Wrecks, like caves are 'overhead.' Separate course from cave even. Not sure about cave diving, but wreck penetration has both a regular and an 'advanced wreck penetration.' If you're doing wreck dives in excess of recreational limits, you're going to have to have a certification in deco procedures and probably some sort of trimix cert. Just guessing. Happy with the timing of this video. Just got home from a Nitrox class and I'm attending a wreck diving seminar this week.

Man, that was a fun dive that day! There were two of us recording parts of the dive. I was using a GoPro + a torch on a goodman handle, on the other hand. This was why the lighting wasn't consistent. The other video clips were from our buddy using iPhone in a sealife case (i believe) and the humidity sensor was tripped within 5min of beginning the dive and thats the beeping you hear. The muffled videos were from the GoPro, but you can still hear the beeping in the background

Hello gentlemen. I come from Poland. I have been diving in all kinds of waters: cold, warm, dark, shallow and deep, for over a quarter of a century and i have a lot of experience in this field. Due to my experience, I had the opportunity to modify the diving techniques and configuration several times, which were introduced by individual diving federations a few years later. In light of this, let me evaluate your work. Gentelnen, i would like to congratulate you on the great recordings that saved the life of many irresponsible diving enthusiasts. I wish you continued success, platinum albums from KZbin and funds to continue this memorable work. Yours faithfully - my friend, a diver Jarek, from Poland.

@divetalk the Lady Luck was a “poop tanker” that served her years in NYC moving waste from NYC to NJ and Staten Island… so what Woody dove (the “cargo holds”) used to be full of… yes, that… new york style “that”. What makes LL even better is that local operators keep adding features to it (it’s casino themed because money for prep and sinking was provided by a local casino…) Lastly, just NW of her (330 degrees from midship) there’s another wreck (the Rodeo an old freighter ) and dead N to the Rodeo sits the Mary St. Phillipe (or mariner tug) a beautiful tugboat which is often full of life. So believe it or not, scooters are also useful in the ocean! Great video! We now need to take you Gus to do some wreck diving (hydro atlantic, lowrance, RBJ and Spiegel Grove… that last one is real penetration to get to both engine rooms) saludos from south FL!

It's worth pointing out that there are generally only so many hazards in (most) cave diving, while wrecks are ships, which come in a much wider variety of innovations and engineering... That said, the wrecks WERE designed and documented before they sank... SO with a little research and some knowledge of shipboard mechanical features in general, most of the ship-related hazards can be foreseen and planned for, even from the very first dive to explore the wreck from the very first day... Cave Exploring, however has a lot of "completely unknowns"... We can't know what we don't know about caves before we go in there... For example, things like capstans and halyards can have hydraulics and moving parts, or even cables entangled... Ropes and lines are frequently just all over the place and with current can create snarls and snags that present their own hazards, and then all the electrical and electronic equipment can have wires and exposed bits to snag wet suits or hoses... Passageways are constricting on ships, but NOTHING like you can run into in a cave... As to which is particularly MORE dangerous or challenging, it's a toss up, really. It comes down to "Plan your dive and dive your plan" at the end of the day. Stick to that principle, and don't be afraid to thumb a dive if things get dicey. Better to return later than become a permanent resident. ;o)

I just have a random question about diving; how far can you reasonably travel underwater by yourself without any extremely expensive equipment? I'm talking about distances of length not depth. I assume you would need a good DPV and a large reserve of oxygen. Would 30 miles be doable without resurfacing? How much would that cost equipment-wise?
@DIVETALK2 жыл бұрын
With our DPVs at full throttle on very favorable current you can probably cover like 20 miles, but if you are going against the current of you are not streamlined, etc. Then no chance. 30 miles you could probably do on a Seacraft Ghost - again with very favorable conditions - but you would be pushing the limits of all the equipment. The rebreather and the DPV. I do think it’s doable under the right conditions. You would be carrying around $30,000 worth of equipment on you though.
@interstellarlapisthecccp49462 жыл бұрын
@@DIVETALK yeah, $30,000 would be a reasonable sum to pay for equipment on that type of journey. I was wondering how navy seals and other special forces manage to travel long distances underwater when deploying behind enemy lines. Do they use a miniature sub to close the distance and avoid detection or do they have some way of transporting large amounts of oxygen with them? That seems to be the primary problem when diving long distances and avoiding resurfacing. As a regular diver I guess you could set up oxygen tanks along the way which you switch out as you reach each checkpoint, but they don't really have the luxury of that kind of preparation.
@PICS0UL2 жыл бұрын
Not a diver so I have no clue if this is normal but... What are the bubbles coming out of the small hose between Woodys tanks (are they even called tanks?) from 13:43 -13:53?
@DIVETALK2 жыл бұрын
It’s a micro leak, some hoses or connectors develop it, not a big deal but of course something to check. Think of it like a tire that has 3/4 or 1/2 of thread left, yes it would be best if it was a new tire but you are not going to crash and die because you have 1/2 thread left.

There’s a 640’ freighter that sunk up here in the st Lawrence river that I’d like to go visit this season. I believe it’s one of the two dives we will do during a deep dive class this summer. Im sure you could get very technical with that one if you were certified and prepared. The bottom is at 254’ though and from what I can see there are 3 documented deaths so it’s certainly not something to mess around with.

Gear question for you guys: Why do you use the orca spirit for open water, and the sidewinder for caves? What benefit do you get from the orca over the sidewinder? Why not just use the sidewinder or orca exclusively? Thanks!!
@DIVETALK2 жыл бұрын
Just like other open circuit and scuba equipment, rebreathers also have "a mission profile", there is nothing wrong with using Sidewinders in the ocean or Spirits in caves, however, those two units have certain benefits that make it better for the mission, for example, the Spirit stands straight up and canisters are mounted on a rigid plate, so it is so much easier to don on a boat than the Sidewinder, the Sidewinder has a smaller profile, so if you are going in caves with smaller tunnels the Sidewinder makes more sense. But there's nothing wrong with bringing the Spirit in a cave, for example both of us got certified as cave divers on the Spirit, my Cave DPV certification was on a Spirit too, and this past weekend I did a 2+ hour cave dive on the Spirit because I didn't want to bring two rebreathers for the weekend, the first day we were diving in Open Water and the second day in a cave, so I had to pick a unit to take and I chose the Spirit. They are both extremely similar units, this is why the crossover from the Spirit to the Sidewinder was a lot easier for both of us, the units operate for the most part the exact same way.

Another rule for "limited penetration" from PADI is you shouldn't go further than 30m (or 40 depending on your certification level), counting from the surface. Meaning, if there's a wreck at 10m, you can penetrate up to 20m. If the wreck is at 20m, you can penetrate it 10m.
