war. When I fist began watching KZbin about 10 years ago, this was one of the songs I first watched and thought that I could never like it any more than I did at that time. (I loved the fact that it was easy to actually hear all the lyrics.) I was wrong. Disturbed's version just blew me away. I felt much more emotion with Disturbed version. Bravo! Bravo!

It was shortly after JFK was killed. The sing was written. I remember the silence. But it was the sixties. Many great songs from that time. The eve of destruction. Or the needle and the damage done. Yes we hear. But we certainly don't listen.

I agree.. for a song with such depth and meaning, I felt the .message was lost because it was too rushed and felt meaningless! I think through the years as SIMON and Garfunkel matured in their own musical talents, and even their own understanding of the songs message, they improved greatly on it! Beautiful harmony andover the acoustics , but at the end of the day, I still love Disturbed version much better.. Both are great in their own rights!

If you liked it, you should definitely react to their live version from the Conan O'Brien show. Despite being sick that day, lead singer David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Conan celebrated the video of their performance as it was the first video from his show to get 100 million views.

I really thank you for your response. Yes, life can be brutal. We were introduced to it’s brutality when we, as young men (as teenagers) made the first official landing of troops in a third world country called Vietnam. A few of us survived, but more lost their lives. This happened only a few months after the song was first released. This rendition was not full of peace and flowers as Simons, it didn’t need to be. The responses you’ve gotten, from followers shows controversy in a positive way. I hope we heed the warning, and change our outlook on life. I believe there is still hope. Thank you Simon and thank you David, and thank you for being exactly who you both are. - Joe Redfeather -

So... storytime. My 70+ mum basically came running to me one day telling me all about this new song she had heard on the radio and how good it was. She didn't know by whom, she didn't remember the title just said it was silence something. Some time went by and then it came on the radio when we were together and again she was all Ohhh, it's this one, this is the song, listen to this song! It was this one she meant. It's so funny how I had to tell her that she already knew the song but the Simon and Garfunkle version. She hadn't connected the two until I made her compare them. Needless to say but I love this song. Both the original and this one. And this version gives me chills too. Again, I'm not one of the youngsters on here even if this song came out before my time. But I have their "best of" album. Simon and Garfunkel did great music.

Like many other reactors, you mention that the voice becomes stronger starting with the third verse. What almost no one seems to recognize is that he jumps up a full octave (displaying the very wide range of his voice). It is the higher tone, along with volume, that makes the song get more and more dramatic.

I was born in 1998 and grew up listening to the original Simon & Garfunkel version of “The Sound of Silence,” and it was one of my favorites as a child. Disturbed was playing a concern near my hometown in Ohio in highschool and I went with my friends. They played this song, fire erupted from the stage, a storm was brewing throughout the concert and lightning hit (literally) when this song was introduced... and I already knew the words, but they felt powerful and god-like in that moment. I’ll never forget when everyone crowded into the pavilion and raised their arms, and truly related to the words that were sang so long ago by a new voice. It was special.

Simon and garfunkel's version is too light and wispy.Paul's lyrics are much better served by the heavy, iconic, vocal performance and dramatic symphonic arrangement of disturbed, in my opinion. The words are much darker than the elemental instrumentation and presentation of Simon and Garfunkel The lyrics and melody of Paul's song are now given the due they deserve.

I was married with kids and heard both '64 and the new '65 version.... which I thought was much better. Paul Simon wrote a message in that song. I grew up in the 60's and always loved Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence". When my son showed me Disturbed's music video of their cover of it, it just reached into my soul! I am SO glad you reacted to the music video rather than the live version-- which is great, but it's the visuals of the video that make it SO powerful! Now, react to Pentatonix' cover of the Sound if Silence. If you are not familiar with Pentatonix, they are 5 person a capella group that will absolutely blow you away. All three versions are masterpieces in their own right, so it's not a matter of one being "better" than another. They are all different, but equally powerful. Great reaction!

Fun! A combination reaction. A "two-fer" :D I love the song. I love who wrote it but I have to say, the only version for me from now on is by Disturbed. This song deserves the powerful voice behind a powerful message. If "People talking without listening" doesn't describe today's social situation, I don't know what would.

Yea, Paul Simon wrote it back in the sixties and he was so ahead of his time. He saw the t.v. ruining people even back then when it was new. Of course, the writer was a genius, but even Paul himself said that the Disturbed version is the way it should have been sung all along. So cool.

