Watching from California. Not likely to do much roofing but a few repairs. I’ve worked fora roofer, but mostly did carpentry for him. Then most roofs I”ve actually put up are tin (in Hawaii). Did a shingle roof years ago with my dad. Enjoying the content. Merry Christmas and thank you!

I told you you would like it. We also use it to nail the drip edge on dry in day Cougar Paws makes a little sticker with foam on it that you can attach to it so it doesn’t slide off the roof. Framer works even better.

The Dewalt roofing nailer is awesome. Came with 1 battery. Charges faster than you think. Maybe 1/2 hour. Never had a problem. I find that straight shots sink the nail good. Angles under other shingles you have to make sure it’s all the way down. I can’t remember how many bundles on a charge but was a lot more than I thought with that little battery. Maybe 4. Milwaukee just came out with one also. It looks like it might give some competition.

I got the same caulking gun that you’re using. A real lifesaver! The cheap guns I get at the Big Box store make caulking a chore - tired wrists at the end of the day.

The Pitch Hopper also uses foam to grip the shingled roof. A bit pricey at $120, but I liked the ability to sit on it when I got tired of leaning or squatting. Dayum, looking very cold out there. What’s worse, summer heat or winter freezing? In your opinion. PS, I like that you so real work on real roofs. Some of the instructional videos I’ve watched have the company owner or his instructor working on a model roof, on the ground. Many times they’re small surfaces, too; so they can’t accurately display some detail (they run out of real estate on the model). Thanks, Los Angeles CA

I prefer the summer heat. The days are longer with more light, so we can start earlier to beat the heat. We can also get down under a shade tree and cool off with some water.

I agree, real world instruction is better than the mini-micro mock up roof in a warehouse or garage. I appreciate the effort these people make to spread the knowledge either way... but real world examples are always more valuable. I have done several repairs on roofs but I still feel the need to learn more of the finer details of flashing walls and other details on more complicated roofs. This channel really helped me get the nail patterns right, something I was doing wrong before. Where in LA are you? I'm in SFV.

Nice repair brother. As for the Dewalt nailer I've gotta tell you, I've used that gun for over a year now and it seems nice first few days but then the jamming get more annoying. I highly recommend the milwaukee cordless nailer. For small repairs that is.. keep up the good work.

I would be interested in some reviews of some architectural shingles. Plus some cost estimates of tear off and replace cost per square.

The last roof job I subbed out I pd 238/sq for a 18sq 2 layer tear off and reshingle with architectural shingles.

Thanks for great explanations. How do you decide what shingles need to be replaced?
@nicopolis737712 сағат бұрын
I bet that the previous roofers did not put flashing were the roof meets the siding .
@davidparker96768 сағат бұрын
I was wondering about the flashing on the wall too. I am always amazed that some installs don't leak even though they weren't flashed correctly.

If you did a roof over and I’m not saying you would but would you put felt paper down over the old shingles before putting the newer layer of shingles on? Or would you just put the shingles on directly over the old shingles?
