I also worked in a government job. I know two guys that on the day they retired, their wives filed for divorce. Both came right back to work after putting in 30 years each as their pensions were cut in half. As far as I know, they're still working.....an absolute nightmare.

@@Tony-eb5kh oh very nasty. One of the guys was a super nice guy also...his nickname was Happy....but his son also worked for the same agency, he liked his job and he ended up meeting a new woman....as far as I know he's happy 😂.....the other guy was an arrogant douchebag so he probably deserved it 😆

Having a wife that doesn't work is a fatal mistake when divorce comes along. I got married in 1987 and divorced 24 years later. My wife did not work for the last 22 years. I ended up having to work for 5 extra years beyond my planned retirement date just to recoup my lost pension.

Good story, I can think of a win for a man that wasn't conniving. In the early 80s in the US when health benefits did not apply to everyone, a civil service coworker was told by his wife she was going to clean him out of everything. A month later she was quite shaken up begging not to get divorced as she needed a half million dollar experimental operation to save her life. He said sign the papers to take what you put into the marriage only and don't touch mine and I will stay married on the books until your operation is complete, but we are done, and that's how it went.

Good morning Eric, so sad to read this the thing that spurned me on was when I got the divorce over with I ended up going Bankrupt and living in a 1 bedroom flat in a not so nice location Picking my kids up at the house I worked so hard for and she now owned it and I was paying for it via maintenance to the kids ( never objected to paying this for the kids ) she did not work and was 300 pounds a month better off than me working full time. When she said how's your new place that was a kick in the nuts for me. When I met her she had a suitcase full of clothes and now she had everything. Long story short, this might be your wake up call and you can turn that corner and make things happen. You can do it for sure. Chin up Eric I know your feeling as I have been there.

This story is so familiar. It's not my story but shares common themes. I've been researching retiring overseas, watching the youtube videos and keep running into men who did everything that was expected of them. Men who worked hard, followed all the rules, were good husbands, fathers and taxpayers. All these men getting to the end of their careers and they have nothing in their home country. Their country and women betrayed them and frankly could care less what happens to them. You're the one supposed to give them stuff, you're not ever supposed to ask for anything back. After they have used you up and thrown you out, they will shame you for doing well and finding a foriegn wife willing to love you like they wouldn't.

Visiting Thailand whilst getting Divorced was used against me during one of our Court hearing's My wife's Lawyer was female the Judge at that hearing was Female and a remark made to the Judge as we all know the reasons Men go to Thailand Don't we!!! My reply to her was that she was small minded. Women frown when they know you have been to Thailand and we are looked down upon by women in the UK but looking at the available females in the UK Thailand wins hands down. I know many Guys hard working genuine guys have lost everything because she want to get a divorce. You can only recover so many times. Not bitter or angry if I did not make her happy I hope she finds someone that does make her happy. Life goes on

@acr9319
@acr9319 3 жыл бұрын
@Tom williams,.. I would say its best to be married but to a feminine woman who knows her place in the home and society and enjoys her role as a wife, mother, housewife etc. Human beings were created to be with one another in a partnership or family role, we are not like some animals who just meet to procreate then never see each other again. Humans were created to be in a family environment, all the science and signs prove that, but its the F' up feminist movement that has desecrated that whole family unit ideal and created animals (for lack of a better word) out of women and therefore making it impossible for humans to be in this union any longer. Asia is one of the last bastions where we men can still find such a feminine woman who was brought up with proper old-school values, but this is why its crucial you never bring her back to the west or you will lose her as she assimilates into the western society and its values (what values). So our "window of opportunity" is very short as mobile phones are destroying this opportunity.

@RetiredandLivingthedream
@RetiredandLivingthedream 3 жыл бұрын
Mr Dan, that crossed my mind but if we remortgaged the New build house the interest rate at that time would of been 15% on a 150,000 pound Mortgage no way we could of sustained that, Also the cost to furnish the house for renting was a lot of money, fully carpet it furniture well above what we had. I thought of every which way to do this, My last option was to walk away I was lucky to come out with 6,000 pounds we were 5 week away from walking away without anything. If i took on the extra expense we risked losing everything so bit the bullet put both houses up for sale the New build sold 1st.

