Hallelujah!! A swift and concise explanation, at last. I have been going out of my mind with chronic pain for 11 weeks after four different doctors insisted that all I was experiencing was constipation. I have now (yesterday) been diagnosed as having diverticular disease, after insisting on a CT scan and then being sent for a colonoscopy. Thank you very much for making this video.

I have been suffering for 4 months with this. I just saw a doctor today who set up a CT scan and colonoscopy. How did your scan go? I am getting very concerned
@hauntological4 жыл бұрын
@@SirClintonPaul Hi there, similar for me. Due to these COVID-times and the inability to get a face-to-face doctors appt. (just 4 telephone ones), the process for me was stupidly slow - for a diagnosis. I suspected diverticular disease in the first place and mentioned this to the doctors, despite being told 'no, it's not, otherwise, you'd know about it'. Ermmm, well I did know about it and said so lol. They were wrong, I was right. After 11 weeks of pain and discomfort, they finally sent me for a CT scan. The scan was absolutely fine. It doesn't take long at all and is completely painless. I had the colonoscopy about ten days later. I had to have a COVID test before going to the hospital, then self-isolate for 10 days before the colonoscopy. They sent a home-enema kit to use (an hour) before the colonoscopy, which basically empties your bowels. Again, this was easy and painless.....quite a relief actually. The colonoscopy was OK. Somewhat uncomfortable but absolutely nothing compared to the previous 11 weeks of pain and discomfort I'd had. Once at the hospital, I had the option of being slightly sedated or to have Entonox (gas and air). I opted for Entonox, it just took the edge away from worrying about what they were doing. They gave me the option to watch the procedure in real-time, on a TV screen, I declined, lol. The entire procedure only lasted about 20 minutes. I'm a bit of a 'worrier' and stressed myself out a lot, the week prior to the colonoscopy. On reflection, I needn't have done. It was OK and a relief to finally get some peace of mind and a diagnosis. Try not to worry too much (easier said than done, I know). I'm sure you'll feel much better once you've had it done and despite being a bit uncomfortable, it wasn't anything like I thought it would be. Put it this way, I'd rather have another colonoscopy than a tooth-filling lol. Do let me know how it goes. All the best 👍

A thousand thank yous!!! I have has 6 colonscopies and 2 gastroscopies for the last 10 years. All these years I have been told I am lactose intolerant (no any other further explanation). My constipation became so bad I had to have a bladder operation (mesh insert). I saw the same gastroenterologist for the last 3 years, not once did she mention diverticulitis. I Also had an operation to cordoned off the internal hemorrhoids and 3 in house rubberband treatments. And still no one has ever given me a clue that it could be diverticulitis. My bleedings are so bad my iron is never above 8 (my gynecologist was very concerned about my iron levels on my last visit(January 2021- this is my yearly routine check up). I identify with all these symptoms especially the bleeding. I am gobsmacked that the symptoms, it seem so obvious. My last colonscopy was June 2020. I'm so grateful to know the diagnosis. I knew internal hemorrhoids could NOT bleed for that long with so much blood lost in 1 sitting - I to have go at least 3 times a day when this happens. I am currently having another episode due Ibuprofen and Aspirin usage. So grateful I am crying😢. God Bless.❤🙏 From South Africa

Your videos are great and so descriptive and detailed. I was just released from the ER with this diagnosis. I asked if it was common. She said she does have a good amount of cases young and old. I am a single mom so I was scared but the ER doctor made me feel comfortable by telling me about all of these test and scans she would run to find out what was causing the lower ab pain. I did not want to move being still felt so much better than walking. It was tender to the touch just like video. My ER doctor did give me antibiotics and other stuff just like you talked about After watching your videos I understand the test she ran and why. She wants me to see a specialist ASAP. The ER doctor was great but she did not go into detail like you did in your videos about complications but many of the things you mentioned she did follow. So thank you so much because I will be ready to ask questions when I meet with the specialist in Gastroenterology. Thank you.

