Loaves are daunting! We make a lot of flat breads, they're just simple and quick and no fail hehe, but man do I love cutting into a loaf as well, or having eggs on a slice of crusty on the edge, soft in the middle bread hehe :D The kids have loved the sausages too! They've been wonderful to have in the freezer! We'll have to do another big batch over the winter, its definitely easier in the colder weather on the mincer etc.

I did a public speaking course while at university as I was incredibly shy. I had 3 children in 2-1/2 years, so 3 pre-teens, and the quantity they ate back then still stays with me now, 20+ years later. I still cook like there's an army in my house. 😊 Back then I added lots of potatoes, carrots, celery, onions, and rice as fillers with most meals. But yes your grocery budget will increase to nearly double over 3-4 years. Definitely get 2 hampers and set aside for extras that they are offering as well.
@OurSmallFootprint

It has definitely increased as they've gotten older and I know it will get worse, the three small boys are only 8,9,9 (10 in september) so it will get worse lol. I need to get better about having snacks available too I think, set aside baking days in my schedule, I have a tendency to not get to it, but if I made protein balls and some muffins and granola and stuff like that it would help too! We're still trying to figure out our routine with me taking on work with D instead of my typing etc as well!

It was really nice by the time it was processed wasn't it, that lovely plum purpley colour! Yikes! That is expensive for a sausage, considering sausages are supposed to be a cheap kind of a meal! I think I could bring my pricing down a little lower if I added a few extra bits and pieces, fillers that are real food not just fillers and I think we could have got more out of the casings I bought, there were some offcuts we ended up discarding, and some sausages that had big strings in between because I didn't quite get it even, but still, I was pretty happy with the cost in the end! :D

I love pork still slightly pink (I'm a rare steak gal). That jam looked delightful. I could watch sausages being made all day, I am not a fan of the coles or Woolies snags. I didn’t know that some Coles sausages have chicken added in. Plain beef is the preferred around here. Mind you I like a few gourmet ones myself. You have reminded me of Kel Knight from Kath and Kim, the purveyor of sausage making. Always making notes on different flavours to try in his sausage making. Great to have that many at hand in the freezer. I haven’t made jam for yonks. I actually bought a jar of three berry mix recently and have been enjoying it. Funny how you go without and then just have a crave for something. I had been recently wondering about your growing family and portion sizes and how adjustments would need to be made. The pork looked yummy.

I wasn't aware either! but their cheap bbq sausages, have beef and a portion of chicken, I haven't eaten them in a long time, so I have no idea on the flavour of them, but I suppose chicken may soften the texture a bit! i love jam and things like that, but I so rarely have stuff here to eat it on, like if I bake bread I tend to eat it in a savoury way, and we don't snack etc!

Plenty of people still do, or open kettle canning! :D. We have such dodgy temperatures here, from -8 in winter to 48 in summer and no cellar or anything, so I'm not comfortable leaving anything on my shelf that hasn't been processed, its just too risky and I would hate for it to go to waste! :D