Also, whether or not you believe in spirit guides, I recently discovered that I am blessed to have some and decided to start listening to them. They actually led me to Disturbed and David Draiman on KZbin and their cover B&W 4K video of Simon and Garfunkels The Sound of Silence. My spirit guides are screaming at me to tell all of you that if we lose our Democracy we will lose our freedom to listen to the music of our choice like Disturbed! If THEY can ban our books, THEY can ban/outlaw our music 🎶! Love you all, Diane ❤

Yea, I got something different out of the video. I love music for that reason. I didn't see it as sad. I saw it as people who were writing songs that voices never share, and no one dared to disturb the sound of silence. Then some musicians came up who played those songs. I love that video.

In the original, the message in the lyrics, is too upbeat, and folksy. Nobody REALLY listened to the WARNING. In Disturbs version you hear, and feel each, and every word. It's almost like Paul Simon Warned us, and we didn't listen. Disturbed is reiterating the WARNING, but PISSED OFF bcuz we didn't heed it. WE BETTER HEED IT!

I saw Simon & Garfunkel on a video when they were much older and they still had a great sound between them. Harmony was wonderful. Disturbed's rendition was like a 2023 version of 1964 song. The Official Video has a wonderful moving Black & White of the way these word's would play out on a screen. Until I saw the video, I was less aware of the impact. The people on one island had the sheet music they wrote but no one sang or played their music, and the other group had the instruments, which maybe they had no music to play. The video starts out with all the instruments being trashed and junked. I have watched that video probably 30 times now. Powerful video! We were warned in 1964 and now once again, this powerful voice has warned us what has happened to us in 59 years.

I grew up with the original version, and still like it a lot, but the tempo was a little too fast, it was a little too bright and cheerful, and it never really made me hear the word. Disturbs version, while being respectful to the original, forced me actually hear the words.

If you don't know them, you have to meet the best male and female TODAY!!! The undisputed best male singer in the world is "DIMASH"!! Sings S. O. S. a french song and Sinful Passion. With many others. He is 26 from Kazakhstan. e sings in 12 languages and has a range from Bass to a D 8 so high it's not on a piano. What can he sing? ANYTHING? The female is Korean, her name is "So Hyang" she does not sing for money or fame. In fact, SONY has tried to sign her for 15 years. She sings for the comfort of the people. Ovarian and uterine cancer when she was 21 and survived, so it's for to and because of the Lord. I go back to Dolly Parton so I know but Whitney is an ICON, however rules, law, and records are meant to be broken. Check out I Will Always Love you, along with another Korean KPOP singer named "Ailee" both sing I Will Always Love You very excellent!! So Hyang also sings Lean on Me with Michael Bolton watching her. "Arirang Alone" is a 600-year folk song she re-arranges and blows everybody away. Want more? All this time nobody could compete with Barbara Streisand with the song Memory from the Broadway show Cats that is until now enter So Hyang. You Raised Me Up etc. Enjoy!!

By now you have seen and experienced the Conan Show performance. If not, you should just for the experience of a 20-piece orchestra behind David which gives the song a different feeling. I am 76 and grew up with Simon & Garfunkel. I never understood the song until about a year ago when I heard Disturbed's cover and then the Conan Show performance. I would like to have the studio version video and the Conan Show audio on a DVD.

Simon and Garfunkel created the song, Disturbed perfected it! Try a song called 'Hurt'. Listen to the Johnny Cash cover version. The original is a band called Nine Inch Nails. Mr Cash borrows it, covers it, then makes it his own!

I love the original, but this one is just so much more powerful! It's more emotional and there's much more intricacy with it. Also, coming from a teen, I dont mind the pausing at all! This is a reaction, that's what's supposed to happen. If people are that irritated, then they should probably just watch the original video instead

Yes, I agree the Disturbed video is now taking up the torch as the best version of today. Also, yes, I think someone should not listen to a reaction if they just want to hear the song. Or, else they should let the world of reactors know that before hand. Maybe put instructions on the original video so reactors know they should not pause it. Don't complain after the fact. Lol Great comment.

With almost 600 million views, this is massively the best performance ever. The best vocal, best video, wayyy better than the original. It cuts right through my soul. I watch and listen to this song on repeat, when I wake up in the morning, to and from work, when I get home, and I watch 3-5 reactions before I go to sleep, then the next day, I do it all over again everyday in the last 3 weeks since I found it in the Netflix movie called Into the Badlands. David Draiman, you are addicting to listen to. Where have you been all this time? I hope you keep on giving us gifts like this one. I'm now your #1 fan!
