I now own this truck and still have this intake set up on it. Has held up fine and works great. I’m getting consistent 20-22mpg’s out of this truck cruising 75 on the highway.

That’s fantastic! We loved that rig. It spent its entire life in Union County, NC until we brought it up North in 2018. We loved road tripping in it. It’s like driving your living room down the road. Enjoy it!

Yes it is. Farthest I’ve gone is from Maine to Allentown pa twice. Old girl never skipped a beat. It’s got 303,000 miles on it now. Thankfully I’ve got another square body beater for the winter so I’ve yet to get any salt on it this year. Plan on keeping this one forever.

Genius, I'm doing that shit tomorrow on my freshly rebuilt 6.2! First start will be tomorrow too. Appreciate ya!

Nice mod. I'm doing nearly the same intake, but your downspout tubing is a great idea

Thanks! I’d love to see what you end up with

I did this to a CUCV with the 6.2. These never had any sort of intake tube at all unfortunately. I also turned the fuel screw up a 1/4 turn. I can keep up with traffic now.
@froggey5689 Жыл бұрын
It actually made a difference? Where is it sucking air from now? As you mentioned this isn’t on the CUCVs at all.
@rangerismine Жыл бұрын
@@froggey5689 CUCV is just a military squarebody Chevy. Everything is the same. It pulls air through a hole in the core support.

Thank you for the idea. Just finished up doing this to my rig. Only difference is a wrapped mine in some aluminum tape. The engine bay would get so hot that it would start heating up the engine to where it would complain. But I also didn't have that original hose that goes from the baffle to the front clip. So it was just breathing its own hot air. Should hopefully make a difference.

Thats a pretty cool mod on the cheap....awesome!

I'm going to try this just because the original resonator and cold air intake tube was removed from mine by the previous owner. Engine's loud AF on the highway even with overdrive. The exhaust leak isn't helping but that's fixable too. That said I think I'm missing that black plastic piece near the battery that you tie into as well. f%$#.

Sooo, 5 years later, is it still working??

Ask @autocar87 he owns the truck now

What kind of improvement in fuel economy and performance have you observed? Also, how's the noise factor without the Helmholtz resonator?
@SteveMoitozo24 жыл бұрын
Mileage improved over so slightly, roughly 1 mpg. Sound did increase mildly, but the tone is slightly lower; not unpleasant.
@scottdelaney984 жыл бұрын
@@SteveMoitozo2 thanks man. I'm thinking of using an offset stud (to center the air cleaner stud) to be able to use a universal air cleaner assembly and really open it up and see what happens with 360 degree airflow.

I’d love to hear how it works for you

What the giant black thing on the old intake mine has it to. What’s its purpose
@SteveMoitozo26 жыл бұрын
It functions as a muffler to quiet the intake. But it restricts air flow.
@lanetanzey50316 жыл бұрын
Steve Moitozo well taking that shit of then
@Wingnut3534 жыл бұрын
It's called a resonator... cancels out the intake drone, which is why its louder without it.
@jordanparker8826 жыл бұрын
Have you had any sort of issues with it pulling stuff into the intake? I was thinking of doing this on mine but i heard that it can pull all sorts of things into it.
@SteveMoitozo26 жыл бұрын
No issues at all. I plugged my upgraded intake tube into the stock plastic hole in the firewall, which is acts like a trap in a drain. Of course I’m still running a filter as well.
@jordanparker8826 жыл бұрын
Steve Moitozo awesome was just wanting to double check before trying it out. Will try and build one and see how it goes. Thank you for the video.

I've been running mind wide open, you think it would run better if I put this flex hose on it?
@SteveMoitozo24 жыл бұрын
Not sure.

Did you cover it in insulation tape? So it doesn't melt or is it fine
