I'm a 42 year-old man and when I heard it for the first time I was in the back of the parts store I worked at. After the song ended I went straight to the bathroom and balled like a baby. I'm divorced and miss my family and that song hit me deep down inside.

I cry all the time when I hear this song and not ashamed to admit it. This song seems like it was the perfect mixture of vocal quality, music and visuals all come together to produce one of the best songs ever made. Seems so perfect as it just draws the emotions out of us and its not even necessarily a very sad song but still very emotionally powerful.

Nobody but nobody is unmoved by this. If you haven't heard the original version by Simon & Garfunkel I think you should check it out. Paul Simon wrote this in 1964ish..You heard the song but you didn't listen to the song. Paul Simon's version was the warning in 1965..Disturbed was the rage that no one listened and we are where we are today because people hear but they do not listen. Paul wrote about the future and it is here. Cell Phones..everyone's nose is in their phone. Internet , Remote everything, Video Games no one Listens anymore. Words of the Prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls. I knew when I hear Simon version he was trying to tell us things in 1965 I was 16 years old. Listen listen close , do not just hear Listen.

Boris D According to a interview I saw with Paul Simon he wrote this song as a protest about recording studios because they would not record and play his music. It was not a prophecy about the future. This was before he got together with Garfunkel. He was not protesting about cell phones, computers etc. That did not exist back then. If there is a connection to driving through areas where poverty existed he did not mention it in the interview I saw. Would not surprise me if that was part of his inspiration. Sound of Silance is one of those rare somewhere that will affect generations, past, present and future. I love Disturb's version. It affects people differently. A brilliant cover!!
@foxymacadoo4 жыл бұрын
I know you didn't but I see comments from several others concerning the song I thought I would mention it. So many others think the song was written about cell phones etc. When it was not. Did not mean to indicate that you did. Sorry :)
@larrybutler89484 жыл бұрын
@@foxymacadoo actually Motorola made a Prototype Cell Phone in 1915, but abandoned it as they were worried about interfering with wire devices. Computers were around in 1964 and many decades before. Charles Babbage is considered the Father of computers in the 1800's ..Where do the words come from that enter your mind? From Higher ups then you and I. I still stand with it is about Cell Phones, computers, Video Games etc etc etc.

Your emotions bring out everyone’s emotions. And that’s the wonderful thing about music. There are no boundaries, no color, no race. Just raw emotions. David Draiman literally remastered that song. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with the original. Sing/written by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Have a listen to that, and then return to this and you’ll see how he’s turned a folk song into a masterpiece.