Thanks for the video. I’ve been diagnosed with diverticulitis 2 years ago. The ending of this past January I began having severe abdominal pain I was rushed to the hospital numerous times admitted 5x and they treated me every single time like it was diverticulitis. Well fast forward to march 31 2023 I rushed myself to the hospital and told the doctor I’ve had enough with all this pain and that I was ready for surgery. Mind you I was on antibiotics for now 2 months all those antibiotics you posted I had every single one of them and being on a liquid diet for 2 months I went from being 232# to 169# I started to get very worried to the point where I couldn’t sleep at night. March 31 I spoke to the doctor and asked for surgery I’ve had the surgery they hooked me up to a colostomy bag. The day After my surgery the surgeon came in and explained the procedure I had done he said it was weird but everything was stuck together like really thick glue the little intestine was stock to the large intestine and on the CT scan it showed both were inflamed he said very weird he went on to say they will reevaluate me in 3 months to reverse my surgery. I’ve now had the bag for close to a month now. The day after my surgery they requested for me to have colonoscopy procedure done. I went under the next day they did the colonoscopy and took tissue samples from my large intestines for testing. They found nothing. They didn’t even find any pouches in my sigmoid or anywhere. The tissue sample they took came back and yet again nothing was abnormal. Everything seemed fine. Last Friday I get a call my doctor tells me she will be be referring me to do extensive testing and another hospital because they can’t figure out what exactly is wrong with me. And they don’t want to reverse my surgery until they really know exactly what’s wrong. Wanted to know if you ever heard of anything like this and if you could give me some feed back thank you.

I was diagnosed with diverticulitis just recently. I was hospitalized because I had severe diarrhea after I had gallbladder surgery. I pretty much crapped everything out of my system. So I got so weak and sick. I had to stay in the hospital for two or three days. I felt so awful. I am on a low fiber diet because at this point a high fiber diet would give me diarrhea. Part of it might be the Gallbladder surgery. I had complications with diarrhea when I didn't have diarrhea before. But this explains why I got sick on certain foods I didn't before when I was younger.

I suffered excruciating pain whilst a hundred miles from home. I drove home looking through a red haze. When nearly home my wife insisted that I should go immediately to hospital. The medical people suspected a perforated appendix and operated accordingly, it was then they discovered it was diverticular disease. Apparently I was in the theatre for quite a while and when I awoke I found I had a colostomy bag, but the pain had disappeared and replaced with post operative soreness.I was aged 49. I had the colostomy bag for eleven months, then my previous operation was reversed which put me back to normal again. I am now 82 and have had no further problems.

My brother had severe diverticulitis with fistulas and bowel obstruction which put him in emergency surgery. Gets worse when he contracted a flesh eating bacteria immediately after and went back into surgery to save his life. The doctor said if it had traveled up one more centimeter of his spine he’d have died. A large section of skin was removed from his thigh and he had a colostomy bag for about a year. Good news is he healed, had another long surgery to reconnect his colon which the doctor wasn’t sure she had enough to work with going into surgery but she managed and he’s healed. He’s still recovering emotionally from it all four years later but it was so extreme what he went through.

When you had your surgery did they remove a section of your colon? I was hospitalized in March for eight days with diverticulitis. It was bad-perforation, abscess, incredible pain. It was treated successfully with IV antibiotics, fasting, etcetera. Now it is back again, I am being treated at home with antibiotics, but the doctors say if this keeps happening I will have to have surgery to remove a section of colon. Hate the idea, but if it’s necessary, what choice? Encouraging to hear that this happened to you at 49, and now, at 82, it has not returned. I am 75.

