Oliver, I will fight you about Tom Sawyer Island. ;) Tom Sawyer Island was the best when I was a kid. It was a place where you could actually run around and play and not just be completely overwhelmed fighting the crowds in Fantasyland. My childhood-Disney-nostalgia is much quicker evoked when I think of running across the barrel bridges with the view of the Haunted Mansion across the river than with any memory of Fantasyland. And then even when I got older, I loved going to the island in the middle of the day and sitting on those rocking chairs that look out to Big Thunder Mountain. I think basically, if you're an introvert who wants to soak up Disney magic all day but also wants a quiet escape from the crowds for a bit, Tom Sawyer Island is the perfect answer.
@dlfendel28448 жыл бұрын
I think the attraction of the island is the rawness of it compared to the "neat" and "controlled" nature of the rest of the park. The chance for a kid to actually run in the dirt and get grass stains on his jeans is a contrast to the painted rocks and plastic trees beyond arms length elsewhere in the park. For that reason, it serves its purpose well. But I'm with Oliver re. the fumes from the rafts. They should switch to electric motors and fix that--there are compact modern ones for yacht dingy's around now that would do the job and last with simple battery recharge/swap techniques and solve the problem. They're quiet, too--nothing more raft-on-the-river-fantasy destroying than a wooden "raft" that goes putt-putt-roar-putt-putt! I wonder what Mark Twain would have said about that! :)

Oliver! I watched the video of your attempt to play SotMK! You cannot be judging SotMK on that one day. I admit, it's for geeks and nerds, those of use that most likely played Magic the Gathering, D&D, Pokemon and the like, and most mainstream folks don't get it. It's simple enough for kids, but its fun for adults too. This is on my husband's Top 5 things to do. It has different levels of difficulty, you can level up your cards, and you have to figure out which combinations of cards to play against particular villains. You can also purchase SotMK shirts that will boost the level of your cards! You are correct that there isn't much ROI and it does take some time, but we have discovered some amazing details and corners of the Kingdom that really added joy to our trip. Also, we have met fellow nerds and thoroughly enjoyed their company on our adventure. This game is a huge part of why our family now plans for 3 days in The Magic Kingdom. We really enjoy it and I think other families that enjoy similar card games (like Magic and Pokemon) would also enjoy it.

I'm sorry but it's boring. It's absolutely boring. I play Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons and this card game is just isn't thought out at all. It takes forever to complete "rounds" you're running around the park looking for your next little stop, you're not free to go to whichever place you want, it's pretty much the shitty version of Harry Potter interactive wands.

Seems to me what Disney used to be is---Disney, something SPECIAL and UNIQUE in the world which you just can't get anywhere else. The moment they put Starbucks in, whether in the park or elsewhere around the property, they are suddenly a fancier, more attraction filled version of the local mall. It isnt' about the quality of the coffee (which I agree is horrendous) nor about the price (EVERYthing is priced high-to-insane at WDW and they get away with it BECAUSE it is unique and special--and they have a captive audience more or less) but about the UNIQUENESS. Without it, Disney becomes one of several vacation destinations--whereas back when that mattered to management they were DISNEY, and then there was everybody else.

Space Mountain... ok, hear me out. As a Disneyland annual passholder of 16 years and cast member for 8, I wholeheartedly disagree. Walt Disney World's Space Mountain is far superior and it's the original one, take pride in it! First off, it's a MUCH more immersive experience in Orlando. The que is awesome, it's in a tunnel with very cool effects and in my opinion one the best Disney soundtrack ever, you can't really beat the star tunnel. Ours is just a chain que above the seeing eye theater in the sun for an hour. Secondly, the WDW space mountain is TWO roller coasters, unlike ours which is always a plus (Team Omega). the loading area feels much more like what a space port would be where it forks at the control tower with the giant ship on the actual chain lift rather than just hanging over the loading area. Third, the layout. Disneyland's space mountain is so boring. It only has ONE real drop about 2/3's through the ride and the entire thing is one giant helix, it's short and the music is the best part of the ride. WDW's space mountain is longer, it felt faster to me... I'm not to sure about the exact MPH. It has way more drops, and it just feels like a much better roller coaster to me, they aren't supposed to be smooth, you want to feel like your careening through space not in your car on the freeway. Lastly, when you talk about the overlays whether it be ghost galaxy or hyperspace. It's nothing special, it's just a projection on the walls and it's quite cheesy. I love star wars but it's just overkill with star tours down the way. Ghost Galaxy is the worst, i feel like Space Mountain is such a classic attraction, you can't imagine them doing that to other classics. Long time subscriber, keep doing what you're doing guys, again I apologize for the long post :)

