I bought 2 of these toilets in a renovation and had them installed a year ago already ghost flushing. I will try this fix and thank you! Too bad American Standard will not do anything about this

Great idea. I like the old school powerful swirling flush toilets so much better than what is being manufactured these days.

I purchased two American Standard Champion toilets about five years ago and both have caused me nothing but grief. Research has certainly revealed that countless customers have experienced the same problem with these toilets. When I noticed my water bill escalating each month, I began calling plumbers. All of them tell me it’s my toilets, but none of them seem to have a remedy. I called American standard last week and they sent me out replacement rings and fill valves. I installed the new parts yesterday. Last night I heard the infamous ghost flush. I was about to call American Standard this morning and ran across your video. I think I’m going to try your idea and see how it works. By the time I add up the price of my two toilets, water bills for the last five years, plumber bills, and all the anxiety this has caused, I think American standard should be be doing more for their customers by way of refunds. Thanks for posting this video. Wish me luck!

Thank you for this one. I could not understand what was happening when I heard my Champion “ghost flushing.” I found other indications of leakage, and it caused me to pull the toilet up. Fortunately, it was not leaking, but now I fully understand what’s happening. Peace of mind restored, washers are a great solution!

So is the problem that the top part is not heavy enough or is it that the gasket is not made good enough and develops bubbles letting the water go through?

I've had my American Standard toilet for about 10 years and only reccently started having a ghost flushing issue with it. I replace the flap valve gasket and still have the same problem. Today I'm getting some brass washer and going to try your fix. I will let you know how it works.

Thank you so much! We absolutely hate this stupid new toilet, and when it started ghost flushing, my head almost exploded. (The flush doesn’t swirl to clean the bowl, so often end up flushing twice, so there’s another actual waste of water.😡) I haven’t bought my washers yet, but I can tell this is going to solve my problem! If it weren’t for the fact that this toilet is installed in an extra bath that won’t get much use, I would yank it out and blow it up.

Has your fix continued to work? I’m at the point if replacing the gaskets on my toilet every month. No excuse whatsoever for these toilets to all have this issue.

Yes- i agree American Standard should be doing MUCH more. They are knowingly manufacturing defective toilets...then charging more for the "fix it" parts, once the warranty expires. Clearly, this is not right. I hope the washer trick works for you all. All I can tell you is that I will never buy or recommrnd an American Standard toilet again. Someone

Dave, the weight of the water pushes it down. It's a flawed design, put it out front for the junk man