Thanks for the info. Are there steps to determine if surgery is the best option? I have had two abdominal surgeries, at 8 for Ulcers and had a Bilroth II bypass, and again at 20 for reconstructive abdominal surgery. Both were intense, and I was not expected to survive. Fast forward several years, and I was hospitalized when presenting LLQ pain. The CT indicated I had diverticulitis. I was hospitalized and released on antibiotics and instructed to follow a liquid diet for four days and then start to introduce foods slowly. The pain did subside, but they also want to do a colonoscopy in 6 to 8 weeks and have a follow-up appointment. The pain returned in the LLQ and also in my upper thigh? The doctor said it wasn't related, but I see in one of your videos you can have thigh pain if there is some leakage. The doctor felt we should try psyllium for a few weeks and follow up. Unfortunately, I was only able to take the psyllium for a week; the colonoscopy indicated no cancer and but diverticulosis was present as it was in 2015. The pain is still present and getting worse again, but a new CT shows the swelling has subsided. Today, surgery to remove the lower bowl was raised, but there was no time to discuss complications that might arise due to previous surgeries. My bowl movements before this were fluffy and loose. I always watched my diet and had plenty of fiber. My GI doc determined I had a high fecal fat content back in 2016, but didn't believe it was an issue. We wanted to make the right decision on surgery and were hoping for more guidance to speak to the physician. Again, this is my first bout with this and concerns the same surgery department that didn't want to fix an umbilical hernia, most likely due to previous surgeries because of previous surgeries. Thanks

The video said a person who has this shouldn't have a colonoscopy instead a CT Scan with contrast dye. I don't know the time stamp so you can watch it again if you want to. I hope you get the right care you need/deserve we know our bodies better than anybody most of the time anyways. But we put if off do to fear and prep, and gut cramps nausea vomiting that stuff they give us is unknown what it'll do. I vomited almost 5 hours after drinking sodium citrate drink they gave me. So i didn't do anything else i canceled it. No way could i drink that syrupy stuff that you mix with like 2 gallons of water or something like that. So I'm super scared to get it done and not to get it done. That sodium citrate is very hard on the stomach after i dranked it and vomited for hours i told my friend and he told me his gastrointestinal doctor told him he doesn't give that out to his patients or recommend them to buy it over the counter. He said it's much to hard on the stomach. He told him to drink mirlax and then the syrupy/water mix. But my friend didn't have all the several symtoms from esophagus to the bottom parts and left sides lower abdominal pain among intestinal problems and pain.

I’m having the same problem. I had a CT scan on February 2019 which also showed nothing. The pain subsided after a while but now it’s been constant for 3 weeks. No clue what to do next.

I had diverticulitis for 5 months and i almost died of it. i was lucky to come across Dr BERG on KZbin that explained it and how to treat it. and what did i do? i made a sauerkraut(fermented vegetable) and started feeling better immediately i had a spoon of it. hope this helps someone out there. though i advice you take IV antibiotics before eating the sauerkraut.

Hi, do we need to take antibiotics before going for sauerkraut? I dont have continuous pain, I get mostly during bowel movements in lower left quadrant.

This is so out of date, diverticulitis is not an old person’s condition, it is passed down from parents. And it has nothing to do with diet. My mother and her 8 siblings had diverticulitis.her father and his siblings had it and his father. My cousin had a stoma foe a year at age 24, having half her colon removed, my uncle had half his colon removed at age 33. My mother’s family were Irish and brought up on an organic farm ,fresh veg fish and meat, no sugar until they came to UK in the 1940’s. none of them suffered from lack of fibre or being constipated. I have 47 cousins and about half have diverticulitis, I myself have it and despite my family history my surgeons thought I had IBS……they waited until my bowl burst and then had to have emergency surgery to save my life, I now have a stoma , and after lastest colonoscopy diverticulitis has returned on my healthy remaining colon. No one seems to know what to do with me or the next step to take. From surgeon to surgeon I go waiting for someone to put a plan together for me. They tell me to “keep an eye on my diverticulitis “ lol so I’ll use my x ray eyes to look in side now again.

@gsc763 жыл бұрын
Have it removed. 15 is way too young to have this disease.
@ZarelidT3 жыл бұрын
@@gsc76 removed!?!? Theirs plenty of other methods to handle this without having to remove part of your intestine! Why would you just default to this!?
@gsc763 жыл бұрын
@@ZarelidT it depends. If this person is only 15 and already having flair ups requiring antibiotics, they will no doubt have a perforation at a young age. I went through it, I’m lucky to be alive. They can actually remove the small piece of the colon that is infected through a laparoscopic procedure these days. Otherwise you will be cut all the way down your stomach causing lifelong problems. The younger you are diagnosed with diverticulitis, the more likely you are to have a perforation.