@beltedkingfisher7 жыл бұрын
I would like to humbly disagree. SPACE MOUNTAIN IN DISNEYLAND IS A MUST RIDE AND TE STAR WARS OVERLAY IS AMAZING AND IF YOU THINK IT IS ONLY PROJECTIONS YOU ARE WRONG. AT THE ONLY "real drop" THEY HAVE AN ENEMY SHIP SHOOT LAZERS AT YOU THEN YOU DROP RIGHT BEFORE YOU HIT IT ITS SO COOL. The reason the WDW one feels faster is because they use fans placed around the track to make it feel faster. ALSO, a helix is one continuous circle going in te same direction, space mountain may have a lot of turns but you are switching directions and I know for a fact that the ride has at least 3 drops. It's not short, (about 2 minutes) and sure, the queue isn't the best but once you get inside its so cool!

My parents and me ate at Cinderella's Royal Table in about 2006-2007, and it wasn't as special as I expected. I dressed up really pretty (I was 18), and remembered to thank Cinderella for taking a picture, but the food was unmemorable. I did like the decor but otherwise, it was boring. As for the Swiss Family Robinson treehouse, it has a lot of history behind it, and is based on one of the best live action Disney films. Yes, it is hot and not very stimulating, but the history behind is what makes it enjoyable. Also, Tom Sawyer Island has a ton of history as well, its fun to explore! I did discover i have claustrophobia in one of the caves, but my dad adored it and would always sing praises of it. But of course, I haven't been to Disney since 2007 because of money issues, so a few of the things you guys mentioned I have not experienced. This is just Jade's opinion!

Probably only reason why I hate Stitch's great escape: I almost dislocated my shoulder from the seat's handlebars cause we sat in those couple of seats Stitch "jumps" on. The hydraulics on that ride really push down pretty far on the ride and probably would have pushed down on my shoulder in a way that could have possibly dislocated it (for context me and my mom were just messing around and annoying each other and the seatbelts locked just with my shoulder nudging out a bit). Pretty much had to use both my hands to push up against the handlebar so it didn't smack down on my shoulder-pretty sure I didn't break it but then again I don't think anyone would notice with the ride's current state

Barnaby Swift that is overrated remember it might be a small flying boat but it keeps going, but that's not the point of what I'm trying to say, see people are waiting hours on end to ride Peter Pan a roughly like 60 second ride. I already have been on Be-our-guest restaurant for I think 2 days before my birthday (summertime). The service was good and the choice of light was good. if you wanted a darker restaurant experience, you can. if you want a lighter restaurant experience you can. My only problem with this restaurant is the struggle for me to do a reservation. Took me 4 months to have a reservation

Hi Pete! Hope your having a wonderful day! I must say you are hands down the best critic ever! I swear we were related in are past life. Lol! Its nice to see someone that knows the difference between a clean nice hotel and a dirty one or good Italian food and not sauce that tastes like a tin can. Lol! I'm from Pennsylvania and we have some really good Italian restaurants. I've only been to Disney one time and that was with my sons school orchestra group in 2006. We had a magical time but it was a little stressful going with the school. So I'm so excited to be coming back this September with just my family. I've done so much research by watching your videos and I must say I agree with you 100% of the time. 🙂 I'm such a big foodie as in good tasting food and desserts and cannot wait to try some different restaurants this time. Im not trying to be rude to others, I just know the difference between a good hoagie or a bad one. Then you have your choice of a real turkey dinner or some lunch meat with gravy on a plate. So I'm so glad I found your videos on here. You are so good at your job! 😘 I'm not really into exotic foods like cow tongue, goat eyes or pig feet or anything like that. 😝 We're going to try flying fish, hoop de doo, and a couple others that I would like your opinion on. If you had to choose between Le cellier or the Yachtsman based just on the taste of the food (meaning steaks and sides ) which one would you choose? Then I was wondering what your thoughts were on California grills food and if you would choose to eat their during the fireworks or after? I would really appreciate your input!

