Assuming those are quality 18650s, that pack should be able to easily do 8000+ watts.

When the nickel doesn't lay flat you reduce the contact area...yes the welds create most of the contact area in terms of keeping resistance low but I like to stretch the nickel out and use magnets to hold it down along the way
@12villages Жыл бұрын
18650 are awesome because they are small and you can use a combination to make any size you want. Unfortunately, they are mostly available in NMC format only. The industry should scrap NMC and switch to LFP entirely but some vested interests prevent this from happening.

Great video @2:29 you should be careful laying out your strips like that. If one side is spot welded that could’ve caused a bad short. Regardless great editing.

Why would you use nickel to join to the two sections? You could have used copper wire or copper bar stock and soldered it on to the overhanging nickel and had much less resistance for that long jump. I get it, I don't like the folding a layer of 2P nickel and joining the packs in the middle like that but the reason why its done is because when you do the long jump from the bottom of the bottom pack to the top of the top pack thats a considerable distance. If you measure it with an RC3563 you'll see it can be several milliohms which is going to be more than your other series connections possibly (you might have countered that by using several strips of nickel.) But then you spliced those two wires together like that??? My man! Before twisting those wires together you had the perfect opportunity to shove all those small wires into the larger wire and then wrap the solder around the joint really tight. When you solder it it will stay together almost as tight as you had it wrapped. Much better mechanical connection (but nothing beats using a proper crimping tool and using a solid copper butt connector)

Thanks for the very informative video it looks like you must have done many of these as you waited till you were finished wrapping everything up before you tested it which indicates a high level of confidence LOL it will be a while before I get there because I still worry a lot about sparking and smoking when I'm making final connections as I've only done it once for a battery backup (for the next hurricane) as basic LED lighting using salvaged 18650s from old laptop batteries and copper wires but I have aspirations for eventually reaching your level of expertise even if my confidence never quite Rivals yours.

Looks like a nice work, but some design choices that don’t make sense. That strip looks too thin, doesn’t seems pure nickel, just cheap nickel plated steel, not good for such high amp battery, too much resistance it will heat up a lot, a lot of sag and voltage drop. That “bridge “ between the two parts is ridiculously long, it just creates too much resistance between those paralel groups, it’s not even recommended for the BMS to have those differences in the contacts lengths to make an accurate voltage reading and balancing. Like I said just look good, bad, inefficient and possible dangerous design.