Hi, sorry to hear your situation in the USA, If you have a regular income on $1,000 every month you can live here in Thailand, with that amount you can live in a reasonable property and be able to survive, some people will say its an existence but if you can achieve a better lifestyle here on the amount of income you have then in my opinion go where your buck goes further. Cambodia is even cheaper than Thailand and your money would go further than here in Thailand. It will be an existence on that amount but it can be done for sure. I have done a couple of videos living on 35,000 Baht and living on 50,000 baht, the 35,000 baht is more in line with what you have to play with, give them a watch and let me know your thoughts. Best of luck with your situation

I plan to do the same at 50. 45 this year so won’t be long in going in! Either that, or holiday 3 months a year to Thailand for the 5 years, (from 50-55) that’ll bring me to 55, so I can cash in my private pension. I’ll also be mortgage free in 3 years, so I can rent my house out for an extra income! 🙏🏻

Hi Charlie, Not having got to that age yet, as far as I understand as long as your registered in the UK then you get the rise, I will cross that bridge when I get to it, but I understand if your in the UK for a month every year then you get the rise but I also understand if you missed a rise for a few years then when you return back to the UK for a month or so then all them rises are added to your pension payment, but are not back dated. I would be interested as you are about this. Thanks for asking the question.

Unfortunately, marriage is a legal contract where one of the parties gets paid to break said contract. I've seen so many friends get crucified by divorce, then watch their ex's drive around town in expensive cars owned by the new partner, while they struggle to afford to eat and run a car to get to work. The legal system is set up so that that when a couple split, money goes one way 90% of the time, and we know which way that is. All the best.

I'm sorry this happened to you and glad you're well now. Sounds like you packed in your businesses not because they were failing, and the bankruptcy was due to you closing your businesses while having liabilities. In hindsight, was this a good decision? I'm guessing the children were quite young at the time?
@RetiredandLivingthedream
@RetiredandLivingthedream Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for the comment. I closed down the business as my Maintenance for my ex and two kids would of been based on my total income working with my other jobs as well as being a Firefighter and my feeling was why should I work more so my ex got more, When I met my ex she had two suitcases full of clothes that's all. Renting a small room in a house. Yes I had Liability's also which could not be paid because I quit the other jobs but taking my financial advisors advice and legal advice I was advised to close everything and went Bankrupt. It was not my choice to get a Divorce it was my wife who decided she wanted the break up. I tried everything in my power to not get divorced but her mind was made up. Following Divorce she got the house a income for 12 years a House with a small mortgage only had to work 16hrs a week and no debts. In hindsight yes it was the right decision to go Bankrupt. Yes the kids were young and my ex started poisoning their minds from the break up stopping me seeing the kids for 9 months whilst I went through the courts. She delayed at every turn. The badmouthing carried on regardless I never retaliated by badmouthing their mum never did. This eventually turned the kids against me so in the end she won what she wanted to win. Sad situation but Life goes on. A sad time but I hope others who go through this hard time in their lives can see light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for watching.

@@RetiredandLivingthedream Sounds nasty. The children will get older and make up their own minds. I hope they get to see you enough, despite you living so far away. I also hope their mum found a job that she absolutely enjoys and that childcare arrangements were ok while she works .. Maybe she could work around school times. I do have to say, though, that while you worked hard, even 7 days a week at one point, she was also working because looking after young children while maintaining the mechanics of a household is no easy task. I did it for a while and was relieved to go back to my even stressful job outside the home. The homemaker is not earning a pension or financial security, but sacrificing that to make the hunky dory household, raising the kids full time, dealing with the loneliness from not spending time with her spouse, and maybe sometimes getting the sense that what she's doing is not valued because it hasn't been assigned a £ value, so she was likely making a substantial contribution and sacrifice to the marriage, which i think warrants an equal and fair share of the earnings so that she doesn't drop down to zero with no security for the future after all she's done. All that being said, I would never advise a spouse to completely sacrifice a career to be a home maker. It's not healthy for that spouse in my opinion and I think that once the children are of junior school age, having an earning job is good for both spouses. This is all just my opinion and I hope I haven't caused offence. I admire your bounce back and wish you all the best.

@RetiredandLivingthedream

Hi thanks for your message, If I thought for one moment that would be possible I would walk away I fear you have herd too many horror stories, There are many good stories also living here, I know many guys who are very happy with life here with their Thai wives, guys being married for 15 & 20 years why do people dwell on the bad stories. Trust is a large part of life if I did not trust my Thai wife then I would not have bought this house. But as you mentioned being kicked out, this cant be done as I have a 30 year lease renewable for another 30 years to live on the land, Also if this did happen then for 7 years I have only lost the difference between renting and buying not a big difference when all said and done. But as a man you never know what the future holds. The 2nd wife had only a suitcase full of clothes when I met her and following Divorce ended up with a house worth 130,000 pounds with a mortgage of 30,000 pounds and no debt. I put down the 30,000 deposit which I could not get back so I lost far more in this marriage than If I lost everything after 7 years with my Thai wife ( who is by the way the most trustworthy Lady I have ever met in my life ) It all depends how you look at things in Life worry about the bad things can stop you enjoying the good things life has to offer, Just pick yourself up dust yourself down then move on. My ex wife has still 8 years to work before she can retire, on the other hand I have been retired for 12 years now so who won in the end.

Make sure you get a Pre Nup before getting married again. These are jut at the top of my head and I think there are many more.
