Decided to make an updated Oil Change DIY video for you guys. In this one I show you how to change the oil via a Fluid Extractor, or the traditional way through the drain plug in the oil pan. I even compare how much oil is leftover in the oil pan after draining it with a fluid extractor so you guys can see how effective a fluid extractor is.
We also do an Engine Flush treatment courtesy of our friends at Liqui Moly, and we add some of their Motor Oil Saver after we complete the oil change.
The engine flush and oil additives were provided to the channel by Liqui Moly, but we purchased the Oil Change kit from FCP Euro.
Let me know what you guys think of the video in the comments!

Camerooon! Great video!!! I better change my oil asap then, and drain fully. I have been using fluid extractor, decent amount remains at then end still. I also extract a bit from filter port by sticking extractor hose in there. Question Cam, have you used CERA TEC additive before? Thoughts on using that instead Motor Oil Saver? Also you can just dump the additive in 5-liter bottle and give a nice shake and then put in the motor.
@AudiC7Owners
@AudiC7Owners Жыл бұрын
If you don't have any oil consumption issues then I would use Cera Tec. If you have some oil consumption, I'd start off doing a couple rounds of motor oil saver. If that improves or fixes your consumption, then go back to the Cera Tec
@YouTubeHandlesAreStupid
@YouTubeHandlesAreStupid Жыл бұрын
@@AudiC7Owners Subz77z may want to check with LiquiMoly before doing this. They say to be very careful when changing fluids, because they say motors do get used to them. The LM sales guy from one of the videos said "Some people do Cera-Tec for one change, then they change to MoS2 on the next change" ... When I contacted LM the person who replied said to absolutely NOT do this. Lol
@YouTubeHandlesAreStupid

Wow. I did not expect that much oil to not be missed by the extractor. This may be dumb; but, are we sure the extractor hose has a straight shot to the bottom of the pan? Maybe the next time you're doing this, you can run the tube straight down like you did before, then remove the oil pan underneath to see where in the pan the tube hits. May be good content and information for us all.

If you use an engine additive to clean it, then absolutely. If you are just doing normal oil changes & stay on top of it, mixing new oil with that leftover bit won't harm anything.

Hey great video, I also do my oil change from the top and it akes oil changes a breeze. Just FYI harbor freight has a recall on that fluid extractor. @@AudiC7Owners what do you recommend for an oil catch can? (ie, brand, model) And what kind of 'catches' should we beware of, like how it behaves in winter?
@AudiC7Owners
@AudiC7Owners Жыл бұрын
1) you can't run a catch can on the 3.0t without modifying the pcv system. That's why we are installing ours when we do our pcv relocation. 2) the biggest thing is that you can't let it freeze. So if you live in a place where the car will be subjected to freezing Temps for a long time, I wouldn't install one. 3) I'm going to be using an integrated engineering can, but as long as you get one that has a good baffle you will be good. I also highly suggest getting one that allows you to drain from the bottom.

Hi Cameron, I have a q5 3.0t had the PCV/Oil separator changed including all hoses thermostat and water pump. Noticed no more oil consumption. After about a month of of this repair I added less than a quart of oil. Then after about 12 days I noticed that we needed to add about a quart of oil then after 5 days another quart? What gives? any Ideas? Here's the things I had the Oil separator replaced previously because it was defective. Yes the parts are from the Audi factory so the question is what's going on with oil consumption. Taking the car to the shop to do a scan to see if this part failed again. If so do you have any insight what may cause it to fail again? Or other ideas?

Some people do additional oil change, they say that even after you drain the old oil with flush, there is still some flush that stays in the engine and it will thin out the new oil, so they add cheap oil, run for few minutes, then drain it, then add good oil. I wanted to know what's your take on this? Have you experienced any oil thinning etc?
@AudiC7Owners

If you drain from the pan they're will not be a significant amount left in there. As long as you stay on top of your changes you don't need to worry about the residual leftover oil in the vehicle.

PSA- I ran into bad beginners luck after my first oil change. I didn’t torque the filter cap and only went a half turn past hand tightening. The oil sprayed everywhere towards the front fan. I’ll always make sure to use the torque wrench. I jiggle and move the extractor tube which helped get to the last half a liter. I measured the amount by pouring it back into the container.