I completely agree with Starbucks. I don't get it either and yes, the Joffrys coffee is better. I notice that once I had some at POP Century. As for overrated rides - Seven Dwarves Mine Train - I don't get why a 2 and a half minute ride that has two scenes from Snow White always has a 60 + minute wait. 2nd - Space Ranger Spin - The games are fun and all, but I don't get it. 3rd - Peter Pan's flight - what in the world (pun intended) is the appeal of this ride? Yes, it has scenes from Peter Pan. Yes it has a cool way to ride - but again - why the long wait? Those are my three, and I'm sure I'll get flamed for these choices, so have at it.

I kinda agree with the be our guest one because I had to basically sell my soul to checking every 1/2 hour for a reservation and I finally got one, it was obnoxious trying to get the reservation but it was totally worth it because the ambience was just amazing and the food was pretty good but I think they could either do another dining room or add more tables or something idk but beauty and the beast is one of my favorite Disney movies so I had to do it. Even if i didn't get a reservation i would be fine because I go almost once a year because I live in the northeast so I knew I would eat there one day but after going through all that to eat there, I think I can wait a couple years to do it again lol

The thing with Starbucks is that personally, I don't get the coffee. The frappachinos are great on a hot day. And the refreshers and caffeinated lemonade/tea drinks are really good. I'll only get it when it's not busy (which is rare). The only location I despise is the MK because we had to lose the bakery

I haven't been to DW in the last 30 years. We went to this 1 attraction, I don't remember the name all I know is after walking around the park, you go into this place you stand in the lobby, then they take you into a theatre, where you also have to stand. What were they thinking. Do they still have it there?

In the 1970's Cinderellas Royal Table restaurant was unbelievable. My Dad used to take us there every time we went to Disney and every time it was fantastic. Ate there many times as a kid, would not even think of it today as Disney food overall is overrated now and too expensive. Oh back then I think it was called King Stefan's table or something like that.

Hey I'm from the future: They got rid of Stitch's Great Escape. I'm going to be honest, the only reason I miss it is because of the memories. When I was younger, one of the only things I remember when I was little in Disney.

Two food overrateds are churros and the Dole pineapple whip. I swear I could ride three rides before someone gets through the Dole line up. That's another thing too that if people don't get it just ruins their holiday.I AM surprised Peter Pan wasn't listed. I love it because it's my favourite movie, I love the song 'You Can Fly' and I love London so flying over it in the first part of the ride is worth the wait. But I can see how others who aren't so smitten with the things I am would find it overrated.

My heart broke a little when you said Philharmagic, but I am biased since I did my second CP there. I do, however, agree that it needs a bit of an update even though it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

I agree 100% about the Starbucks! While I like Starbucks coffee, I can get it anywhere in the area I live, so when I go to Disney I love getting Joffery's coffee it is much better with no lines. On my last Disney trip the Starbucks link was longer than half of the attraction lines!

I agree with most of your attractions on the list. My take on it though is if you are a first timer going to WDW no matter your age, you would be hard pressed to say anything overrated. The experience is just soo magical.
@applesaurus50417 жыл бұрын
Cinderella's table. The food is awful and way over priced for the experience. Peter pan's flight. Literally you're waiting maybe 2 hours for a 60 second ride where the physical aspects of the ride haven't been updated in 15 years. the sorcerer cards are just disney's response to the interactive harry potter wands at universal. It's them trying to create a need for something that doesn't fit their over all themed.

I feel like the worst thing about "Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom" is that it doesn't really follow a good path. When I went, I tried to play it, and I gave up about five cards in for two reasons. 1) It required you to literally walk from one side of the park ALLLL the way to the other side, find the SPECIFIC WINDOW, and hold up the card. 2) If you find a portal that ISN'T the SPECIFIC ONE that the machine tells you to go to, it rejects you outright. I agree that it isn't really for kids, because I don't think kids would want to do that much walking or be so frustrated by it. It's probably more for teenagers. It definitely needs modifications.

