It's a double edged sword. I had a great career directly out of college. I worked hard for it and it was tough working long hours. But my salary and benefits were amazing. It didn't take long to see that men would either be intimidated by my success or value it. I was fortunate to have met my husband who loved it, but I also knew that someone would need to give up their job to raise a family. The beauty is I didn't want to return to a 40-60 hour week after having kids and my husband provided a good income to allow me to stay home. Brian to me looked like a very low key, quiet family man; at least that’s what I got from him. Their impending divorce came as a shock but I believe that something major must have happened for him to file for divorce, what appears to be behind her back. He’s also asking for alimony which to me seems out of spite because I don’t think he will get it and he also knows that. It looked like he was sacrificing a lot for their marriage but Rachel was busy chasing her dreams. His last statement about loving himself and his partner enough to move on with their lives or something to that effect led me to believe that his needs aren’t being met and he sees that she wants something else in life than he wants so he thinks it’s better that they separate so that they could freely pursue those interests. I wish both of them the best. Hopefully Rachel is not making a mistake here.
