Nice! Best stand. I wish I saw this sooner. I just made a bike stand for my road and mtb with 2x4s. Going to save this video.

Great idea! A tip for inside corners when working with pvc: drill a 7/16" hole centered in the corner you have marked before you cut with the saw. Then cut just to the edge of the hole. This way, you leave a radius as the corner instead of a sharp 90 degree. The sharp 90 is a built in fracture point and will fail sooner than an inside radius will. Over time, the plastic flexes and becomes brittle. It is not a matter of if, but when. Thanks for sharing.

Definitely a sharp idea!! Cost effectiveness does get a bit "gray" if one doesn't have those tools, but for those that are curious - Harbor Freight, all day long!! I suspect (correct me if I'm wrong) in colder environments (winter in MN) if the bikes are stored for a period of time, the tires will 'soften' and possibly lose the connection with the PVC?
@PennyPinchingCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, if the tire pressure fluctuates too much it can cause the tire to be a little more loose. I have experienced that but the bike still didn’t fall over!

great idea. Have you tried just cutting the pvc "wings" at a slight angle so the opening is narrowest at the front and deeper at the back instead of going through the heat gun step?
@PennyPinchingCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No I haven’t tried that. In theory that should work...I’ll have to give it a try
@Stormsteed3 жыл бұрын
For what it’s worth, by heating and bending the PVC, the bracket gains some inherent springiness that is helpful when installing the bike tire in the bracket. I don’t think you’ll have that effect by cutting the PVC at an angle, and you’ll lose the clearance against the wall where the bracket momentarily expands when it is receiving the tire.

Nice one, I am so glad I stumbled upon your video. It is a great idea with little cost involved. I've got a 4" fat tyre e-Bike, quite heavy, and I want to have the bike standing vertically against the wall. I probably need a thicker pipe or possibly a PVC Gutter, but I am sure I can replicate what you did. Worth a try. I was thinking I would add a further stopper at the bottom to ensure the back wheel doesn't roll away from the wall.
@PennyPinchingCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Ya, I think you would need a larger PVC pipe, but in theory it should still work for you. Good luck!

You said an inch above the center line of the rear tire, but you're mounting the road bike example vertically by it's front tire. Is this also 1” above center?
@PennyPinchingCyclist3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, sorry I didn’t include that in the video. For the road bike I mounted it right where the tire made contact with the wall. I just set the bike up and used a pen to mark where the tire made contact and mounted it there.

Better to use a hook on the rims. Finished many a ride only to find a tyre deflated in the morning due to a slow puncture. Better to be safe than sorry.
@PennyPinchingCyclist3 жыл бұрын
I was curious about that as well so I deflated my tire while it was in the holder and it didn’t fall over. Definitely wasn’t as supported as it is with an inflated tire, but it brought some peace knowing it wouldn’t completely fall over!
@Macm733 жыл бұрын
@@PennyPinchingCyclist was it a mountain bike tyre. Wouldn't be so confident with a 25mm road bike tyre. Not dissing the holder, but as someone who has a melt down if my bikes get a scratch so the mere thought finding my bike in a heap on the garage floor is something I just can't contemplate. 😉👍 .