My brother, when he would go to the Magic Kingdom on school trips, would spend all day with his friends on Tom Sawyer's Island. They loved running around in the caves, bridges, forts, etc. I guess it is an 8yr old boy thing.

My list: 5. Space mountain- as much fun as it is it’s just a fast dark ride. 4. Mickeys philharmagic- 3D is worn out. 3. Jungle cruise: you’re on a boat ride with inanimate object. 2. Small world- same as jungle cruise, just a boat ride with a song and inanimate objects. 1. DINOSAUR- a dark ride with that’s kinda spooky but when you get out of it do you really think it was worth the 45-90 minute wait. The queue is boring, the story is mediocre at best, the ride is extremely uncomfortable, and at the end you realized all you did on that ride was peel out in a couple of fake ruts, speedy portions of the ride, and bring back a fake passenger extra-large.

Oliver, I think you are to young to realize that there was a time when people could be entertained by a walk through attraction. The Swiss Family Tree House and Tom Sawyer Island were both created before cable TV, VHS tapes much less the Internet. While they are dated, I think some of the classics should be kept, but they should try to give them a modern "plus". Closing the food services on the island is was the wrong direction, they should have made it something people want to go eat at.

I agree. If you grew up watching these movies it was cool to be in the setting of the films. I can remember looking in the cave for Injun Joe and being so scared he might be there! And they were developed in a simpler time when kids didn't have to be so overstimulated to have a good time.

We were able to get a very last minute breakfast reservation at Be Our Guest. It wouldn't have upset me if we didn't, but I was excited that we did. For me, growing up with Beauty and the Beast, it was more about seeing the ballroom in real life. Honestly, even if it were just a hall that you walked into, explored, and that's all it was, that would be enough for me.

Question. Is there, or have you thought of doing, a list regarding the SHOWS of Disney world/land? It would be cool to hear about stage shows you guys enjoy/pan, what parades work and which ones don't, comparing both fantasmics, sparring Illuminations with World of Color, Main Street electrical parade against paint the night, etc? I would love to hear your thoughts on that

I've been to Cinderella’s Royal Table once and that was back in 2000 when my brother and (now) sister-in-law were getting married down there. No character dining, the 'cast' was fantastic, the meals were excellent. I haven't been back (only because of popularity) and I don't fight for reservations any longer. I just eat wherever has a table now (for the most part). I haven't been in the Treehouse since I was a child (41 now). Can do without it completely. My hate with Starbucks is a) Starbucks; b) doesn't have to do with MK, but the ruin of Fountain View.

My daughter is the audience for Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. She doesn't like most of the rides at MK, and she loves that game. It's a bit frustrating for me because following her around the park eats up *my* time that I could spend on Space Mountain or something. But I can confirm that she can't get enough of that game.

i feel like i'm the only disney fan in the world that loves stitch's great escape. i would chalk it up to two things- 1. i never experienced alien encounter, and 2. stitch is my favorite disney character ever. it was just a childhood favorite attraction of mine and i'm just kind of sad to see it die like this :(

I agree that Cinderella's Royal Table is horribly overrated! It's such a let down and it smells horrible and musty in there. I always wondered if I was the only one that didn't like it. The decor....everything, is just bad and in MAJOR need of a update. One thing I loved during the late 90's the butter they served was in the shape of a stand up Mickey statue, but that was the best part of the entire experience for me and they don't even have that anymore! I have LOVED Cinderella since I was little, but even as a child, I remember eating there was a let down. I have even told my husband that I don't want to take our kids there because it somewhat kills the "magic" of the beautiful castle. I recently have heard about another princess character restaurant in Epcot called Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. I think it is supposed to be "castle like" and the character interaction is said to be pretty good. It's supposedly better food and easier to get into than Cinderella's Royal Table so I am planning on checking it out on my next trip to Disney.

We ate at Be Our Guest in September, and I was shocked at how unimpressed I was in light of all the hype I had read and heard about it. It was good, but nothing I would be upset if I didn't get to go back to. Also, we didn't care for the food flavors. It wasn't that the food was bad, it was very good IF you like the seasonings; my family just didn't care for the flavors.
